Justin Menendez Inshore Fishing I’ve done this before in Tampa with my brother a while back except we did anything but a snook trout and redfish was negative 1 point and doa won by like 12, even tho we caught like the same amount of fish, doa is better for selective fishing gulp is Better for numbers. Also I think gulps work a lot better for bottom feeders that rely on scent (duh) but that means more redfish and sadly catfish also out point system was part of the slam is plus 1 point

Back around 2000 or so, I went fishing with my stepdad and some of his friends. They brought jumbo live shrimp, I was throwing a glow white DOA shrimp. I caught stud snook after stud snook. They caught a few cats.
When it was time to wrap it up and head out, my stepdad walked over to me and my tackle box, looked me right in the eye and grabbed all my DOA shrimp lol.
I like the lure challenge, something different we don’t usually see. Keep the diversity coming! 👍🏻

DOA all day. Also that is the best color that you were using. If you can handle working it super slow they absolutely slay flounder.

I’ve used both. I feel like gulp should be the better bail with its scent but I hook way over 50% more fish with DOA lures. They do use real fish meal; THEY’RE MADE IN THE USA TOO; so that might be the difference. Besides that, they’re durable as a Michelin and hold up way better than any other lure. They have the perfect balance of catching fish, lasting and making your fishing trip worth it. Just get the DOA product and you’ll have a better experience guaranteed!
DOA Shrimp is my go-to when nothing is biting. Gulp are a great option as well.
I love Gulp but durability has been an issue, I've been experimenting with more durable plastics and adding procure to them. All n all thought that was a solid/productive day on the water!
Nice comparison. If you add the price you might find the DOA comes off better since it lasts a good long time vs gulp. Add some procure scent and you (I) catch more reliably since the fish hold on a little longer.
I mostly use the same gold flake DOA you used or the glow in dark one. Another thing about the DOA shrimp thats cool is when they get chewed up badly you can just re-hook them thru the tail backwards. If theyre biting the fish dont care.
I agree with you about DOA not having any noticeable scent but on the package it literally says enhanced with scent.
Doa shrimp are enhanced with natural fish oils so they are kind of scented

I use both but I have to say, the only bad about gulp other then a leaking bag lol is the fact that they do attract every fish out there! I have had pin fish tear it apart then 5 min later caught a Spanish Mac. I will have to try and get back on my DOA's this weekend.

Savage Gear 4" and 5" are better than both of those by far. If you put Pro Cure Inshore on them they slay trout redfish Spanish Mackeral and snook. Test it out and show a vid on it😎👍👍
DOA is great to cast in shallow water...fish hit the the thing on the slow way down...one huge fish I lost broke the DOA hook to get off...love it’s motion and look...gulp can be fished nicely like a real shrimp with tradition hook and weight Fishfinder rig
I got both and I never even opened up the gulp packages yet because I just kill them on the DOA there was no reason to do it yet and I'm going to say they're both equally good

i buy the doa bodies and rig them with jig heads 1/8 ounce because they bounce and fall more natural that little change up makes a big difference on fineky big snook give it a try

I’m not going to lie. It kind of looked like you had the gulp shrimp on upside down. Also I’ve never had luck with doa shrimp in Louisiana
Interesting. I have tried and tried the doa shrimp, all colors and sizes over the years, different areas, never got me anything. The gulps have been almost as good as live shrimp, ALWAYS catch fish with them. They don't last very long, but sure worth the tradeoff.

I've always used gulp... recently got some vudu shrimp that seem promising I just have to put down the gulp. I suppose I will get some DOA to try out also.
Try the vudu shrimp some time, different concept but crazy action.
they are good, but don't keep very good in a tackle box in florida.

D.O.A for the win. A kit with 9 bodies,3 hooks and sinkers is $6.00 as opposed to 3 prerigged shrimp pack at the same $6,00. That said.....ive never caught diddly on gulp. I just threw 2 tubs of them in the garbage a few weeks ago.

These videos are great I've learned so much from watching them. I just have one question if you could please explain exactly how you retrieve the DOA shrimp? I just picked up some nice three packs of the pre-rigged ones and want to give them a try oh, I'm just not sure how to retrieve them
Fish em slow, let it sink to the bottom, give your rod about two twitches, then repeat. You have to fish it slow, with you will get a hit on the fall or when it’s still on the bottom. You can fish gulps the same way.

In high school living in port saint Lucie, all I used was DOA shrimp, caught a lot of fish. Usually smaller fish. I think my biggest snook was caught on a rapala that looked like a baby snook, I was trolling lures at the Jupiter spillway in a bass boat lol.

I used to live in PSL but moved to JAX. Water issues frustrated me.
Try a root beer terroreyez for tarpon, works pretty good.

It really does. Secret sauce try the bream color too. Really good for tarpon. We also used to use doa shrimp on the tarpon. When they roll through either right on the boil or a little ahead and let it slow sink with occasional slight twitches. When you feel a soft thump cross his eyeballs.
DOA fished for years. Go for the glo baby
I'm biased (of course, aren't we all?) but I really don't like Gulp because they stink and get that nasty greasey smell all over my hands which, for me, defeats one of the big reasons why I use artificials: avoiding the mess and hassle of live bait.
Actually, using live shrimp is LESS messy than Gulp so I'd rather just do that. Also, Gulp dry out and become useless if you leave them out of water for a few hours. DOA and plenty of other artificials don't have this problem.
Again, this is a biased opinion pf course. But in my view, based on my own experience, there are plenty of other artificials besides Gulp that I can do just as well or better

Did you rig the gulp upside down? The hook was coming out of the belly instead of the back. Means is was upside down when being retrieved.
Sometimes when they break you can flip it over and keep using it. The fish dont know if its rigged upside down.

It’s basically all preference man. Yes the more you spin you prolly gonna get a little better stuff, as with anything. But just get what you want. I like a Shimano reel. But penn is been around just as long. I fish with the Sedona and the Sahara spinning reels, and plan to spend a little more next rod purchase. I just purchased my Sahara and a fenwick hmg and I have only fished it one time and I love it. You just gotta find what you like though.

Hum... the only way to have been close to fair would have been to use the same color. I'm sure you know color does matter and some species prefer one color over another. BTW, I'm not a Gulp fan but I would like to see this again with everything as close as possible.

Artificial with no scent = real fishermen with skill
Just dunk some doa shrimp in gulp juice. Or put a little peice of sponge on your jig head with some gulp juice and you have the best of both worlds.

And I watched the video about your boat and I saw you have a minn kota motor and when I went to bass pro today they had the same one but it says it’s a freshwater one and I wanted to ask if I’ll get any problems with it taking it to saltwater
No issues but the screws start to rust after a year
I've been using those for 12 years. Keep them lubed and rinse them off good. for the price vrs a riptide I'll keep using them on my LT25.

Gulp lures are not my fav. They stink, and after a while they REALLY stink. Don't see that they catch more fish, as your contest showed. Also, the smell attracts more junk like ladyfish and catfish
