My Dad was on RN Destroyers at the start of WWII and then transferred to a Flower Class Corvette in 1943. The corvettes carried 70 depth charges, but also has anti-submarine "Hedgehog", which are forward firing 178mm shells. They could be used during sonar operation, unlike depth charges. Looks like you were lucky to not be sunk.
Hedgehog was introduced in 1942, I think Wolfpack can only be set to either 39 or 40 currently. Quite something to be aware of in other subsims though when they become available...
i really like how you actually hear the others do stuff in the background. Like Damp furiously working his levers and wheels when diving. Gives it some nice immersive realism, even if the footage is almost only periscope. Not sure even Silent hunter 3 or 4 represented the crews actual actions visually and audibly like that. Of course the decades in between the games might make a difference. Uboat doesn't but the focus of that is a bit different.
Quite incredible they’ve programmed it such that if you talk too loud it could allow the enemy to hear you! I still think damp opening and slamming all the doors made the enemy corvette come around again to depth charge you right before the end
I love submarines and with very few exceptions, i think i've played all the sub sims since silent hunter 1. A pro tip: move ahead of the convoy on the surface, then dive and let them come to you. Do not use ballast tanks to change the depth. Set neutral buoyancy and rise/dive with dive planes.
Totally agree on the tips. Basically just leave the trim tanks as is, just use the negative tank (fill it before diving and blow it once submerged, may be used to get deep quicker when being hunted as well, but the deeper you are, the more air it takes to blow it) and do the rest with diveplanes, unless you're trying to sit dead in the water engines off.
Great job by both boats. About Asdic, if looking from the side it pings in a triangular shape with the point of the triangle from the escort to the wide base. Theoretically you could slip under the cone of the ping if at proper depth and close to the escort. From the top its a similar shape with the point at the bow and the base away from the ship. Its possible to get out of the cone, but very difficult. Once they pass over you they lose contact. Keep in mind with hydrophones if your propeller is pointed at the escort they will detect your engine noise easier. You are correct, it is a cat and mouse with subs and escorts.
Such a fun video, I love Wolfpack an subs in general. Pro tip when the destroyer starts using his Asdic to ping you turn your sub an put him either directly off your bow or stern to give him the least silhouette as possible. when he gets over you get ready to knuckle left or knuckle right to avoid his depth charges. It’s a tense moment in the game! Would love to join you for a session of Wolfpack sometime
Great advices! Also, just firewall it once the pinging stops, add in a depth change while pushing it and get silent immediately after those barrels went up.
Big sorry on spooking the convoy Cap, will be more disciplined next time. Flowers was charging us directly 0 degree angle on bow, went for a submerged aft tube snapshot, but they broke off pursuit right after the fish hit the water. Want to try some coordinated target plots next time, got some ideas.

Loved the video @Grim Reapers! Can't wait for the next video of Wolfpack or DCS man! The Flower-class Corvettes only had a Top Speed of 16 knots (18.4 mph) which is usually that of the Transports as well. The River-class Frigates that were coming out in 1942 did 20 knots (23 mph) or, in the case of those with Turbines, 20.5 knots (23.575 mph). If you wanted an Allied Escort Vessel faster than either of them, then look no further than the American Buckley-class Destroyer Escorts with their Top Speed of 24 knots (27.6 mph), though some ships could do 26-27 Knots (29.9-31.05 mph). The British Royal Navy got 46 of these under Lend-Lease and used them as part of the Captain-class Frigates, along with 32 Ships of the Preceeding Evarts-class Destroyer Escorts. If you guys are even worse with your Luck, you could end up Finding a Hunter-Killer Group with 4 Destroyer Escorts and an Escort Carrier with up to 16 Fighter-Bombers and 12 Multirole Torpedo Bombers like a Bogue-class Escort Carrier which were in 2 Batches (the First having 11 Ships Retained for U.S. Service while the Remaining 11 were transferred to the Royal Navy and all 23 Ships of the Second Batch were Transferred to the Royal Navy as well, all to become known as the Attacker, Ruler (Ameer) and Prince William-class Aircraft Carriers) or 1 of 50 Casablanca-class Escort Carriers. I don't think I need to have you imagine getting Attacked by FM-2 Wildcats, Seafires, TBF/TBM Avengers or Swordfish with Depth Charges, Rockets or Guns. Now, if you're really Luck and Don't encounter any other Ship aside from a Flower or Two, you might have a Smorgasbord of Transport Ships including the Famed Liberty and Victory Ships, The T2 Tankers and even the C1, C2, C3 and possibly even the C4 Type Ships all in one Massive Convoy. Now, Bear in mind that the Royal Navy and the U.S. Navy had two completely different approaches to their Hunter-Killer Groups. The British would have theirs act as a Distant Escort covering the Convoy while the U.S. Navy would patrol the Routes where the Convoys would be Traveling to look for and Sink any U-boats they came across, granted this worked when the Submarine was Surfaced for the Carrier Aircraft or just as the Sub was diving for the Destroyer Escorts.
Just so you know when you guys are yelling and stomping around and slamming doors in the sub while submerged it makes it super easy for the enemy ships to locate you. You need to remain silent and reduce all noise when possible.
Weird thing is the Flower was chasing the other sub already, but immediately switched over when they surfaced. As per debrief, the other team did exactly the same just a moment later and was very successful. Seems like the AI might hunt down the host boat first... wouldn't be the first game that does such things.

This game really shows you what they had to do to destroy merchants. Silent hunter is an arcade game compared to this. I always wondered when I played that game how they actually plotted base courses without updating maps. Well this shows it. Reading out distances and headings one can plot it
SH still has the whole navigation thing taken over by AI (perfectly), you'd just have to take ranges and bearings manually at FR. I've dumped 2-3 torpedoes into SH3/4 tankers or larger merchants as well without sinking them, more often than not. But if you manage to hit the right spot, a single one literally breaks it. Haven't seen those weak spots in WP yet, at least not as pronounced.
Damp, you have my permission to go deeper. You will know your job is done when Cap lets out a giggle and indicates he's "spent" while speaking "British."
Cap you guys have to try to get inside the convoy, get out in front by a few km then get right on there track submerge and destroy the convoy from the inside out, it will be the last place the flower's will look, and if you've got a 2nd sub if there attacking from outside the convoy with a flank ambush they'll probably recieve the flowers attention while no 1 boat can reek havoc!

They definately had a good chance... but they need to alter their tube loadout in the beginning to actually utilize such a rare possibility properly. Take out all the T1 from the rear compartment, they're useless there, T2 only. Front 2 tubes T1, 2 TII, take all T1s that are available and fill the rest with T2s. Try using T2 first, especially on escorts, then finish hit targets off with the T1s.
