As a librarian myself, I love when people promote local libraries. Every local library is so much more than just books. They’re creative spaces, safe spaces, and spaces full of wonder and joy.
Thank you for supporting your local library! As a library worker I can tell you that even if you just come in and browse you're helping us. That door count means a lot! Don't forget about Interlibrary Loan if you want some more choices.
Keep doing what you're doing Nick. I LOVE the style of your videos. No plingy plonky music. No setting up a camera randomly on the other side of a cafe to film you reading. No sponsors. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with those kinds of videos. But they have been done to death; so many out there. I love your raw, genuine style. Pretty sure I've re-watched all your videos about 3 times now!
Libraries are sick! I love a library haul. I always go to my local library and browse the “new arrivals” section, then wander the shelves. I love to take a risk on something I’ve never heard of before, if I like it, I have a new favorite, and if I don’t, it costs me nothing but whatever time I spent. Can’t wait to see more of your library hauls!
I generally don’t re-read fiction so I rarely buy them. The library, Hoopla, and Libby are my free book places that I look to first. Thanks for the amazing tour!
I got library envy watching this 😅 Libraries have transformed my life (became a Libby power user in 2020) and I'm subscribing to see your future hauls. Thanks for sharing!
As a fellow person who is also needing to stop spending money, the library has kind of turned from a good alternative to buying books into my holy grail for books. Would love to see you visit some more libraries and do some hauls!
I have a small book budget but a large library “budget.” Great to see libraries being promoted here on your channel. I’ve read a couple of books by Fredrik Backman and loved them both. I’ll have to check out Bear Town. Thanks for another great video!
I laughed so much when you turned that book and said that that book would take you to "the end" to read. That library is beautiful, ours is more bland utilitarian. Great vid.
Yaaaaay, I eschew books haul videos but will always be here for library hauls!! Your life is about to be forever altered by the library. My local library plays a large part of my life.
Ahhh yes, libraries 🤔….borrowing books…...returning them 😳. Well, as a bookaholic I MUST own the books, but luckily my library has a wonderful used book store inside 😚📚.
Oh yes! I love the used bookstores in libraries! There are a few where I live, the prices range from (and I'm putting all the prices together): 10 cents to $5!
How ironic ... I went to the Library earlier today and then I turn on the computer and see this ..... Love it ...Last week I picked up "small things like these" and another from a new author, read them and went back this morning to return them, picked up "Foster" by Claire Keegan and "Spring Girls" ... Spring Girls is by Karen Katchur (A new author for me) . I read Cold Woods by Katchur last week. I was not familiar with her until I discovered her during my visit to the library.
Libraries are the best and I'm lucky that my city has excellent provision. I often borrow double what I'm able to read so I have options, but also so that the records show the books have interest (which helps library funding) and also so the authors get their (tiny) royalties.
I love the library. I have been going to my local library for over 20 years. I love it there. I would recommend making an online profile so you can put books on order on hold. That's how I read new releases!
Hey man, Just wanted to give you a shout out. Been following along since like week 2 or 3, and I really love it. I've been a lifelong library supporter, and your 'window shopping' method of book finding resonates with me haha. Also, I'm about to get into the bear town series thanks to you, and it's available at my local library. Cheers!
I really enjoy my local library. Its half the size of one of the floors at Hamilton. Keep showing your libraries because the variety of books you show can be vast without spending a penny. The last couple of years in the states is very difficult for many people to buy things just because they want them so libraries are getting popular again.
Libraries are the best! When my wife borrows books from the library, she calls it stealing from the library just to keep it funny and interesting. Loved seeing this video!
I can't believe you live in the Hammer. I love the central library. I've been changing careers and I've been reading my new textbooks there b/c I can't do it at home. I do love a good thrift store. Value Village has a huge used book section. Also, when i lived in Verdun Montreal the used books section of The Renaissance was amazing. I still can't believe I got Asymmetry for $1. I love your channel. Please keep going.
Libraries are the absolute best. It is the foundation of a community. I go to libraries for the same reason you do : I buy too many books! And I live in a studio apartment!
Hello! I’m a new subscriber and I LOVE your channel! Backman is one of my favorite current authors - he is SO good!!! Also, the Spears book felt like the McCurdy book to me - loved it but sad at times. I’m on the board of trustees for my local library and I love seeing people promote the libraries in their area! I buy a lot of books but also try supporting the libraries as well. Keep up the great work on the channel…love it!!! And don’t feel bad about asking people to like or subscribe…all TH-camrs do it :)
They have a hidden gem section? That's awesome. Also Mitch Albom is amazing! The five people you meet in heaven is my favorite book of all time. You will have to do a recap/review once you get through these!
You are so fun and we def share the same reading vibe. I have never read Lonesome Dove. Going in for it. Beartown on TBR so I am in. Keep going and never worry about the like and subscribe ... I bet that happens easily for you! Keep the videos coming! On my way to library on the way home. Fave place. You are super refreshing in terms of book tubers!
I've recently been checking out audiobooks from my local library after a hiatus of a few yrs. Have not had great luck w audiobooks in the past but wanted something to do while I knit & do cross stitch.
I live in a small county in Virginia. I have a library card for where I live and the next county over. What I love about the library is you can look up a book on their online system, put it on hold and they'll transfer it to the library you choose. The libraries in the county aren't big but between the two counties I can usually get what I want. I also love going to look for different books and also the library book sales. You can get some nice used books at our libraries. Paperbacks are a $1 and hardbacks are like $2.
I’ve been a big library person my whole life. I have loved it since I was a child. I’ve even requested that my library purchase books they don’t have and they usually buy them. If not I try buying used books.
Folly and Glory is the last book in a 4 book series. McMurtry’s standalone novels are; Cadillac Jack (1982), Anything for Billy (1988), Buffalo Girls (1990), Pretty Boy Floyd (1994), Zeke and Ned (1997), Boon’s Lick (2000), Loop Group (2004), Telegraph Days 2006) and The Last Kind Words Saloon (2014)
You have 22 libraries in your city, how amazing! I had no idea until now that there are 27 libraries in Seattle, where I live, and I've only been to maybe 6 of them. It makes me wonder what cities anywhere in the world have the most libraries or the most bookstores, it's such a happy thing to think about. Just subbed to your channel. I wish you and your family all the best.
Using the library becomes addicting, I'm in them every other day at the moment. But it's also just a fantastic way to get more books read because of the time crunch I find, even though I do occasionally take advantage of the online renewal system 😂 Great video as always!
I get all my books from the library too. And if I love a book, I'll buy myself a copy. I usually have the intention of re-reading them but even if I don't it's still worth it. I decorate with my favorite books because I love that I can get the same feeling I had while reading them when I look at them.
I LOVE a library haul! I've been trying to use my local library system more this year too. They are so great. I'm obsessed with that library. Five floors??!?! that's incredible.
I love your videos, I got back into reading a lot about 5 years ago and rediscovered my local library (tiny!) but it makes a huge difference. Some of the librarians save me books and leave me notes in my pick up of authors they think I would like Can't wait to see what you pick up next x
Loved Britney’s memoir ❤️ - I reflected on it after reading longer than I expected! Her vulnerability while discussing motherhood was so meaningful! Hope you enjoy it!
I love the library tour. I was born and raised in Hamilton so it was nice to see Hamilton Public Library. Really, Good, Actually is better than 3.1 than Goodreads suggests.
Beautiful library, thanks for sharing the tour. You’re very lucky to live in such a big city with so many. My local one isn’t that big but they are very nice there and are always willing to get something from another branch if I can’t find what I want.
22 libraries?! 😭 That library is gigantic! My city only has one library and it's 2 levels. The King books at my library are always checked out and have wait lists.
@@lizc.214 I collect King books, so I own whatever I'll be reading. I've just had coworkers tell me that the library's King books are always on wait/hold lists.
What a library! We have a few libraries in our area and they are building one much closer. They have online book delivery which I take advantage and then there is a book drop off less than 10 mins from my house so I take advantage when I can't make it physically there.
I actually started reading Beartown on your recommendation - my third Backman to date. Anxious People was good, but A Man Called One was definitely the best one in my opinion and I think you'll really like it!
Cool! The Hammer has a nice library system - we have an old Carnagie library here in Ottawa (or maybe more than one) and I wonder if there are any there? They are so quaint and quiet. In my hometown up north the library lends out fishing rods. Libraries are wonderful :)
I just finished The Phlebotomist by Chris Panatier, I think you'd love it!! Best to go in blind I think. Its a sci-fi, thriller sprinkled with super hilarious interaction between the 2 main characters, its a hidden gem for sure. Your library is AWESOME! Er, SICK!
I haven't read The Woman in Me yet, but from what I've heard, it's incredibly enraging, frustrating, and saddening. What was done to her, what she was put through, by her own family... Unimaginable.

