vr6 is obviously better. these civic guys cant argue jack, the VR6 is a pavement pounder with forged internals and was made to exceed standards and be butter smooth. the honda D or B series that's most likely in the hatch was made to sip gas and rev high. i will say a K, H, or F series would give a 12v VR6 a run for it's money, but that's when i play the 24v r32 card, so hondabros really cant argue. VR6 FOR LIFE!
i own a 2.08v and my brother owns a vr6 i used to own a honda and you may be correct about the D block being not so great but stock for stock the d16y8 i had had more hp then my 2.0 i have now. because of the valves... now you take a type r b block they are stock 189 horses.. the vr stock is 175. the b block has 2 less cylinders and over a liter less intake... i love both manufacturers. it all depends on your build.

Personally I have owned like at least 10 vw's, since the first generation to the latest models, I have bitten hondas even with a 2001 vw golf 2.0 with only 115 HP stock...... not even to mention the GTI 1.8 TURBO 150 HP or the GTI VR6 with 174 hp stock, just imagine if you add things to the vr6.... you can fly literally
i have raced my 97 2.08v against my brothers cammed 98 2.08v against a 99 em1 and the honda was faster. and the type r B block has stock 189 horse power... that is a 4 cylinder 1.8 liter motor. it all depends on your build not the make of the stock block by the end of the day

My eg is a beast and that think is still 100% stock and don't get me started on when I tack my car.. Volkswagens are to look good and cruise .. Hondas are for street racing and track ! I have an 03 gti vr6 with alot of work done and I can smoke damn near anything its put against. I was never a volkswagon guy but after having one and putting alot of time and money into it I'm overly impressed hell it eats muscle cars for breakfast. Which would you rather have a beefed up vr6 that is pushing 4ight at 400 ho or a new challenger or something of that nature pushing right over 400. Sadly th vw won that race to but then again it's half the weight. I just wish I had the money to blow on it more often because the vr6 is definetly a hard motor to beat. For the honda to keep up like it did I'm guessing it had some mods because no way in hell would it even touch it otherwise I know that for sure.

VW's VR6 will beat most JDM cars, like these civics all day long, its all about torque and where the HP kicks in (AKA power bands), Honda's don't kick in until 5500 or 6500 RPMs where as the R6 motors get their power ban up way earlier, in the 3200 to 4000 RPM range. Arguments generally happen when kids by these cars and watch more media than they read.

If it’s just a drop in chip you ordered most Cam tunes are simply a higher fuel ratio nothing special, Special is a custom chip specifically coded for your car only. These VR’s with all the bells and whistles and a Fat wallet barely eclipse 200whp recorded. Now if you said your 2001 VR motor makes 239hp not WHP then that’s somewhat more feasible as they started @200bhp but still it would need more then a cam tune, Seriously tho it takes 10 seconds or less to look at a build of any fast VR NA on YouTUBE and see that their shit was more involved then a Cam tune. If you had a R32 which started @240hp then all would’ve been ignored, but you didn’t so suck it move on.
