Hi mate I just wanted to say congratulations on the success of your channel, I am from Australia and I have never played isometric rpg's or crpg's but because of your videos and mortismal gaming's videos I have become interested in them and went on a bit of a buying spree and now I have about 6 different ones that I am waiting to play once I have enough free time to really get into them. I just find your videos entertaining, I think it's because I can feel your genuine enthusiasm of these games. I think it's great that me in Australia can sit and enjoy something that someone from the other side of world has made. I hope that your channel keeps growing and that you are able to make enough money to support yourself and hopefully buy a house. Now that I have a PC, I'll have to go back and rewatch every episode of this and make a list... Unless you want to make a "best of" video
I think the easiest method is to check out that 5 hour video. You have time stamps for all games covered, if you wanna go quickly through them. You don't have to watch the whole thing.
The best would always be number "1" I guess, but there are certainly more games in those lists that are worth playing. I'll probably do a "best of" kind of video in the near future.

29:50 - this is one of the most mind-boggling mechanics to me. I was weirded out at it when I encountered it first in Horizon Zero Dawn. Crafting ammunition and consumables is all fine and good, if it encourages some form of preparation, but what in hell is the point of giving the player a very limited ammo capacity, and then giving them the option to craft ammo mid-shootout?
It'd make much more sense to give the player a much larger ammo cap, but restrict crafting to specific places (i.e: while resting at a campfire or something) or at least out-of-combat.
This channel is a GEM... Amazing content and critical analysis on games.

Hey man if you see this, I just wanted to say your videos are great. I know it takes a lot of time and effort to make the videos. So I thought I'd say thank you. I just recently discovered your channel and I really like how you don't just shit on old games because of the graphics. I've never cared about graphics that much I always cared more about gameplay and what you can actually do in the game. So many people miss out on great games because they care so much about graphics. I'm not saying people can't point out bad graphics, but some people won't even try old games because of graphics. I think that's dumb.
I always enjoy these type of videos. Always seeing new and interesting things I had missed out on back in the day because I never had much of a gaming PC. I hope this series has many more episodes to come. Cheers.

30:45 Blacktail gives you multiple passive healing abilites in the skill tree, just do side missions and explore for skill pages.

I built a high end pc this year but instead of playing latest AAA games I find myself attracted to these type of games. Also, fellow gothic enthusiast here.
Me too, I like to see what smaller teams with lower budgets and/ or older technology were able to create, it's far more impressive sometimes than big AAA games.

Can't believe you covered ReCore! I really enjoy it. It was an Xbox One launch title I think. Yes it's repetitive and quite simplistic, but it's not overly long. I like it, except the final boss, the final boss can go screw itself :P
Not a launch title for the One, but a flagship for the Microsoft Play Anywhere feature. I bought this game specifically to try the feature out, and ended up really liking it. Has a lot of charm that's missing from a lot of gaming these days.
Eternity has such a strong 'mid 2000s movie based game' energy it's crazy. I feel like I may have played it before even though this is my first time hearing of it.
As someone that completly love that kind of rpg games, your videos are a masterpiece because i keep searching the entire web for hidden rpgs like that. Some are nice, some are very broken, but yeah, i do like them all.
And one thing i can tell you, don't always trust reviews writen on those websites. I know critics usually try to analyse everything, but usually you might find something to enjoy in each game.
Call for heroes looks pretty good. Reminds me of the die by the sword and rune era. Also dude have you ever played drakan with the girl that rides a dragon? That game was great. Oldddd but gooood

OH MAN! I really, REALLY LOVE Archangel! I remember those times (and you probably also remember) where in Serbia police really started to crack down on bootleg street DVD/CD movie and game merchants. I remember seeing the cover of the game and the guy was selling it for like 150 din and I bought, it but unfortunately the game that I got was some really awful X-com game with characters that were made from like 5 poligons. I'm pretty sure it was someone's learning project. Fast forward couple of years later and I actually managed to find the original game in those sections in computer part stores I think it was in Plato.
At first I hated the game the first chapter is really annoying but as soon as I entered the underground dungeon something changed, like you said the atmosphere is amazing, I especially love that old citadel at the end of the first chapter where you have to fight that warrior monk who spawns his clones. And I really didn't expect to be transported to the future in the second chapter. I think that chapter is the highlight of the game, you start to get better spells and also I found the gunplay to be fun even thou it's unbalanced. Also there are some spells I thing it's the shield one that makes you immune to certain guns. And The warrior form is REALLY BAD, it's even worse than using some weapons. But Ghost form is amazing, you also become immune (the game actually lies to you when you get to chose the form) and you also do aoe dmg so it's great when you get swarmed by enemies. Also you are automatically treated as sneaking so you can one shot some enemies even if you aggro them which is really stupid but it pretty much shows how the Ghost form is infinitely superior to the Warrior one.
I also love the third chapter, I thing that chapter really nails the atmosphere of the place you are, in the story, it's really unnerving and everything is bleak and desperate, they really out did themselves, I really cant remember many games where the purgatory looks as fitting as it's portrayed here.
Archangel is the game where i said enough is enough. I lost the track of time so much that i only realized how much when my mother came home from her work (nigh shifts, bakery) and it was like 5 am and i was like no more. This is insane. Never ever did i stay up that long no matter how good the game was. I just realize that i cant be this addicted need change. I did. And im glad :).

