I did not care for music for most of my life! Music never gave me goosebumps, I never related to a song's lyrics in my teen years. It felt like I was missing something, while everyone else was exploring their emotional horizon with rap or rock or hiphop. For me it was just... background noise! Pleasent, sure, but nothing to be truly moved by. Music wasn't "for me", I concluded. But then I came across the Hamilton musical in december 2015. That completely consumed me! I not only listened to all the songs on repeat, no, I watched background material, I listened to interviews with the writer, director, actors, had goosebumps even when singing the songs myself! Them explaining the power of music in reference to Hamilton's rhyming, storytelling, musical cues opened my eyes/ears to music in general and I'm so grateful for it! It really flipped a switch, like you said. While others found Hamilton because of their love of HipHop and learned about American politics by accident, for me it was the exact reverse! I came as a politics nerd, and left finding a passion for songs. So yeah. Who knew music could be good, huh? Not me.
Great vid mate! As someone who is developing a career in film it’s really interesting to explore why people consume this type of media over others. Even going through the backlog of films on my list has opened my eyes to new ideas and themes.
This was fun to make :) Thanks for watching y'all
