    1. Walking the beach side to side along with the kite sitting on 45 degree (one hand)
    2. Back-stalling -> release the back lines (practice stalling and releasing)
    3. Water start on the sand (on nice clear sandy beach): sit down - get ready - dive the kite - get up

    Hey man, I've been kiting for around 5 years and still find useful things to take on in all your videos....you've helped fill in a lot of gaps in my knowledge and it's great to get the clear explanations and the visual model of how to do something properly.

    Thanks for the tips. I tried kitesurfing 5 years ago but got really frustrated at al those failed waterstarts and then quit. Might give that beachstart a try next summer, see if I can practice this a lot on land.

    • @trexinvert
      @trexinvert 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You might consider "cross training" with waterskiiing. Assuming you develop competent kite mastery, the watersport that I think most similar to kites surfing is waterskiing, where you are towed by a power boat. When you water ski, that "initial" pull and stand-up to ski is a basic skill to master. Utilizing that pulling force with coordination to get on your feet quickly is the key.

    Superb tuition. I especially love the advice to practise water-starts on dry land, judging exactly how much pull it's going to take to get you up - as you take a "bite" out of the wind window and then park it again - without having to cope initially with being tossed about in the ocean, swallowing mouthfuls of salt water. Thanks so much.

      @@FlukesKitesurfing ive started with a small kite on the beach just to get used to flying the kite. I then moved up to a full size kite in 20 knot winds, needless to say i ate Sand a few times, I'm just getting used to leaning back and having the kite pull me and jumping on the beach, I'm yet to strap on a board, I'll try that soon.

    You do such a great job in your explanations. I am planning on taking lessons, but i do best if i could understand the concepts in my head 1st as much as possible. Could u do a video on just the details of how one would move the bar, what & how to move the bar with our hands in changing the kite in all the difference location or power zones( 12 oclock, 11, 1, 3, 9, ...etc). The speed, amt of tilting of the bar in all of these transitions...just how to control the kite in order to be able to fly the kite, keep it on the air, but in a manageable way. I hope i am making sense. It would be great for those who wants to start!!!

    Plagued with light or no wind for months (unless I am busy with work) I’ve done a couple of sessions like this on the of late with my Reedin in 7-8 knots of wind. With a little tuning my 14 pulls fairly hard and will drag my 104kg across the sand easily. Even kite loops are a lot of fun I very light wind.
    Tip: wear booties. You will have lass worry about dragging your heels through the sand and will protect you somewhat. You never know what is buried just below the surface.

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Bear, yeah good idea to have some booties on. Or even flat shoes if you're planning on not heading to the water.

  • @ProjectCamper

    Hi there, brilliant videos, I've never flown a surf kite and looking at your bar system, its back line trim shift, what is the difference to the front line trim pilot, cheers 👍

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers mate glad you enjoy the channel :)
      Yup your right! This bar is Rear line trim, the major difference to a front line trim is where the trim is located.
      Front line Trim is usually above the bar, so you reach forward/above you to the adjustable lines. Where this Stick Shift Bar from O.R, or Duotuone has a similar one, there is a knob at the end of the bar you use to wind in the rear lines or let them out.
      Now that we've tried this rear line trim there's no going back haha :) love it!
      Let us know how you go or which bar you decide on :)
      ~Flukes Kitesurfing

    • @ProjectCamper
      @ProjectCamper 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flukes Kitesurfing is rear line better, I’m gonna purchase a trainer kite and practice in our large field before I go near water, I like the ocean rodeo bar system and the session 3 harness, so may crack on with that. The only thing I’m unsure is the kite size, we have between 15 and 30 mph in shore winds so maybe a 10 metre ?

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ProjectCamper Perfect! Ya well done, 10m would be great i reckon!
      as for bars, both are excellent :) but I'd say go for the rear line trim- Shift Bar. Having the option to adjust the throw by moving the stopper ball is awesome. haha there's no going back to front line trims for us now!

    Foot position. Up wind and down wind. I like left foot forward. Is there a difference ?

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes you can ride either way. Most "regular stance" riders will ride left foot forward when going to the left, and ride switch (right foot forward) when riding to the right. It is possible to not switch, but it means you ride toeside one direction which can get tiring.

    Been practicing on beach many times after a few lessons. Like flying a plane logging my hours on the bar. Makes it so much easier when you go back in the water😀

    LUKE !! I love your videos - THANK YOU !! They are so clear and informative I am learning so much (and am an intermediate 12 years in !!) Love the back stall explanation, i still struggle with adjusting the trim when i am on the water (I now have a North Click bar which i love and has helped me so much, and I imagine the Ocean Rodeo is the same, it looks nice!!) And practicing starts i agree with, i did the same in one of my first lessons with a French instructor in Taiba, Brazil, and he did the same with me, once i had 10 perfect stand ups he let me onto the water, and hey presto i was up straight away. Like you say make sure you choose your location well first, many places I have kited wouldn't be safe to that, but that what common sense is for!! Thanks for all this great content and allowing us some of our own common sense... PS Francis great camera work !!

      Hi Ben, does it take that much time to be good at kiting?

  • @FulvioCasali

    Very helpful explanation of backstalling. And I wish someone had explained to me like you did how to practice the water start on the beach. Also, why you need to keep a bit of pull on the upper line when holding the kite at 45. Thanks!

    • @FlukesKitesurfing
      @FlukesKitesurfing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Fulvio! Glad it helped! To answer your question, it is because when you have the kite on its side (side of the wind window) it will naturally fall. If you let go of the bar, or even hold the bar straight, it will drop. So you must keep a little steering pressure on the top hand to keep the kite stable in the same spot. Thanks, Luke

      Yes, I meant that your explanation in the video about the upper line pull when on 45 degrees was very clear and helpful. I got it right away! There are so many variables to kite and line and bar behavior when the kite is in the air, and it takes a while to grok them all.
