Lore of Middle-earth: The Lost Realm of Arnor

My first attempt at a video giving some background information on the factions of Middle-earth. Starting here with the now lost but once proud realm of Arnor.
From memory: The ring of Barahir was the ring of Finrod Felagund who gave it to Barahir for saving his life (all the way back during the 1st Age). It passed to his son Beren, who showed it to king Thingol to prove his lineage when trying to marry Luthien.
Somehow, it eventually ended up in Rivendell and was given to Aragorn by Elrond.
It was probably the oldest artifact still remaining in Middle Earth during the 4th Age.
The rest I had to look up:
It was passed in direct line from Beren to Dior, Elwing, then Elros, who took it to Numenor. Then the 4th king passed it to his daughter Silmarien, then it went through all the Lords of Andunie all the way to Elendil, then to Isildur and the kings of Arnor, the kings of Arthedain, then to the Lossoth of Forochel, then back to the chieftains of the Dunedain and it was kept at Rivendell. So Elrond received it about 5000 years after his brother held it.
There are also the palantiri which are as old or even older

This has quickly become a favorite channel for me. I've been reading The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion every year since my latter years in college in 1979 - I start every September. You are not only extremely knowledgeable, and enunciate the names as I do, but your voice is a pleasure to listen to. Thank you VERY much from a long time Tolkien fan - I think he would be most pleased with your videos.

Yes about 3-5 of the Dunedain at the Gladden Fields survived, and that's how the shards of Narsil, some of the other trinkets Isildur carried with him, and I believe the Sceptre of Annuminas came to Rivendell to be housed and kept safe. Also Valandil(Isildur's son that stayed behind) was a baby at the time, hence he could not fight lol

I really love the way you decided to frame this particular series. What I would love is a little bit of alternation between pictures that help illustrate the point you're making or the piece of history you're explaining about and actually showing TA:DaC footage, where you can show certain aspects of the mod whilst illustrating what you're talking about. I think that would be highly entertaining.

What makes your channel so good is that you treat it as a serious topic and not just as backdrop for bad video games. I know the Lotr and silmarillion well but you bring in the other sources quite well. Unfinished works are not an easy read and I could never get through a book. Props to you for brining in those works for a complete treatise on tollein's world.

This is absolutely awesome! I'm so happy you're sharing your immense LOTR knowledge with us in this format. I hope you will be making many more of these! I'd especially like a video about the wars between Rohan and Dunland. As well as Gondor vs. Harad. Videos about the more famous yet mysterious individuals would be really cool too. I'm talking about the likes of Glorfindel, Galadriel, and the Witch King. I know Glorfindel is a resurrected super hero from the first age but that's about it.
I recommend you include more Ted Nasmith pictures where applicable. His artwork is some of the best I've seen. I think it wouldn't hurt to include some in game footage every now and then as well. You could possibly recreate famous battles for us if you're up for such a thing/have the time. That would be incredible!
I'm curious, is it ever explained why the elves were so reluctant to help Arnor against the Witch King? Is it because of the losses they took in the war with Sauron? As you just revealed, they sucked it up eventually...after it was too late....bloody elves.
+bbdawise In a nutshell, yes. The elves suffered far worse losses at the Last Alliance than the Dúnedain and after the death of their beloved King, Gil-galad, many began sailing west. The departure of the elves begins at the beginning of the third age. Also, with the Elves knowing that they will be supplanted by men as the dominant race, they become wary of mortal lands and increasingly withdraw to their safe havens.
+bbdawise I second the Ted Nasmith artwork idea. His paintings are hands-down the most hauntingly beautiful representations of Tolkien I've ever seen. An architectural artist by training, his 'people/creatures' are - by his own admission, if I remember - not his strong suit.. but the buildings and landscapes are so evocative and gorgeous.
I would like to see a bit of game play mixed in, especially when it is relevant to the history being discussed :) :) :)

