Brendan Wade, the best vocalist to ever come out of Ireland. His voice is incredible. This should have been the most successful irish band of the 80s. The songs are still fresh today
He joined one of my gigs in Wexford last year I think it was, had his pipes and we played till nearly 3vin the morning! An absolute gent and a great musician. I wonder how many of the girls I danced with? 😅
Born in 1980.. got wif of these guys thru my sisters growin up... loved and still listening to them is amazing... brenden ur up there with the bonos of this world's... be proud guys❤
My lovely son died in his sleep a few years ago...no reason why could be found. These words: I can see you but I can't hear you...just moves me so much etc. Indeed a brilliantly played and sang song.
Cracking Band ... The ever classic Mullet with long hair, ( Chris Wadddle) and slip on black shoes with white Dunnes socks, and turned up jeans ( Dingos) oh and a black leather tie, Denim jacket, and when everyone had nothing and wanted nothing !! Which =No anxiety days lol I’d go back in a heartbeat !! 🌈🌴
They supported big country once remember the drummer making eye contact with me and giving me nod of appreciation . Great band should have been bigger .. like big country under appreciated at the time all the synth music was radio ones priority
My favourite song of all time. Never gets old. I was lucky enough to see them many times in my youth and they ALWAYS sounded perfect. Brendan Wade's voice is like silk. Great great band ❤
I never forgave my boyfriend at the time, who blundered off on a drunken evening with his friends and told me next day they’d seen some sort of band called Cry Before Dawn. Without me.
Agree big time, they had that international edge at the time...fab band..way way way ahead of anyone else at the time and the references to Hothouse Flowers has me baffled..they were allright .average..looked good..and were from Dublin.but apart from that average to boring really....but didn't or couldnt hold a candle to CBD....
I was lucky enough to see CBD at the Brighton Top Rank Suite supporting Squeeze in October 1987 and I was blown away, they were absolutely brilliant & Brendan Wade was an awesome front man and the whole band where on top form.
very underrated band. did some great stuff. never knew they were Irish. makes em even better. I'm Scottish, but huge Celtic fan, and love my grandparents home.
I remember working in JVC in East Kilbride only a spotty kid from Dublin. This monster of a man in the stores shouts hey bigman, what's about Aslan. They are still going but would have shared same gigs as CBD saw them both in same gigs and both lead singers were very unique
Agree. When Ireland won Eurovision in 1987 Hothouse Flowers got the gig to do the interval. Had CBD got the gig it could have been so different. At that time there wasn't a lot between them in terms of success.
100% agree they were a one hit wonder ! And Aslan can’t be forgotten in the 80’s. I’d the pleasure of seeing the in Longford, but when the HHF were on I volunteered to do the suppers 😂 it was more entertaining . Aslan and them stood the test of times . They are most likely working in McD’s
excellent debut single. knew the guys pretty well. kind of funny listening to this so many years later in Australia.....I understand the whole "Gone Forever" theme more than I would like to. Oh well...
Amazing song , such talent, love love this song , a true Classic
Just heard an alternative version of this in 2024 and had to go back to replay the wonderful original version why did this band not go global??
love this song
A classic Irish song from the 80s. We're a small country but a mighty one culturally.
Brendan Wade, the best vocalist to ever come out of Ireland. His voice is incredible. This should have been the most successful irish band of the 80s. The songs are still fresh today