A good short book that will change your perspective on people is lord of the flies! I dont know if you have read it but you havnt you definitely should.
I had to look up "The End" It's apparently only 1100 pages. I say "only" because it looks bigger. Maybe uses a large font. It's part of a series by the author called "My Struggle" or in his native Swedish "Min Kamp" (PHRASING!!!!! 😳) Looksl ike it has great reviews on Goodreads.
My local library has the worst parking and most inconvenient hours, so I never really go, but I've got access to 4 different libraries on my Libby app (as a result of moving a bunch), so I can't really complain even I miss being able to wander in and find new things like when I was a kid. However, I did borrow Really Good, Actually without checking reviews and I had to DNF because the narrative voice was just😬

Do you all have Libby (app for e-books & audiobooks) in Canada like here in the US? I rarely go to the library for physical books because I have so many unread books on my shelf to get through, but I have checked out so many e-books for Kindle reading and audiobooks for when I'm driving, cooking, gardening, walking, etc. I think you said in an early video that you were liking using your Kindle. The End is book 6 of Knausgaard’s 6 book auobiographic hexalogy. When you decide to read Knausgaard, you need to read them all because he does a breakdown in The End and it’s spoilery if you miss out on the previous 5. The entire hexalogy is well worth it and I loved it. Strong recommend.

I had to look up "The End"
It's apparently only 1100 pages. I say "only" because it looks bigger. Maybe uses a large font.
It's part of a series by the author called "My Struggle" or in his native Swedish "Min Kamp" (PHRASING!!!!! 😳)
Looksl ike it has great reviews on Goodreads.
My local library has the worst parking and most inconvenient hours, so I never really go, but I've got access to 4 different libraries on my Libby app (as a result of moving a bunch), so I can't really complain even I miss being able to wander in and find new things like when I was a kid. However, I did borrow Really Good, Actually without checking reviews and I had to DNF because the narrative voice was just😬
Did you ever finish High Fidelity? I'm about halfway through it and surprised how true the movie stayed to the book. (which is a very good thing)
What is your good reads account!?
I would use the library if they were closer to me but they are like 30 min away with car.
Oof! That is pretty far, I’d feel the same way.