This was realy awesome and fascinating. All these details and even minor details, translation and your showing of the maps using the mouse cursor to highlight areas were awesome ! I personly do not think that you spoke to fast or to slow and I am looking foreward to another episode of this ! Keep it up !
I RP on the Lotro game and this video was recommended to me. I think it's fantastic! You said something about commentating this off the top of your head, wow! I liked everything about this. You've an interesting voice/narrative, the use of the maps was essential I thought and the illustrations too. It was very informative, engrossing and educational. A massive help, thank you. I do intend to watch all your other videos too, I hope that you have done one on the Eorlingas, if not please, please, please make one :)

For the first time, I actually understand what Arnor and the High Men were as more than a hazy notion of "the kingdom that led to Gondor and the Dunedain rangers". I'm glad I started with the first video, and I can't wait to watch all the rest forever always.
I really like how this doubles as background for the mod as well as a general history lesson for anyone interested in LotR. I had never heard of the mod until I watched this video, and I liked that I did not need any knowledge about the mod to enjoy the video. I think skewering it too far towards the mod might hurt the more general audience who just wants to learn about the lore. With that said, I do love maps and including maps from the game may help illustrate where these battles are taking place.
I have just watched all 17 videos you made on the Lore of Middle Earth, and I really found them to be extremely interesting and absorbing, I couldn't stop watching until I had seen them all. Thank you for taking the time and effort to make these episodes, and I have to say that Tolkien was an absolute genius, to have created such an in depth and thorough time frame and history, what an imagination! It really makes the main story of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings make so much more sense, it is fantastic to see where all the history, names and lore fits in. I am sure that the movies, which I absolutely loved, were Peter Jackson's own interpretation of the actual books, but now that I know that there were tweeks and twists to the story that he put in, it kind of annoys me. Making Thranduil a fairly shady and mostly antagonistic character when he is actually a hero in the books irked me seriously, and the simple fact that Azog played no part in the Battle of the Five Armies, he was killed by Dain, it was Bolg that led the attack on Erebor. There are other examples, but those two really stood out to me, I don't get why Director's think that they know better than the original authors and think they have the right to change such loved storylines to appease those who are unfamiliar with the books, which antagonises the actual fans of Tolkien.
If there is a way to do some more in depth lore on the original battles during Malkor's timeline, my favourite character is the Balrog, Durin's Bain, he was just awesome and stupendous in the description, knowing more about the greater Balrogs would be interesting to me and also the great dragons.

You have done a Great Job with this. I'm listening to these and learning much. The info you provide in these are of great use when I play Lotro or The Lord of the Rings Online. I can relate very easily to places in game much more because of your hard work in making this.

A brilliant well made video, your analysis is excellent and adds much to the information available online about this aspect of western Middle Earth's history.
I really enjoyed all of these presentations. They're really detailed and well done. The only suggestions is a correction of words - when a city is surrounded it is "besieged" not "sieged". A minor annoyance is a rather well done series. Thanks!
Excellent Arachir. The only recommendation I would make would be to add a couple of still pictures of units and/or cities from DaC. just as a space filler while your explaining the lore. The other images you've supplied are great though. I look forward to the next video in this series. Without a doubt you are the best Let's Player of TA, specifically DaC of course :).

but gandalf you are the keeper of the old flame of Arnor or wait was it Anor? You should have more knowledge about Arnor for threehundreth livespans of a normal man you walked through middleearth. You should definitly know more about it :-)

Some questions for future ones/quick answers:
Were the Elves and the Dwarves actively participating against Sauron in the War of The Ring, besides Lorien taking Dol Guldur?
Could you elaborate on the Wizards' purpose in Middle-Earth, especially Gandalf?
Why are the Dunedain and the Elves so close?
Does Galadriel have the last Ring given to Elves and Dwarves? Why were only the Humans corrupted?
Rhun and Harad are simply under Sauron's control?
Are there any Balrogs left?
Is there any chance of another powerful faction of Orcs to arise, maybe from The Misty Mountains?
Why did the Elves want to basically peace out from ME? Couldn't Sauron reach the Undying Lands? Also, why are the Lindon Elves separated from Imladris, and where the Silvan forbidden from entering the Undying Lands?
Why did Sauron choose to follow Melkor/Morgoth?
Why are the Dwarves separated? Isn't Dain supposed to rule over them all considering they think Dain keeps reincarnating.

