i just made my first ever wedding cake and tiered cake 2 weeks ago and it was cracking like crazy, what is the cause of that and how do you stop it from happening? it was heartbreaking taking it to the venue while it cracked in the car

My MIL always made the cake sponge the week before and froze them. They thawed perfectly during assembly
Freezing is such a great way to prepare ahead and yes, as long as the cake layers are wrapped properly they will still taste amazing!
Our wedding cake was 3 layers of fruit cake like Christmas cakes it had a horse and carriage and flowers on it

Oh no! Did you use an internal support structure e.g. dowels and cake boards? And was it chilled/frozen/room temperature when you transported it?
@@BritishGirlBakes yea there were 6 dowels in it and it was in the fridge overnight before i transported it

I would never want shortening instead of butter, both for flavor and for health reasons. Who cares if it's not perfectly white?
I love butter too but you'd be surprised! Some couples are much more concerned about how the cake looks than tastes.
