The real reason Mario never wears a shirt on scene is because the friction always put it on fire. At first they thought it was cool, but they quickly got fed up of buying shirts over and over again, and all the fireproof stuff was already taken by Rammstein, so they just gave up.

Sorry to kill your joke, but I think you owe Thomas Haake some credit. While the pattern Mario plays isn't easy, it's not the hard part of Bleed. Bleed is incredibly hard because Thomas keeps that shit going for 4 minutes straight, with the polyrythms changing every few bars. A lot of pro drummers can do the starting rythm, but can't hold it for 4 minutes.

I always thought Abe Cunningham and Joey Jordison were the best drummers in terms of timing and quality, but Mario takes the spot. Mans a fucking machine.

ThEre is no such thing as a best drummer. There are so many styles….and drummers. Weckl, Vinnie, Lang, Garstka, Harrison, Bozzio, Copeland, Peart. All major league players. In their own style…
This is my favorite band of all time. I love the fact that they went from death metal to groove to everything in between
It's also worth recognizing that all of the other members have such a good timing with Mario so teamwise they sound more meaty than like 99% of metal bands
In The Forest is such a good song. heavily underrated imo.
I love it! But only the first 4 minutes or so, nothing really happens in the last 3-4 minutes.

MrWhiteguy6 I can understand that,but that song is the definitive proof in Gojira’s discography that Mario can play many styles of drumming (other songs like Yellow Stone,Magma,and Born In Winter display that too,but not to the same extent). The contrast between the really technical and syncopated drumming in the first half and the really laid back and feel oriented drumming in the second half is really great. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Just listen to oroborus for example its one of my Favorite Songs of them guitar-wise and also the drums in it are sick as hell.

I’ve been a drummer on and off for 20 years. Listening to this dudes performance on the new album inspires me so much to keep playing. His creativity and innovation is incredible to see and hear. An amazing, transcendent drummer for sure 🤘🤘💚
Last summer on Brutal Assualt, CZ I catched one of his signed drumsticks. Saw him throw it and jumped in the pit to get it. Might not sound like a big deal to many but to me it meant the world. Mario is by far my favourite drummer of all time, not only is he a technical beast but I just love his live performance.

I went to a festival 3 weeks ago and saw Arch Enemy, Trivium, Gojira, Lamb of God, Slipknot and Slayer final concert in Portugal (2nd last in Europe). Everybody was waiting for Slayer in the last day but Gojira and Lam of God was just BRUTAL!!!!!!

You should check out their albums From Mars to Sirius and The Way of All Flesh. They're some of their best! Though all of their albums are great.
Mario is incredible to watch live, the entire band is something else too. Incredibly talented and nice guys. Had the opportunity to meet them once

Songs like the shooting star silvera, only pain, and lowlands are memorable but as a whole the album doesnt speak.
From Mars To Sirius flows so dam well.
I suggest one day you play magma in its entirety one sit one listen then put on FMTS and see the major difference in album quality
VI7T : I’ve listened to their entire discography and while From Mars To Sirius is a masterpiece,Magma was a breath of fresh air,the songs you’ve mentioned are amazing but I don’t think they’re the only memorable songs.The consistency throughout the album is really good but it’s simply not for everyone I’d say.

I've always thought the ability to double bass really fast was neat but overrated... His technical ability is top notch as well, though.

Abhijeet Rahane He is so constant, it's not funny. At that point, it matters not who's the fastest or who has the flashiest rolls. It's "can you execute it perfectly, night after night". That's what set pros appart. In other words, take a guy like Vinnie Colaiuta. He's probably got a much larger bag of tricks and is often regarded as the best of the best. Would he do a better job at playing Gojira songs live? I don't think so. As good a job, probably. But not objectively better.
