The prison in Lepoglava is the oldest and the most harshly supervised in Croatia. It holds the five hundred most dangerous criminals in the country - the average sentence is twenty years. Only a few more than two hundred police officers work in the entire prison - they are outnumbered every day. To keep all the situations under control, the officers count the inmates five times a day.
The prison operates on a strict principle: those who behave well get certain liberties. Those who don't play by the rules are punished severely. The prison in Lepoglava is one of the toughest prisons in the world. Criminals range from murderers to drug dealers and gang members.

Croatia is quite safe, your worst fear is traffic. The dogs and cats don't bite.
I like how they have a savings account for them when they get released. This prison is much better than most jails or prisons in the US.
Definitely one of the better prisons I've seen. Strict rules but treated well, the way all prisons should be.

The sad and funny thing is that I just realized. The guards end up spending more time in prison than a lot of the prisoners themselves.
When inmates want to insult them, they tell them we will get out one day, you are here all your life.

If the prison in the Philippines was like this, I think the prisoners there would not even think of trying to escape. The prison in the philippines, each room that is small for 10 beds can fit 100 people. 20% can lie down and 80% sit for 12 hours before they are released for their meals and activities.

What about Madagascar prison. My god that one I think is the absolute worst. They get fed once a day with some sort of root that they mash up and has no nutritional value and prisoners die of malnutrition.
This is not a tough prison,,it's only highly guarded..even eating is good and well spaced cells

The prisoners have a good living condition as compared to my country their food looks good and plenty and cook prisoners looks well behave and well contented with what their doing inside the prison. The guards are really doing a good job in maintaining peace and order. Enjoyed watching your documentary. Just watched another one and it is overcrowding and poor living condition. These prisoners from Croatia are so lucky.Thanks.

Most likely before that TV show was coming to film and interview the prisoners, those prisoners were told what they can say and what they can’t say. Also, most likely those prisoners were working their a$$ to get everything cleaned up and shiny. But once the TV show was gone, everything came back to normal again. If you really want to see the toughest prisons, look into Russian prisons for prisoners who were sentenced to life imprisonment such as “White Swan” “Black Eagle” and other similar prisons in Russia for people who were sentenced for life imprisonment.
Just to mention a few things, there prisoners are not allowed to sit, lay down or anything like that. In other words, once they wake up in the morning, they must make their beds to a similar condition that you can expect in hotels (bedsheets, pillows and blankets must be kept clean and organized. After that, they have their breakfast (which is usually something similar to what you would feed your pigs if you had them), after that they are either allowed to be just standing or walking back and forth in a tiny space (smaller than the average master bathroom in apartments), and they are allowed one hour a day to get outside of their cells to go to a cage just to see some sky and sun.
I love these documentaries for the content but also because the translations are voiceovers and not captions. That way i can listen while I work 😂

These prisoners have it pretty good considering their circumstance. The beds even have an actual mattress. Quality of life seems to be much better compared to any facility I've had the pleasure of being locked up in here in the States.

Why is everyone constantly comparing everything to America?!? we have more people in jail and prison in America than anywhere else in the world. Also taxpayers money pays for every single person in prison, so yeah, I don’t think everybody’s gonna have a luxury bed. We’re already taxed to death. This is a tiny population to compare to America prisons

If this is the harshest prison in the country, then the other prisons must be a VERY pleasant. The amount of stuff they are allowed to have is insane.
When I did my time: No civilian clothing , no naked calendars , no excessive stuff of anything! Just bear minimal! And yes 2 guys in a 1 person cell. One had to sleep on the floor.
It’s not I was in one with 8 cell mates and one was stabbed not sure if he’s survived

U need to remember that they only show good things on camera. Its not that easy. If u behave u are good. But aswell if u come there with domestic violence or rape or anything u would see what would happen its different on camera.

Man they got some real food there. That's crazy. I always compare places I was to places around the country and the world. Alot of times other places were a lot worse but I have seen where a lot of things were better. It's amazing how other countries treat there convicts.

Balkan prisons and jails are much more better and much more comfortable than prisons in the West. You go out on weekends after you do third of your sentence, your family can bring you food weekly, you can buy cigarettes tru canteen ,etc etc. Its a five star hotel compared to the states.

Prisoners rewarded for good behaviour, growth , express, empathy, and regrets is the end goal I believe.
It shows this prison techniques work.
I do believe in punishment, then the prisoner has to work for its rights and respect back. The prisoners need to Work to prove they are changing and want to be a better person. Then the rewards come. Then they have proven they are worthy of being a civilise citizen in society.

I had a couple Croatian friends in university in Hawaii. Never met nicer guys however you knew not to cross them. Mentality is different than us Americans with every Eastern European ive met. Crazy funny and I love crazy funny. Great dudes respect and I love the fact the locals in Hawaii don't mess with Croatians. Seen them back down which is rare. Croatians have crazy eyes

This prison has the prisoners living better than most US prisons. The food is legit, cable TV, real toilets, infinite snacks. Seems too easy to discourage crime, but every prison on earth offers the same thing, no freedom. Watch the Madagascar prison documentary. Now that’s a hard prison. The worst I’ve ever seen.

Its one very old prison, My great grandfather Petar did his time there in 1930s. He was trialed and sentenced just because of harbouring IMARO komitajies in his home. Now i bear his name as a surname Petrovski
