    Bon job sur le cata. A bientôt pour la suite de tes aventures....
    Ciao

    Racing is fun -- just a different kind of fun than cruising. I love both. Well, let's see if I still love it after this weekend's Duwamish Head race in low 40s F and rain likely :-/

    • @alamos8
      @alamos8 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, when surfing, a boat can go above its maximum hull speed even when not planing, because for example you can go at maximum hull speed in the water, but the water itself is also moving in the same direction as the boat, carrying it along, so the GPS will say you are going at max hull speed + wave water speed, to say it simple

    Great drone footage!!! I just discovered your Channel and am looking forward to following you going forward. Congratulations on getting ahead at the start. Impressive! Nice to see a spinnaker flying. That is what I used to do. I loved the foredeck. I have a curiosity question. How come you and your crew are not wearing PFDs? Have you considered what you would do with your spinnaker flying and you have a man overboard situation? That would make a great video by the way. Think about it. In the meantime, all the best from cold and rainy Boston. Jim Andersen, Cat Boat Adventures, Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts

    Hum... The sailing frenchman au pays des cheubs, de la vieille retendue de toutes parts et des "hipsters" so swag sous le chromé de leurs Ray Bann.... Chouette expérience, chouette parenthèse, d'autant plus que le gars se réjouit tout de même de retrouver son modeste compagnon et de jouir de filer cinq noeuds, peinard, sous génois seul et le temps qu'on mettra à rejoindre le prochain mouillage....
    Il a déjà tout compris le "p'tit gars" et on ne peut que lui souhaiter que cela dure le plus longtemps possible....
    Bon vent l'ami, et régale nous encore longtemps de tes expériences à venir!....

    One question: Why during the regatta you use a lot of sun UV protection over your face and nose... But you don't use it when cruising on your boat? (I've seen the same on many people). Just curious about that...
    I would bet the sun is the same, jeje (even you had a dark main sail on the Liquid, so no extra reflection, if reflection was the reason...)

    I only sail dinghies, Lasers, but sailing up wind is far better than downwind. The exhilaration from hiking up wind, pumping the sail, feeling the hum as you cruise over the top of the waves is incredible. Maybe it's different for multi-crewed race sailboats?

      That is a barber hauler for the jib. You can see it if you watch at 0,25x at 4:55 forward. It is there to get the jib closer to centerline when close hauled.

    You're outside of Atlantic hurricane season now but I've always wondered if you have plans if you were to hit a storm or hurricane while out in the ocean in a relatively small boat? No offense, small boats (under 100 feet) are very susceptible to big storms.

    • @TheSailingFrenchman
      @TheSailingFrenchman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Plan is: prepare the boat, batten down hatches, secure everything on deck and below deck, prepare some food, prepare your emergency materials, prepare your storm sails...etc :)

I see a lot of people recommend you start a Patreon, I would advise against it. Patreon would make me feel obligated to produce content and I'd feel pressurised to do so, it would take the fun away for me. You should just list a PayPal so people can make a one off donation to you to thank you for the entertainment if they so choose. Bonne chance Hugo!

    • @eyrthren
      @eyrthren 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@onetwothreefourfive12345 I mean if you're alone you'd always wear a safety vest and I believe that you can attach yourself to the boat? (I'm not sure about this one to be fair) but there's not much you can do. At best you're near a coast and you can swim there or hope a boat finds you but else you and your boat are dead I think.

    • @boerenkoolmetworst
      @boerenkoolmetworst 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@onetwothreefourfive12345 If you're sailing single-handed you wouldn't spike a kite :p but yes, if you fall overboard and you wouldn't be able to alarm others (using devices like EPIRB, AIS MOB, flares etc) then you'd eventually drown (assuming you can't swim to shore). But even if there's crew onboard and someone noticing you going overboard, in bad weather chances are very slim in returning the boat in time and finding you back as it is difficult lower sails quickly and tracking a swimmer. That's why there is a huge focus on safety in the sailing world.
