I found out of I have a deaf neighbor and over the pandemic with all this extra time I decided to try and learn ASL to make a connection with my neighbor. She has become a good friend of mine but I still have so much to learn. I have really enjoyed and appreciated your videos. The words are useful common ones and you are a good teacher in that you make it easy to understand and provide helpful learning tips and advice. Thank you!
That is so nice that you want to communicate with you neighbor. In my 20's I had a deaf co-worker that no body took the time to learn ASL to at least say "Goodmorning" to her. I'm sure she felt very lonely as I often saw. So I decided to talk to her by writing and we became good friends afterwards. Then she would sign some words and I learned the ASL alphabet that enabled me to spell and ask for correct signs for what I wanted to say. Thus is how I became fluent enough in ASL to talk a storm with her😂. Eventually I was able to translate my supervisers instructions to her😊.

Can you say which hand is which? Sometimes videos it gets flipped. I just want to make sure I’m using the right hand to do things. Or does that not matter?
My local technical community college has asl classes, levels 1-3, I’ve wanted to take them for years and watching your videos has really boosted my confidence!
My younger sister is on the spectrum, after speech therapy for many years as a child she speaks very well. However she hates talking she hates listening even more due to an auditory sensory problem. So she began learning sign language and using asl to communicate with certain peers and our mother. Although her not talking frustrated me, I finally decided to learn some ASL so I can communicate with her when she is overstimulated.
I'm trying to get some basics of ASL because of this ONE lady who shops at the grocery store I work at. I have already learned how to say "Thank you/you're welcome" from her but I think it would make her day if I know stuff like "help" and "how much" :D

Found it really easy to learn (can't imagine how easy would it be if one used it frequently) and also think it's always helpful to know how to community with even more people (now if someone, myself included, needs help, I'll be able to understand it and react better to it)

What’s the difference in the last 2 signs at 3:50? I can’t find the difference in hand motions and I don’t understand how they’re both “depressed” but they’re different emotions. Could it be that one of them is an emotion while the other is more along the lines of “I have depression”?
Are we supposed to mirror you or make sure we use the same hand you did? For example if you’re using your right arm, I’ll see it on my left since you’re facing me. In that case, would I use my right arm too, or should I mirror you and use my left?
I'm confused by the 3rd and 4th signs for "sad." I get the color blue and the first sign for sad, but the next two appear to be the same. What's the difference?
Sounds like he might have an auditory processing disorder or verbal apraxia. Both of those will cause speech delay that doesn't affect signing ability.
Hi there! These videos have really helped! I’m wondering, if you were to sign double letters, in another comment you said people sign one on top of the other or slightly next to it. Could I just sign it in the same space and pull my hand back slightly, and push it back? I believe this is called knocking, so would that be considered yelling? Thanks for all the help!
It tends to vary from person to person and can sometimes be regional, but in our experience most people will slide the letters slightly to the side, although it can sometimes depend on the location of the double letter (middle or end of word/name) or the letter itself (L vs S). "Punching the letter is also done too though, so I would just emulate how others in your local community sign double letters :)
Thank you for explaining the different meanings and signs for each word. I do wish you had maybe shown the signs a bit slower or from other angles- sometimes it gets confusing to know what the differences are between signs and that usually helps me. I know this video is older though 😅

Yes, these are very common signs that are used across the United States, however, there may also be regional signs that are more commonly used in your area
As with many languages, there are variations even within the same country, and sign language is no different. Although most of the signs are the same, you may come across different signs for the same words/concepts in different areas
Yes, there are nearly a dozen different signs for the English word run (ie. running nose, refridgerator is running, a running river, running in a political race, physically running, etc)
@@ChrisGorges 🦅💁🏻♂️Yes, and I also did liked your video, and the information you shared was very helpful too. Its so interesting that common English vocab has different variations to interpret in ASL especially the smaller words. I'll keep this info as one of my references. Thank you for sharing! 😉
I noticed for the word blue there was 2 of almost the same sign for the sad one, only difference was you pulling your middle finger back. I was wondering if that meant anything special or if it was literally just another sign that means the same thing.

It is just my brain or is signing way easier to learn than a spoken language???
For me, learning sign was much easier than learning another spoken language for sure
Yup exactly
There is no auditory element. Listen can be one of the hardest parts of learning a spoken language
It depends on how your brain works. If you are a more visual spatial person or linear spoken person.
Yes

Hello, I don't know if you're still active but if you are, i wanna ask something. I have no background in sign language but been wanting to learn it as i find it very romantic 😅. I am Filipino, and will i be able to understand FSL if i learn ASL first? Or will Filipino Deaf community be able to understand me if im using ASL? thanks!
Do these signs work for illnois?
Yes, these are very common signs that are used across the United States, however, there may also be regional signs that are more commonly used in your area
@@ChrisGorges um im sorry this might sound dumb, but what are regional signs?
@@alexiarenteria8755 I think he means sign variations that are used more often in your area. Region is a synonym for area that you live in.
thank you
this might sound dumb, but you said your from California and I'm from NY are some signs different?
As with many languages, there are variations even within the same country, and sign language is no different. Although most of the signs are the same, you may come across different signs for the same words/concepts in different areas
The video is mirrored right? I hope im right because I've been using my right hand, dominant hand, whenever you sign something
If you're right hand dominant, then yes, you would sign predominantly with your right hand
My sudden urge to master sign language. Lets see how long that lasts
lol
🦅💁🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ What about the sign for "run"? It as well has several meanings behind it as well. I'm just wondering about it
Yes, there are nearly a dozen different signs for the English word run (ie. running nose, refridgerator is running, a running river, running in a political race, physically running, etc)
I was wondering if that meant anything special or if it was literally just another sign that means the same thing.
i couldn't tell any difference. 😅 maybe it's kind of like a dialect thing?
This is Daniel Benjamin long , when is the 2 nt. 10 high frequency words coming ?
This is Daniel Benjamin long, did you know when the 2 frenquency words coming out

Could hurt the ears or shatter glass?
This is Daniel Benjamin long, when is the part 2 of frequency words coming
This is Daniel long , when is the 2 frenquency words part 2 coming out
Whenever I'm trying to sign, I feel like I'm doing very weel, but then I forget all the signs by the end of the video. I tried watching it multiple times but nothing works. Any tips?
Not sure if you’ve already seen this one, but here is a video I did about how you can remember what you learn th-cam.com/video/yW894mRSab4/w-d-xo.html
How should i start learning sign language?
is I say "sad" in asl, Will/can I sign blue?
I appreciate and respect that you put this video together however you shouldn't talk to teach sign
I have to have captions to learn but captions hide your hand motions! Suggestions?
I believe on a desktop or laptop you can move and resize the captions, have you tried watching the video on computer
Do you know any new signs for community
So good
You are awesome
lol, thanks 😀
ik there is a 4th come don't play with me. teach me sir. lmfao
Ik i probably wont get an answer but does anyone know if his videos are mirrored?
I don’t think so
Most of the videos are not but this one is because I used the front facing camera to record
@@ChrisGorges thank you so much!
5:09 i saw him holding back the laugh 💀
Thanks! Just a suggestion... when recording, look at the lens and not the screen. It looks like you're reading off a teleprompter :-)
Thanks for the feedback :)
This video involves a lot of speaking. And if you use gestures, it makes it very confusing because I don’t know if you are signing or just moving your hands.
