it reminds me of the 80s in Zimbabwe still in the grip of independence euphoria and this song a rendition of it played by a congolese band the Real Sounds was an all time favourite of revellers at a place called Seven Miles Hotel now since turned into a pentecostal church. You should have seen those zimbabwean women shake their curvy hips to rhythm with abandon and gusto and the wiggling their waists with equal measure. Good gone old days.

I can see from most people here that it was our fathers that introduced us to this superb music. I for one indeed it was my father in the days of the gramaphone and he would buy these single 45rpm vinyl congolese records religiously. The likes of Franco, Dr Nico, Tabuley, etc. They had a distinct orange label. Every weekend people would gather at our homestead in the village and revel to the music until the battery of the gramophone wore out. We would put it in the sun to recharge it. Kkkkk. Or the record would wear out so much together with the stylus of the player. We would then put a coin usually a Rhodesian penny and stick with sellotape. Tales indeed good times of yesteryear. RIP Franco and all late contemporaries. Enough respect.

I was 18 years when Luambo with TP OK Jazz performed in 1973 at Amaan Stadium, Zanzibar the entrance was free for everybody! As usual in Zanzibar cultural wise is oriental but Luambo music was the exception and stadium was at full capacity at 18hrs waiting for mighty TP OK Jazz entertaining congolese music performance! For the first time I witnessed usage of wireless microphone by Franco Luambo himself performing bolero song B.S.K......we saw Sam Mangwana singing out a lot including then new songs the like of 'Djemelasi, monzo, azda..etc'....not to mention the superb stage show by 'Fwala' mesmerising dancers...namely ...Ekshofu, Tumba..etc it was the historical musical event ever! Courtesy of late Zanzibar President then Maalim Aboud Jumbe Mwinyi! RIP dear!

Congo just needs to reserve some space for Kenyans in their land. Our love for Congolese Rhumba music is unrivaled even though most of us don't understand the language we understand the music. If you take a walk in clubs across Kenya and homes Rhumba music will be highly represented especially during weekends when people are relaxing and having a good time.

Incroyable!

Classic. On my way home from school in the evening, in the 70s. Radios all over the Railway estate in Nairobi, would be playing Franco.

You can't just tell which Franco songs were best . Many of them are so sentimental, so nostalgic.
He was a mystery and a great legend. Songwriter, vocalist, guitarist, mentor etc, all in one. What can one say?