We great talent musicians he in Ireland without knowing it , you could put cry before dawn in that.
2023. 37 years old. Just found Cry Before Dawn and I'm obsessed
Saw the guys at Whelan's in Dublin last Friday. Still absolutely brilliant 🥳
Never got the recognition their talent deserved. Wonderful band. Loch Garman abu. 🇮🇪
Heard this song for the first time in probably 15 years the other day... What a class song
Brilliant song and band, I loved them in the 80's. Its an absolute sin they didn't go as far as they should have. They should have become superstars.😢
One of the best bands ever to come out of Ireland, brilliant song....)
Brilliant song, talented band.
How did this band slip through the cracks of worldwide fame and success?
Simply brilliant i can't understand why this didn't get world wide success
AmaZing.. loVe this song..
Shit management, Poor Promotion Tactics..... badly managed which led to them not getting worldwide success !!!
One of the GREATEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN. DISGUSTING THAT IT NEVER MADE IT HIGHER IN THE CHARTS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS OF 1987
Agree 100%
So right. These boys were seriously talented but the dublin biased music media never gave them a chance.
I think it was Gary Davies on Radio One who played this every chance he got. Used to hear it virtually every lunchtime for a few months.
Born in 1980.. got wif of these guys thru my sisters growin up... loved and still listening to them is amazing... brenden ur up there with the bonos of this world's... be proud guys❤

Derek Taylor So sorry to hear that Derek!
@@daradaly3082Thanks.
💔🎶xx
This takes me back to a simpler, better time. How I miss those days back home in Ireland. 18 years gone, now living in Canada. Always loved this song.
+Faves52 theres lots of live videos on youtube from the reunion tour...
Ní social media and we all got on grand looking back they were times to be cherished so glad I experienced life back then
Out of curiosity, are you still in Canada?
@@brianoconnor2623 This just popped up. Yes still in Canada.. 27 years gone now.. :) Time is ticking by!
The greatest ever song by any Irish artist. Absolute quality.
1987.. Cartown house co Leitrim.. Disco.. 'Big up' the 80s in Ireland 🇮🇪
This video reminds me of the 80s parish hall disco. And I mean that with affection
It’s Mullingar County Hall, now the Arts Centre.
Cracking Band ...

