A couple of questions here: When you say "levantino", you mean it in relation to Madrid ? Because in relation to Marseille or Genoa Jordi Savall is not a "levantino" at all. Culturally and linguistically Jordi has much more to do with an Occitan or a Ligurian, not with someone from Torrelodones or Cuenca - I mentioned those two for example's sake, no hard feelings against Torrelodones . I'd like to raise a second issue here : the kingdom of Spain as a such did not exist when the Jews where expelled from the Iberian peninsula. The kingdom of Aragon and the kingdom of Castile kept separate legislative, coinage, tax and juduciary independence. May God protect us from the French kings.
Dimitrie Cantemir (b. October 26, 1673 - d. August 21, 1723) was ruler of Moldavia, Romania, twice (March-April 1693 and 1710-1711) and a great scholar of Romanian humanism. Among the various comes out occupations were: encyclopedist, ethnographer, geographer, philosopher, historian, linguist, musicologist and composer.
I was blessed to see Jordi and most of these men perform some of this music in concert. What an amazing experience it was! This video brings it all back to me. Jordi is my musical hero and an international treasure. He does with music what diplomats and their words fail to do-remind us of what we have in common and build upon that premise. Music truly IS the international language!

But hey, listening to Mr Savall means a journey to other places and times!
To all Turkish and Greek participants in this forum. First, claiming that this Ottoman music has nothing to do with Byzantine secular and religious music would be like claiming that modern Rock and R&B music have nothing to do with West/NorthWest African roots and nothing with early Blues and Jazz, respectively. Equally, claiming that this Ottoman music is nothing but Byzantine music would be like claiming that modern Rock and R&B music are nothing but early Blues and Jazz or even nothing but ethnic West African folk music. Both assertions are equally wrong. Ottoman music had its roots in Byzantine and Persian music but has evolved into a music of its own, with very diverse influences from Armenian, Arabic, Turkic, Greek, Sephardic, Rumanian and countless other sources contributing to its development.

This Eurasian music feels like to be in a journey. I see endless steps first, then suddenly a river to carry me through mountains of South Anatolia, arrive at blue of Aegean, see Hellenic ruins, sun setting just passing golden crescent on a dome... I feel so lucky to born in this harmony, hope to explore more and let the unity happen. Greeks and Turks are like two brothers whining at each other, but still brothers.

As pearls eternally suspended in the light ,this lovely gifted lady has left us with the wonderful legacy of her voice. To her ,her husband Jordie & children ,plus their ensemble, we the public collectively wish to express our thanks for the enrichment of our lives.
Jordi Savall is wonderful. Without doubt amongst all the artists and politicians and thinkers and journalists and whoever....... he is the one with the most art and humanity and openness to the good and beautiful in the world. I don't want to offend people's sensibilities but if I had to elect someone to be God , that's who I'd choose.

Romania. Take closer look to this nation. How many nations can pride themselves for giving birth to composers who mastered both the traditions of the west such as Ion Caianus and the traditions of the East such as Dimitrie Cantemir? Very very few. This nation has not only given birth to Ion Caianus and Dimtrie Cantemir, but also to Eugen Doga, Iosif Ivanovici, Theodor Grigoriu, Dimtrie Cuclin, George Enescu, GEorge Stephanescu, Eudard Caudella, Paul Constatinescu, Vladmir Cosma, Mihail Jora etc. Romania is a country of great geniuses.
Jordi Savall is someone who knows what the world needs. UNITY in PEACE.

As pearls eternally suspended in the light ,this lovely gifted lady has left us with the wonderful legacy of her voice. To her ,her husband Jordie & children ,plus their ensemble, we the public collectively wish to express our thanks for the enrichment of our lives.
Brilliant. Thank you very much for this Excellent concert!
Thank you savall. thank you, thank you......
Simply, exquisite. Thank you so much for spreading beauty and sharing it!
Maravilloso
Multumim ,Jordi Saval !
Great concert ! The very mystery of music.
Sublime
Excepcional. Muchas gracias por tan magnífico aporte.
Fantástico. Gracias.
Thanks for this in memoriam to Montserrat Figueras, As I just discover her death today, I feel very sad.

Merveilleuse musique. Le kanoun et les ouds sont extraordinaires.
Very interesting. Many of us do not get a chance to hear this and hear the artist's concept!
Very grateful to you for making this wonderful concert available.
Great musician! Music is a universal language, it belongs to mankind !
I'm afraid Iam having trouble. All my videos won't translate from Spanish to English. Anyhow I recommend this beautiful music and all Jordi Savalle productions
Dimitrie cantemir was raised by the Ottoman Empire, not romania