+OdisraFlyrunner The purpose/mission of the five "Wizards" was to fight Melkor/Sauron and help the peoples of middle-earth in their struggle against said enemies. Though Gandalf was the only one actually known to do this since Radagast peaced out in Mirkwood with his beloved animals, Saruman betrayed Rohan and raised an Uruk-Hai army and nothing is known of the two Blue Wizards. I believe the last known Balrog was DB and "he" was slain. Though I read somewhere that there could be more hiding in the depth of middle-earth, but there's no information about those.

1) They did fight in the War of the Ring, Erebor and Lorien were both attacked at the same time as Minas Tirith.
2) I will talk about the wizards in a video I am sure but for now, Webster has it spot on.
3) The Dúnedain and the Elves fought together against Melkor in the first age and they formed a strong bond then. Also Elendil and Gil-galad were very close and this helped cement the friendship of the northern kingdoms.
4) Galadriel has one ring, Gandalf has another and Elrond has the third. The Dwarves did lose all of their rings and they were sort of cursed in a different way to the humans. The Elven rings were kind of made in secret to Sauron's secret ring so they were never enslaved by him.
5) They are yes, as far as we are aware, they are kind of vassal states under him.
6) Webster again hits it spot on, there are none that are named but there are likely more Balrogs alive and in hiding.
7) None whatsoever, the goblins detest daylight and rarely rise up to attack plus they are decimated during the War of the Dwarves and Orcs.
8) Nobody could reach the undying lands unless the Valar allowed them too. And only the Elves were even 'shown' the road to sail there. Imladris was founded as a refuge for those fleeing the downfall of Eregion and was never really a kingdom like Lindon.
9) Sauron wanted power and Melkor had this in abundance.
10) There are seven families of the Dwarves each headed by the royal line descended from the first 7 who were awoken. Dúrin is the bloodline of the dwarves of Erebor but he didn't have rulership of the other 6 clans.
I would hope to expand on many of these points in videos related to Elves and Dwarves but if you want to talk more about a specific one then do say.

You did explain the difference between Sindar and Noldor in a previous reply, but what is this journey that Elves had to undertake, and what are the Avari?
Thanks for clearing up Imladris, I've read that Lothlorien was founded for the same reason. Are Celeborn and Galadriel Noldorin? How about the inhabitants of Lorien?
From what I know, Gandalf refused to be The One's holder, since he thought it would corrupt him, but would't have the other Ring of power help him withstand the effect, since the Elven Rings were created to protect, to heal?
Why did Elves desire to go to Aman? To live with the Valar? And why were the 3 Hobbits and Gimli allowed to go?
Also, were the Valar only responsible for shaping the world, and the Maiar to help it prosper?
How were Orcs and Uruk--Hai bred? Were they actually trained or some were more skilled from the get go?
What are the Palantiri?
Was Saruman actually planning to eventually overthrow Sauron and take his place as the Dark Lord?
If Eru created all Maiar with a specific personality, why did Melkor want to rebel and Mairon crave power?
Black Numenoreans are essentially the ones that Sauron convinced to try and enter Aman and then they joined him?
Elrond is supposed to be the leader of all Elves now that Gil-Galad is dead?
Morgoth could theoretically return, but Sauron is gone for good, right?
Why do Elves and Dwarves dislike each other? The Elves from Eregion traded with Dwarves from Khazad-Dum, no?
Are all Dwarves affected by gold lust, or only ring bearers? Why do they dig the mountains?
Why did Gandalf help Thorin with his quest? He wanted another frontier against Sauron or Smaug dead because he believed Smaug would join him?
Yeah...those turned out to be a lot of questions but you got me seriously re-interested in Tolkien's legendarium!

