To anyone who Wants to keep the particular plating pattern, when you drop a strand, instead of going over 3 under 3 still, switch to / 3 under 2 on the side you droped the strand, and the plating pattern will continue the exact same
Instead of electrical tape, I would try cloth tape. I used that type to tape up hockey sticks. And on the top of the shaft as you do your wraps twist the tape to create ridges to give your gloves something to hold on to . Would be an interesting alternative. Plus the cloth tape doesn't stretch and is incredibly sticky

Question! I see in his video when he drops strands on the overlay. He does under 3 over 2. My question is what about when you get to 4 strands on each side. Does it then go to an 8 plait style. Under 2 over 2. Or still continue doing under 3 over 1 if that makes sense
Dude you crack me up lol "This is the best vice I've ever had.. it's the only vice I've ever had.. but it works so well!" Great video as well though. Thank you for this tutorial! I love the weight of this whip. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial for a 6 foot whip using the same shot loading method? Would be much appreciated!
Would you consider making a video on what to look for in a whip, how to tell if the whip purchased is a good one and after a months use or so what defects might you find if it is not a well made whip. What to look for in a good whip?
More bellies generally equals a better meet with, you won't run from a reputable dealer that is not made with electrical tape, And likely one that has been waxed. Otherwise, aside from shoddy plating comer you can't really tell much from just looking at pictures of their whips, and everything else is entirely up to personal preference. Personally, I prefer a 7 football whip, or a 3 and a 1/2 foot snake whip, depending on what I'm using it for
For the base layer next to the nail but before you tape it, I've got a bit of a question. The second paracord length of 2 1/2 ft, is it also filled with bbs?
if you drop your ends and change the over under on the side you dropped you can keep the pattern,,,,like under 3 over 2 then you drop one so on one side you are under 3 over 1 on the other side under 3 over 2 till you catch up to the next one to drop off then it is the same on both sides stop using that gd tape and use sinew instead
Have you ever made a whip without gutting the outer belly plating? I made one last night and missed that step by accident. It works, but I can't tell what downfalls it has by being thicker and less flat plating. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to unweave the outer belly and gut, then re-plate.
Have you ever considered using jb weld instead of glue so the nail cant spike through or using a long bolt instead of a nail the paracord can then grip the threads
The pair record will definitely stay attached just fine, unless you are planning on using your whip to Swing around like Tarzan. As far as the different core for the handle, I find that 1/4 inch dowel rod is actually a perfect, as I can then thicken it up with layers of electrical Tape or heat shrink tubing if I decide, but I generally prefer a thinner handle
What is a better alternative to electrical tape if one wanted to be a better whip maker? Do you have an alternate tutorial NOT involving electrical tape?
I'm wanting to do this, but I had one unclear question. For the core you had two strands with bbs and one without. Does the one without bbs still have its inner strands, or have they been removed?
I would say he doesn't have it gutted because it gathers in better with those inner cords inside the paracord they kind of all seat together when you're wrapping it with the tape if you cut it out it doesn't have the depth to hug into the other two beaded strands.
@@rebeccasilveous8898 Not only that I, but it Helps to make the whip throw coils significantly more consistently, As it helps the weight taper more consistently towards the end. The video seemed to cut out early for the order you were pulling the strands to start the overlay. I saw the first few, does it just go in order longest to shortest?
Hey I got a question, can I convert your measurements for this whip to a 6 foot whip and a 9-10 inch nail to make a 6 footer? And what would those measurements be by chance?
I have to get more paracord for the overlay, but for the core I didn’t use paracord at all, or electrical tape. I used a 10ft iPhone charger for each segment of the core, then instead of electrical tape wrapped it with nylon masonry twine, super glueing it every 4 inches or so so it doesn’t come in done. Hoping it will work, seems pretty decent already .
Just for all those who have gone unanswered--- Q: why not electrical tape? A: the adhesive fails easily and eventually it gets dry and will crack and crumble...this will work but will give you less quality for a high durability heirloom quality whip. Q: what should you use instead? A: many people suggest a fabric tape such as hockey tape. Medical tape also works with a good adhesive. Sports tape like KT tape is excellent. I cannot tell you MY secret weapon as i haven't finalized testing but recently have found a far superior product that so far out performs everything mentioned...

For the 4.5' piece of 'normal' cord for the core, you didn't specify if it was gutted or still had the inner strands. Just that there were no BBs.
