As someone who graduated college a couple years back, here are some tips that I hope makes your life easier:
+Lower your expectations of yourself. Try your best and expect failure. It's ok. I was straight A student in hs, but I still failed like 3 classes in college. It's tough to learn hard subjects in, well I had 10 weeks. And there is just so much going on.
+If the class is too hard, drop it and take it during summer session. Class size will be smaller and you can go to office hours to get help.
+Try to study and review during daytime if you can, especially between classes. Consolidate and highlight important stuff. Then in the evening, hang out with friends and review before bed.
+Just aim to pass the class. Making friends and networking is also important. People only ask if I have a degree, they don't ask if I passed history with an A or C lol. But if you are aiming for masters, then take care of your GPA.
+Even if you aren't a party person(I don't even drink), go to a party. Experience the nightlife. Dont get addicted though.
+Don't get addicted to games. Don't play MMOs.
+Try not to skip class, unless you have a friend who is also a good note taker.
+Rent your textbooks. Don't buy. If it's not available for rent, they should be in your college libs.
+Try to step outside your comfort zone. I was such a shy kid but I have solid friends for life and I did so many things I never thought I would do.
+And lastly, talk to people. Whoever sitting next to you on class. People in the college shops, your TAs, professors and dont forget your counselor. My counselor was so nice, she let me know that I could literally skip a class that would cost me another quarter. Dont be afraid to share your worry or fear because a lot of people are going thru the same thing and it's nice to know you're not alone(and if you feel lonely, you can easily get unmotivated and sad). I used to straight up to go my study group and be like "Yo imma fail this if I dont understand this" and some people used to be like "same lol ok let's figure it out". This also includes your parents. I have strict asian parents but I was very honest and they became less strict because I was just so mentally drained and they could see it.
This was nice advice from a first year college student I really needed to hear this :D
God thank you, I really needed this! I’ve only started 3 weeks ago and the amount of things I have to get done in a short amount of time is insane. Today I cried thinking that the problem was me for not being able to keep up so it’s nice to know that it isn’t only me and that it’s expected.

Thanks for the advise, I just started university in the UK and I’m learning Japanese, I’ve made friends with my flat mates but need to make friends on my course and outside university. I’m so stressed and a bit lonely

as a nursing student, lemme add onto the advice im seeing:
-if you can, learn how to organize and manage your time well early on. even if youre just taking mild pre reqs or gen eds, schedule, schedule, schedule. itll help you in the long run when things get harder in upper division classes/if you decide to continue school past four years.
-sleep. i know we all joke about sleep being unavailable for students but, trust me, if you want to even be present in ur 8 ams or 1 pms, you need sleep. sleep>>> better than speed reviewing for your exams (been there, regretted that)
-cry. academic stress is gonna happen. doesnt matter if youre doing nursing or stem or art or ur still undecided. college isnt high school; its okay to cry bc youre overwhelmed. cry, talk to someone and, if its really serious, look for help. im asian w/ asian parents and ive realized id rather cry in front of them than bottle it up and suffer by myself.
-make time to spend with friends. even if its just one friend, do it. i have friends who now understand my obligations w/ nursing so i dont see them often and its like. 3-4 people. you dont have to befriend your entire campus. just dont forget to take some numbers from people you find pleasant to be around.
-keep in touch w/ professors, TAs, anyone who has a higher education lvl than you. hell, they couldve been a college dropout and they might still be great to keep in contact w/. why? bc thats how you get recommendations, contacts, and people who may save you steps in job finding in the future. use every advantage you have cuz im sure ur peers are doing the same.
-lastly: dont punish yourself. go eat a good meal after your exam. go to that event you scheduled after your exam that you thought youd do well on. i know some of us probably think punishing ourselves for self discipline reinforces rigidity but in reality its probably more harmful than good. reflecting does not equal punishment. you can change your mistakes/behaviors w/o making yourself miserable.

@Webtoon Overload 1. Find your syllabus and make a schedule of all the readings you have to do for your first semester classes and any projects/tests coming up
2. Read some chapters before your semester starts. The material isn't hard but I can be overwhelming if you don't prepare in advance
3. Focus on understanding, not memorization. If you try to make yourself memorize everything you won't do well on exams. Understand the basics and then add info when you're comfortable with the standard.
4. Study consistently. It sucks but unless you're some sort of prodigy, don't expect to see any friends/family for anything unless it's an emergency.

i remember my first day going to college...it was a mess.. i didn't know anyone..i had no clue about how to do anything..and it took me a while (a year) to even be familiar with other students..it wasn't a smooth start but now I'm in my last year..things really developed..and i discovered that many many other students have gone through the same process so it just takes time and a little bit of stepping out of your comfort zone

its funny how this particular video just got into my recommandations when i just had my first day of junior year, in a new high school, where i knew absolutely no one, i was embarassed for the whole day, whenever i tried to talk to someone they would not continue the conversation and i arrived late at almost all my classes, because i didnt know WHERE WERE THE CLASSROOMS. i couldnt go to the cafeteria as well cuz i couldnt buy my meal with the machine that day cuz i had to get my time table. it was a BAD first fay ngl, hated it and i got so tired that i slept right when i went back home.
