Ok so this is really personal but I have to get this off my chest. I cried suddenly while listening to this song today. So beautiful but specially the purity of Lord Rama and Mother Sita’s Union.🙏🏻The last time I cried was at my mothers funeral in January 2015.
You see, i was brought up as a Roman Catholic in Goa (Dad Marathi Hindu, Mom Konkani Catholic). Since my childhood I have been going to church and performing all the rituals of a catholic. But I never felt like I belonged there because of my Hindu surname “Acharya”. All my catholic friends and priests in Goa when they met me would think that I was a Hindu who converted to Catholicism rather than a catholic by birth and I had to explain to them. However when in presence of a Hindu be it a friend or an unknown stranger I always felt at ease when they knew my name. They would immediately accept me just after knowing my name. But I would always tell them that I am a Roman Catholic and the Hindu people get confused as well. So because of this I always felt like I did not belong either as a catholic or a Hindu. In school I got nicknamed “50/50” and “hybrid”because of this. Then as I started studying biological sciences and did my MSc I moved towards Atheism for the same reason and became an Atheist. But I was never satisfied as an atheist and I became nihilistic.
I always loved the morals and teachings of Hindu mythology, but I never publicly said it to my mum, catholic friend circle or family members as I worried they might think I am not a committed catholic and treat me different. So I repressed my Hindu side deep inside.
Fast forward to today, I am 29 years old living in the UK. I was reminiscing on my childhood memories with my Hindu grandfather (father’s father) where he would tell me stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata and so I stumbled on this song. As this line came 0.28 “Shiv Shankar ne jaap kiya tha, do akshar ke naam ka”, I burst out crying like a little kid. All these years of repressing my hindu side just came out and I felt immense peace. Now I know what I must do and I have decided to openly accept my love for Hinduism and never hide it again to anyone. 🙏🏻❤

I cry here in the US every time I listen to it. I have special place for Ram because he was god because of his decisions and was an ideal, something I strive towards.
I haven’t found Bhakti to be emotional like this anywhere else. I studied in a convent school. I have the Bible’s from the time but the stories and the essence of Bhakti in Christianity felt like fear and compulsion , no love for all living beings.
I don’t want to talk bad about other religions but I can’t forget or undo history.
Wherever you take birth, we all are Hindus.

87 version was a different level altogether and very well in depth, details and philosophy. Animated version by Japan is very superficial. But I consider it good as well :)

I was born in India and saw this movie all the time growing up. I left India in 2011 for the US when I was 13..
I visited my home town in delhi for the first time 11 years last month and the vast difference in the 2 places made me feel something. I saw these kids playing in a park smaller than a parking lot and then this song started to play in my head. On the outside I was fine but on the inside I was in tears because I wish I had grown up here. It was the combination of nature and innocence and love that filled the air that I had never felt once in the US. the happiness of the people could be felt in the air... what a great civilization India was and still is and what a great soul Lord Rama is. Thank you dear friend for letting me relive my golden days. Words don't do justice to the feelings that this song has made me feel.
