Wow that was for some reason a really bad ass video. Just all those different rounds showcased the versatility of .458 like nothing I've ever seen. Great job!!
325 grain Hornady flex tip bullets over H110 are pretty accurate. Not quite the same power as a .45-70 in modern leveraction power level, but very close. More power than .45-70 trapdoor level loads. Good magazines with anti-tilt followers for 5.56 seem to work. It is a fun cartridge.
I remember the time where I would bounce in my chair and celebrate with my precious gunpowder tea the time WhoTeeWho crossed the +10.000 subscribers mark :)
I’m a mechanic and I have those Freon tanks left over. They are my favorite target. When they get filled with holes I put a 1/2lb Of tannerite under them and they go about 200ft in the air and turn inside out.
The ballistic gel would be perfect. Several of those rounds depend on flesh to expand I.e. Hollow points and the jacketed soft points. I was surprised that there was as much expansion as the video showed, metal replacing flesh. A magic marker would help you remember the order of the holes, front and back, good video.
I never understood why the 458 used the LOW PRESSURE (35,000psi) .50AE case as it's basis when the platform it is intended for is a 62,000 psi rifle. For approximately the same base diameter so as to single stack in an AR-15 mag, they could have used the .300 WSM case as the parent and crank the pressures up to 55,000~65,000 psi.
Hey whoteewho, def some nasty impacts that's for sure. I've got my pistol collection built up and starting the rifles now . That gun may have made the top of the list. Thank you sir and as always God bless you and your family
Seriously you needed that Paul Harrell jacket for this one. I love comparisons like this it shows the real difference is projectile design especially when it's from the same firearm. A ballistics gel test would be cool to see for sure! I know from what I saw that the Socom bullet diameter 0.458 in - 11.63 mm being just slightly smaller than a .45 A.C.P. at 1165 mm is a caliber with a lot of options. At 2,565 ft⋅lb energy foot pounds it is a beast! The designer Teppo Jutsu created a very powerful round. I only wish I had received some of that deer you got with it. But maybe next time yes? j/k. Great video Adam
use heavier steel at a bit more distance. What it will do at that short distance is pretty unrealistic. I don't think most use a 450 socom at 10 yards. 50 yards seems like about the right range. Close enough that you shouldn't miss, but far enough to lose a little muzzle velocity, and be safer from ricochets ... just in case.
Is there anything left of a deer after you shoot it with the 458 socom? LOL Favorite bullet tie, I really liked the holes made by the black tip and the heavy lead nose bullets. Impressive hole sizes!! Thanks for the really fun video, Who_Tee_Who!!!

7 entrance holes, 8 exit holes. You didn’t miss, you just hit the same spot twice
“That deer didn’t go anywhere.....except into jerky and burgers”
Yup!
Definitely hamburger after a 458 socom hit!!
I can attest to this. Hit a small buck broadside with a stienel leadnose hollow point and he literally fell over where he stood
