- Hank Green and his brother John started the TH-cam channel 'vlogbrothers' as a personal project in January of 2007. They have since rose to Internet fame and initiated other popular projects like the educational channels Crash Course and SciShow, and the online video conference VidCon.
The brothers now star on multiple TH-cam channels with close to 10 million subscribers in total. In January, Hank was one of three TH-cam creators chosen to interview President Obama after the State of the Union address.

Hank and John's influence continues to expand to this day, which really makes me proud of us Nerdfighters. Scishow is getting a new channel for psychology, Crash Course is getting more courses, and overall, the support keeps getting bigger.

I feel like as someone who went to a sort of subpar country school, Crash Course has been so helpful in allowing me access to the education that many other people would have had in highschool. And for free, no less! Thank you, Green Bros. It genuinely means a lot :)

i live in a country where they teach you so little up to high school and when u get to college specially in science field it gets really super hard i would never and i can't stress this hard enough never have passed without this channel i wish i could just meet him and say thanks man

I think hank would be better as a member of a press office, helping get legislation passed by lobbying the constituents of key legislators.
(I once volunteered for my university’s administration, trying to help them be more transparent. Transparency is surprisingly hard.)

No, no, you missed the reference. In the vlogbrothers community there is a running joke where you say, "Who the eff is Hank?" and then people make up new things for Hank to be. For instance, you could say, "Hank is a robot sent by NASA to explore the surface of Mars" or something along those lines.

Huge fans here. My grandson and I started watching Crash Course when I was home schooling him from 5th grade .. He's in high school now and we still watch Hank. What a great way he has about him, clear, informative and exciting.

I'm sure a lot of people here remember watching them when they first started. I don't think it's a stretch to say they literally changed the way people get educated now. It was a revolution.... revelation? I dunno. Same either way.
I learned more from crashcourse than I ever did in high school ngl.
School also never worked for me, I didn't know I had undiagnosed learning disabilities.

I think this interview should have been a lot longer. He didn't get to talk about how he set up his companies, how he decides who to employ, why he chose to stay in Montana. Or anything about managing his chronic illness which is really important and interesting.

I'm so proud of this guy. I've been watching his videos since I was a freshman in high school and now a sophomore in college I started wondering how did everything start? So this is how I got here and I am very impressed. I admire both even more.

Crash course is not to help students, it covers all the topics in great detail as such I am as a univercity student, enlightened by the vast topics and in-depth analysises with amazing presentations.

Turns out TH-cam isnt such a big help afterall since SciShow and Crash Course is largely funded through things like patreon
+Abe Grimm They are funded through Patreon now, but when they started they were funded by TH-cam for about 2 years. The shows probably would not have existed without TH-cam funding, and I imagine that it is a lot easier to get supporters on Patreon with an established show than with a brand new project.

TH-cam did have good ideas, but it's grown too large. They can't take a risk anymore and mostly just funnel more money into larger channels that are already raking in safe advertising money. It's basically turning into TV.
I suspect Hank and John own part of Patreon. They sold Subbable and they might have gotten stock in patreon rather than just cash.
Hank and John are two of the only influencers I can tolerate, mostly because they're intelligent, nice people who have done something different and great.
