    I get your point on Mike Wallace getting a pass to qualify when he has not been in a cup car in a decade or full time since before most of us were born. But this guy has been racing for 50+ years and has had a reputable career at plate tracks. I understand it's a new car and everything, but he has raced in 4 different generations of car. He'll be fine

    • @markalbert9011

      I'm 69 years old. I don't know of anyone age 65 who's reactions are half of what they were at 45. He has no business racing in a pack at 190mph. He's not a boxer or ball player. When they try and be young again they only hurt themselves. Wallace can easily take out $10 million dollars worth of cars when he causes the "big one" and maybe hurt someone
      When his inevitable crash happens it will be the first controversy of the season. He shouldn't be racing at superspeedways.

      @@markalbert9011 You may be right, sir. He could very well disappoint and prove he shouldn't be there. But I think it's a little silly to compare his situation to one of a boxer. He isn't taking punches to the face or having to steal home. All I'm saying is that we shouldn't immediately count him out just cause of his age when we haven't seen him in a decade. I think he could very well make the race and even score a top 20.

      @@SammyJackson-e3k "He's not a boxer or ball player. When they try and be young again they only hurt themselves. Wallace can easily take out $10 million dollars worth of cars when he causes the "big one" and maybe hurt someone"
      Where on earth did you get anything other than a boxer or a ball player can only hurt themselves and not other people unlike racing drivers who can easily hurt someone else. How on earth did you extract that I was comparing sports?
      There are very valid reasons to question a 65 year old's physical and mental capabilities Consider the following steps taken to prevent 65 year old's from pursuing something which they were once experts at, but age has made them no longer proficient at.
      ... Military and commercial pilots have to surrender their licenses on their 65'th birthday. They can continue to fly as civilian pilots but like all 65 year old pilots they will be tested regularly.
      ... Commercial ship captains must surrender their licenses for ships over a certain tonnage at 65.
      ... Railroad engineers must retire at 65.
      ... Air traffic controllers must retire at 65.
      ... Bar pilots (those people who sail ships into port) must retire at 65.
      ... No insurance company will issue malpractice policies to Doctors over 65.
      ... Many states have extra requirements for driving licenses after 65. Some require regular behind the wheel tests or like mine more frequent written tests and behind the wheel every five years.
      Plenty of very good reasons to say no to a 65 year old on a superspeedway.

    Mike is going to get a sort of refresher course in a way with Ford and Carl Long. While I don’t expect the team to make it into the race (at least 44 entries according to Mike on his brother Kenny’s TH-cam channel in Kenny’s most recent video) I think he’ll be fine.

    Well, Nascar didn't let 46 Year Old(at the time) Jennifer Cobb run dega in 2020 even know she had multiple Xfinity & Truck starts at Daytona & Dega and was completing in the trucks.
    So I would be surprised if they let 65 Year Old Wallace who hasn't been in a car in 10 years race the 500.
    But this is Nascar. They've never been consistentant on anything. They let Connor Daly, who had no oval Nascar experience, attempt the 500.
    Travis Pastrana hadn't been in a Nascar race in 7 years prior to Nascar letting him attempt the 500.

    I'm 69 years old and don't lie to myself. I'm not 49, not 59 but 69 years old. I quit riding motorcycles after 50 years because I no longer have the reactions necessary to avoid red light running drunks. His reactions are simply not up to driving 190mph in a draft...NO! 65 year old's reactions are! Paul Newman raced at that age and later admitted he was endangering other drivers......... I just hope Mike doesn't take out half the field when he has his "big one" or worse, hurt someone.

      C) He was familiar with the car, Wallace is not
      D) You're actually comparIng Mike Wallace and Bill Elliot in the same sentence? REALLY?? Do you want tot think that comparison over?
      E) Talk to me when your 65, then you'll understand. The loss of reaction time and motor skills is inevitable. His body, my body and ANYONE who is 65, their body is wearing out...PERIOD. No one has any right endangering others trying to prove we're not old.

    • @elgallowayjr
      @elgallowayjr 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ so are you saying it’s easier to drive on a road course then a superspeedway? Also how much more familiar was bill with the cars? Couldn’t be much more than Mike in a gen 7 car… I’m not sure where you are going with your comment but I kind of agreed with you

    • @markalbert9011
      @markalbert9011 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@elgallowayjr It's one hell of a lot harder to avoid multi car wrecks and easier to cause multicar wrecks on a superspeedway, so draw what conclusion you will about that fact. I'm not concerned about which is more difficult, but rather which one his age and reaction times would make others unsafe.
      The 30 year old xfinity car that Bill raced is not that much different than a 40 year old cup car which he competed in. Power difference and all that entails but not radically different. However EVERY SINGLE DRIVER has noted much different the Gen7car is to drive than anything else they've driven in NASCAR.
      Both military and commercial plots must surrender their pilots license at age 65. They can still fly civilian aircraft but are tested regularly. It's almost impossible for Doctors over 65 to practice because they cannot get malpractice insurance. Many states have different driving licensing requirements for those over 65. My state requires a written test every two years instead of five years before age 65.
      Every old person I know sort of resents old age, myself included. But resent it or not you've GOT TO ACCEPT IT! Not a one of us is capable of doing what we did well at 45 when we're 65. I'm not saying don't race, hit the hell out of the short tracks like Kenny Schrader does and take the locals trophies and cash, but stay away from 190MPH tracks were a small error might end someone's career or worse. Whatever his reasons, it just doesn't justify endangering others.
