      IMHO, not a masterpiece, because it could be marginally improved. Substitute "ending of a" with "final". (But I have no illusion that I could write political comedy anywhere close to the calibre of The Thick of It. I can appreciate, but would not come up with, a line such as "Come the fuck in, or fuck the fuck off!" Priceless...and sadly I have never been on the Power Side of a door where I could get away with using it in earnest.)

      @@JohnPreston888what on earth are you yapping about? How does swapping in "final" supposed to help? "This is the final of a chapter of a very thin book that no one enjoyed reading" isn't even coherent!
      You're absolutely right, you bloody well couldn't write a political comedy on a level of The Thick of It.

      Because she was a normal human being thrust into a position she was not ready for. Contemptable maybe, but she was mostly just a pawn in Malcolm's game, much the same Dan Miller was when he replaced her.
      Liz Truss however isn't a likeable, sympatheic, complex character, but just another rich toff with absolutely no grasp on reality whatsoever.

      it isnt odd at all. If you tried to write Liz Truss as a character, people would criticise you for being unrealisitc. Its amazing that a video published about a prime minister TWO WEEKS AGO is now out of date, but that's the torie's for you. Now we're back on the austerity program that 1) killed thousands and 2) saw the national debt we were told it would cut down go up massively. Satire is dead.

    The hilarity of The Thick Of It is that it’s so much more tame than real life politics today. Could you imagine Malcolm Tucker’s rage at Liz Truss, Or Kwasi Kwarteng, or Suella Braverman, or Nadine Dorries? The “incompetent” characters in the show seem like intellectual giants in comparison to this current government.

    • @MrBobthened

      To be pedantic, Malcolm works for the Labour Party. So we'd actually bee seeing Cal Richards (played by Tom Hollander) reacting to all of this, because he's the Conservative equivalent of Malcolm.

    This is incredible, the editing is seamless. The thick of it was life imitating art, imitating life. Nicola Murray was a far more competent leader than Truss and Nicola didn’t know the difference between left and right. This is fantastic though, please use Malcolm Tuckers rant in the taxi about the PM’s catastrophic erectile dysfunction in the next political takedown, I’m all for this!

      Brilliant observations on a genius edit. A worthy rival to a Hitler Rant vid! My despair at UK politics is only uplifted by the ability of the likes of Armando Iannucci to write stuff like this and Gren Spencer to edit! Thanks all round!

      @ljc1520 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I share your sentiments regarding the political landscape but I don’t think even Armando Iannucci, writing TTOI through a satirical lens, could ever have envisioned his creation becoming less farcical than real life. In bleak times, it’s content like this that allows a cheeky grin amidst the despair!

    • @martycrow
      @martycrow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@ljc1520 He said as much in recent interviews. I dip into Yes, Minister and the like and it feels like a different country. I don't mean the spectrum of race baiting "who is British?" politics of anger, but the "what is British?". I look back with incredulity at the broad consensus, if not confidence, say the Olympics ceremonies, or similar. Messing about in boats used to mean something else once.

      £115,000 per year (linked to inflation) until the day she dies. But Truss associates with people who spend more than £115,000 to heat their second indoor swimming pool.
      People like Rishi Sunak, who increased their net worth by £122M (to £651M) in _one single_ tax year
      That £334,247 per DAY. Truss' annual £115,000 must look rather pathetic next to the nearly TRIPLE that Rishi made EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE YEAR.
      No wonder these people are so hopelessly detached from the lives & lifestyles of 99.9% of the people they supposedly represent in government.

    Brilliantly done…….. still find myself getting angered by the stance that they’ve done a wonderful thing by letting energy bills go up to “ONLY” £2500 from the £1000 they were at the start of the year……. Whilst the energy and oil companies who have said they’re fine with a windfall tax on their unexpected profits rake in billions that they’ve done nothing to earn

    • @adelucas4824
      @adelucas4824 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And it's not even correct. The average bill was 2500, it wasn't "use as much electricity as you want because you won't pay over 2500". Many (very stupid) people believed her and then screamed because their bills were through the roof. "But Liz said I can have all my lights on and every appliance running full blast, and my house lit up so you could see it from space and my bill wouldn't be more than 2500!!"

    Brilliant and at the same time, nostalgic.
    Since the period The Thick of It parodied so well seems from another country, another era.
    You can see why it's creator has declined to do more, when so easily outstripped by real life.
    They went on to do Veep, which I also love, handing over after season 4 though many of the writing team and others still contributed.
    With US politics, that final season in 2018 had to significantly ramp up the crazy for the same reason.