If you had been writing for Hot Press, Robert, these guys might have had a chance. Cheers and thanks for giving me a good laugh. Such an epic track.
@@40ny 👍
You forgot about Simon Hart for the slip ons.
Dunnes stores! They had a brilliant one in Tullamore. I wonder if it is still there?
Loved them. Long time ago, but this track still sounds so good
Brendan wade was the lead singer of cry before dawn
Superb song 🎵 👌 👏 ❤
Fantastic irish band i am proud
Great song from 1987
The lead singer has such a powerful and unique voice 👏 😍 👌 🙌
'87 was just a good year for music and movies 🎬 🎞
Brilliant. See them supporting big country at the reading hexagon. Went out and brought the album the next day. Class act. Thank you.
When was that, if you don’t mind me asking. I live in Reading.
They supported big country once remember the drummer making eye contact with me and giving me nod of appreciation . Great band should have been bigger .. like big country under appreciated at the time all the synth music was radio ones priority
1989. Peace in our time tour. Saw them January City Hall in Cork
That is one magnificent song..
an absolute classic.
my dad orginised the production 4 thisv video gr8 band sorely missed
My favourite song of all time. Never gets old. I was lucky enough to see them many times in my youth and they ALWAYS sounded perfect. Brendan Wade's voice is like silk. Great great band ❤
Hon Wexford👏👏 saw them many times and can never believe they didn't make it big
Great band
Brilliant, takes me back listening to Larry Gogan playing this
What you hear and what you see is what you get brilliance talent and showmanship never forgotten
I never forgave my boyfriend at the time, who blundered off on a drunken evening with his friends and told me next day they’d seen some sort of band called Cry Before Dawn.
Without me.
Always liked this song and witness for the world as a teenager .. must go see them
Live .. great vocals.. so strong and clear
Brendan Wade had a great voice
Id forgotten about this till i sorted through my vinls! What a great voice and what a song. I feel the need to share on FB.
Go for it Pam.
Brendan Wade has a great voice
Fantastic song and lyrics love it
Great band, should have had more success
Totally totally agree with that
Agree big time, they had that international edge at the time...fab band..way way way ahead of anyone else at the time and the references to Hothouse Flowers has me baffled..they were allright .average..looked good..and were from Dublin.but apart from that average to boring really....but didn't or couldnt hold a candle to CBD....
Class band. I remember seeing them in the Abbey Hotel in Donegal Town in the 80's, brings back great memories.
That's brilliant to hear Pat.
I was there also...great times Pat, cheers from Termon!
Many's a night I tramped thru the Abbey Hotel listening to CBD, it was the spot to be on a Sunday night...
This song first came out in 1987 What a fabulous band & Brendan's voice superb. They really should have a much more famous band from the 80w.
I was lucky enough to see CBD at the Brighton Top Rank Suite supporting Squeeze in October 1987 and I was blown away, they were absolutely brilliant & Brendan Wade was an awesome front man and the whole band where on top form.
Achill Head Hotel 1988 ..
Great band !
One of the greatists bands in the world end of story timeless song a great injustice that they never hit the big time internationally
Underrated band,Brendan Wade's brilliant voice,, should have made it big time.
Amazing song which sounds just as good today as when it was first released !
very underrated band. did some great stuff. never knew they were Irish. makes em even better.
Just noticed 5y ffs anyway hope this finds you well bigman. Happy Christmas
I love this song reminds me of my teenaged years
classic sound and band thats when music was music
Always thought that was marillion back in 87 🎉. It got massive radio 📻 airplay at the time.
this has to be one of my favourite songs ever. ❤
Such passion in Brendans voice
Mine too @sueod9978
I heard that song in 1990 ❤ this song
One of my very fav songs from the 80s, man, that harmonic lead guitar riff is magnificent.
Isn't it? Goosebumps! 😊🎶
A far superior band to Hot House Flowers who were lauded and given more airplay at the time of this release
Flowers were good but CBB were a lot better
Agree. When Ireland won Eurovision in 1987 Hothouse Flowers got the gig to do the interval. Had CBD got the gig it could have been so different. At that time there wasn't a lot between them in terms of success.
Agree, they weren't fluent Irish speaking cultural snobs so Rte didn't market them. Never could get HHF. Overrated underperformed to what said on tin
But he’d be singing and Irish at a gig ! I’ve my Fainne. I want to hear Irish songs, I’d wait for mass or the next Celice
Simply the perfect pop song ! Nuff said.
A complete Banger...nothing more to be said
Soundtrack to my school days in St Peters in Wexford. Great to see this again.
Absolutely loved Cry Before Dawn!!!
brilliant band saw them in wexford opera house a couple of years ago great night they never lost it
These guys should have made millions (money) very talented band with a singer that had a voice as good and even better than many bands today! FACT....
discovered this song recently...just great tune well writen
ADD to that when he sings your gone forever just breaks my heart.
Even do I'm a dub! The best band to come out of wexford, sorry the country, bren has some voice 🎶
Brilliant song.

The words are so true this band were brilliant
Great song, great band.......should have been bigger....
one more underated irish band, great sound
Great song. Never knew they were Irish. Proper low key immortal classic.
excellent debut single. knew the guys pretty well. kind of funny listening to this so many years later in Australia.....I understand the whole "Gone Forever" theme more than I would like to. Oh well...
YESSS! I was just thinking how apt it seems, for the world in general & for my own life too.. Sending ❤

Classic
Love them great memories 😊
just discovered this band.....very nice indeed...great voice...really nice song
Ireland's answer to Scotland's Big Country!
I thought Big Country was a rhetorical question!
Come on , Big Country had bags of melodies!
@@wgaule Touché
Nice comentary 🤟
They supported Big country in Ireland 1989
The jacket on the lead guitarist is savage.
Great band, We (Ego MineField) supported them in St Julian's hall Mayo back in 1989, they should have made it, a little serious though!
Fab love it ❤
New national anthem
80s gold dust
Remember them play in the newmore hotel in carrickmacross. Brilliant band
So good this band!
Wexfords finest
Great Wexford band.
❤ love cry before dawn xxx

Where was the outside bit at the start filmed?
