In The Loop co-star Peter Capaldi added his own statement: "I was a huge fan of James Gandolfini's. To actually work with him was one of the highlights of my career. He lived up to my expectations in every way."

Pretty sure the joke of the confused look was that of all the insults thrown, calling him English really pissed him off.
The joke is that Gen.Miller didn't understand why Malcom said it -
Miller, like most Americans (hence the portrayal) doesn't know the difference between English and British; so when asked _not_ to call him that, he is confused
*Malcom:* "Don't call me English"
*Miller:* (But... you are English...?)

@@unbearifiedbear1885 I feel like a prominent general would know the difference though (even if he incorrectly called him English to mean British), so I interpreted it the same way as the original comment. But yeah from my experience Scottish people are lumped in with English for some reason (despite the clearly distinct accent), whereas people from Northern Ireland and the Republic alike are both correctly deemed “Irish.” Probably is because of a combination between more Irish immigrants and the fact that Scotland is on the same isle.

Flintstone has the makings of a general, but who probably did questionable things as a marine in the past, maybe in the late Vietnam War and made tough decisions as a colonel in the Gulf War or Somalia.

They would each beat the other on their home turfs. Miller vs Tucker in America, Miller wins 'cause Tucker is out of his element. Miller vs Tucker in the UK, Miller loses.
Miller won in my opinion, the little comeback at the end nowhere near enough to make it honours even. Miller brutalised him until that last bit.

Gandolfini played the confusion about “English” at the end beautifully. The embodiment of American obliviousness to the rest of the world.
I love how he didn't "get" it, and James was such a pro the way he made you understand his confusion with his just facial movement

Try listening to this exchange without watching the video. There is no similarity whatsoever between the voice of "General Miller" and "Tony Soprano". Accent aside, the voices don't even sound the same. A testament to Gandolfini's acting.
Did sound a bit like Kevin Finnerty, though. He was my favorite character, wish they did more with him.
In interviews Gandolfini sounded more like this, less of the whole Joizey thing. Same with younger Tony Sirico. They actually hammed it up more than anyone knew for Sopranos, and it's to their credit that it didn't come off like that.