Love this series so far. This is a great way to find RPGs that we all might have missed. There’s a series I haven’t seen you mention yet (unless I missed a video) that I’m not sure if you’ve heard of/played that’s called Drakan. I haven’t played the first one, but the second one called Drakan The Ancient Gates on PS2 was a really fun rpg style game. I would love to hear your thoughts on those games if you check them out.
Actually, Metropolis weren't the first to hire Cockle. Particle Systems did first for the space sim "Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos". He was the voice of Cal Johnson, the main character.

God, I remember Call of Heroes. My country's biggest gaming magazine at the time had an infamously hilarious and savage writer on their team and they'd always get him to review crappy lesser known games, and I can still remember some of the roasts from the review of this one. Him and that magazine in general is why a lot of the forgotten obscure games you review on this channel are actually quite familiar to me :D

Have you ever tried Drakan: Order of the Flame? It's an action RPG about killing orcs in kilts and riding a snarky dragon, and if it wasn't for a few youtube gameplay videos I would be convinced it was a childhood fever dream.

I recommend trying out Siege of Avalon (2000) and Inquisitor (2009).
I've had my eye on Blacktail for a while and finally bought it on sale just a couple weeks ago. Haven't played it yet though.
O really enjoyed record and Blacktail is in my immense backlog - I must get round to it this year!
The narrator voice from Blacktail reminded me of Megaera from Hades, so I went and checked and it's actually Avalon Penrose!
Guess I gotta get the game now.

The Not-Geralt game looked interesting if not exactly good. It reminded me of Deus Ex, with Geralt. Blacktail looks particularly good, but tbh every game had enough uniqueness to be appealing.
monsters like in "Serious Sam" were in the game "KISS Psycho Circus: The Nightmare Child" 2000. while Serious Sam came out in 2001
the game is based on a comic book KISS Psycho Circus. and is the same arena shooter. although "Painkiller" 2004 is closer to the KISS Psycho Circus, than Serious Sam

If you're looking at newer games, you should check out Ultra Age. It's a short and sweet action game that's also got some focus on weapon switching. Really liked some of the boss fights in that one.
I played a pirated copy of Archangel (2002) a friend of my dad's put on a disc back in the day. I have wanted to try it again as an adult. I never knew its name. I tried Archangel and that was too vague. Thanks for helping me find it. There is something aesthetic about it if I recall.
Eternity Last Unicorn was pretty good. It was a throwback to PS1 games with tank controls and pre-rendered backgrounds.
It was probably too authentic to that era so it inherited the same frustrations of those times.
Otherwise I enjoyed it. Nice art, great fairy tale setting and simple but easy to pick up combat.
I agree 100% with your Recore review. It gets repetitive after 10 hours or so. I never completed it, but it is a pretty cool game in a lot of ways.

"Its not a long game, you can finish it in 10 hours or so" Jeez what is considered long these days. 10 hours is plenty enough, a good experience and then you can move onto other games which there are hundreds.
Maybe you're right. Although my perspective comes from extremely long 50-100+ RPGs that I've been playing my whole life. 😅
@@click4gameplay I know what you mean buddy, but if everygame is like 50+ hours, I myself have a problem where I cant finish anything as new good and interesting games come out every other week. Oh what I would give to be 15 again and have almost unlimited time to play games.

Recore wasn't a particularly bad game, combat wasn't anything fancy but the platforming sections were decent.
Although I bought it using store credit microsoft gave out for the box version of project spark (regardless of how little you actually paid) after that was killed off and cheaper games do tend to be viewed a bit more favourably.

I got Eternity the last unicorn for dirt cheap. Thinking it was from a bundle or something. For next to nothing it's not bad, but yeah...don't spend more that 5$ on it.

I had plans for it, but I got bored of the game, to be honest. It's not bad, it's just ok. It felt like doing Witcher 3 contract quests, but that's the entire game.

Blacktail je stvarno super. I izgleda super i gameplay je poprilicno dobar. Samo sto je malo kratka, i replay value je tanak. Definitvno je vredna da se odigra.
Ako ti se svidja Hard to be a God, ima tu dosta dobrih, slicnih igara poput ovih sto sam pokrio u prolom snimku o Soldak Entertainment-u. Pozz

I used to play some AA games but most are trash. Time is short, so I prefer AAA games like the coming Rise of the Ronin, Dragons Dogma 2 and Stellar Blade. I‘m 100% sure all three will rock!!

I don't remember if you already checked Mistmare but you should if you haven't, remember really enjoying it back in the day.
I wanted to cover Mistmare in the past, but I couldn't get it running. I still haven't gave up though, and I might cover it in the future.
There is supposedly a version that works on abandonware-france. From what it looks like it's the French version but there is a patch that turns all texts in English, I don't know if it helps whatsoever I need to try that.