-the realm of Lindon was established by Gil-galad. Thranduil rules over mostly Silvan elves. Only a few Sindar followed him. The rest were living in Imladris, Lindon and Lothlórien.
-the Great Journey was a journey that the Elves partook in to reach Aman, under the guidance of the Vala Oromë the Hunter. The Avari were the ones who didn't join the Great Journey.
-Celeborn was a Sindar nobleman of the ancient kingdom of Doriath. Galadriel was of the House of Finwë. Do you know who Fëanor is? Well, he was Galadriel's uncle. The inhabitants of Lothlórien are both Noldor and Sindar, and some Silvan elves as well.
-It would still corrupt him.
-They were fading. Their time was coming to an end. Due to Melkor's ravishing of Arda, the hröar of the Elves weakened. If they still stayed in the mortal lands, their fëa (spirit) would consume their hröa (body). By living in Aman, this nullifies it. The three hobbits were granted permission to live in Aman, because they were Ringbearers. Gimli was granted permission by Galadriel.
-The Valar and Maiar worked conjointly.
-Like any other race. They were likely trained.
-The Palantíri were seeing-stones. It basically works like this: If you look west, then you look west in the Palantír, if you look east, then you look east in the Palantír, etc. If you look in the direction of the other Palantíri, you can communicate with their users. They were constructs of the Noldor. Seven were given to the Númenóreans as a gift by the Elves of Tol Eressëa, an island off the coast of Aman. There was also the Master-stone in the tower of Avallónë, also on Tol Eressëa. There were possibly more.

-Eru planned it.
-The Black Númenóreans were the King's Men of Númenór who were living in the colonies of Númenór in Middle-earth during the time of the Invasion of Aman.
-No, just in Imladris. There was no High King of all Elves in Middle-earth. None. Just the title of High-king of the Noldor exists. If you meant the High King of all the Elves on Arda, then that would be Ingwë.
-Melkor will return, Sauron as well. Sauron did not die. He just lost so much of his power that he wouldn't a pose a threat anymore.
-No, just the Sindar and the Dwarves of Nogrod. The Noldor had very friendly relationships with the Dwarves. Just look up Thingol on Tolkien Gateway, and you'll see why the Sindar and the Dwarves of Nogrod hate each other.
-Only the bearers of the Seven Dwarf Rings, and their sons and grandsons.
-Actually, Gandalf was the one to urge Thorin to take back Erebor. And yes, that's why Gandalf wants to take out Smaug.
I absolutely love this idea of Middle-Earth lore. I've always wanted to know more about everything LOTR, but haven't had the time to look it up and read it. Now I can just start this and listen to it while walking or smth.Like all the others have said, I think that you should use DaC pictures as well. And more pictures as a whole.

You are a very good story teller, the only knowledge of Arnor I have is from Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth 2 Rise of the Witch-King, so my knowledge is skewered, The problem being is the factions that I would like to know, have very little documented history, like Dorwinion and the Dúnedain however I am fascinated by Elven History and the Elven Languages which I would love to learn

Unfortunately, apart from the in-game lore of TA:DaC, there is no lore whatsoever for the Land of Dorwinion, as the only "official" information that we have is that it is located "in the burning South" and that it produces wine good and strong enough to get Thranduil's Elves drunk ...
And this is true for most of the factions that are not aligned with the Good (for instance I'd love to learn more about Harad and its Black Numenorean influences, but as there is little to no documentation about it I just rely on DaC's texts, or on RPG-related documentation :/ )
Er-Mûrazor Arangmar I know that's why I think that Dorwinion is interesting, because there is so little information except that they make wine but yeah Harad and Rhun wold be nice to learn about and how Sauron got their allegiance was it by force or deception or other means and the First Age with Melkor
Rupert Hendy I would hold on to that gem of an expansion you got if I were you, so hard to get hold of a copy under £100.00 in the UK due to EA losing rights to Middle-Earth. Always wanted to play that expansion lol.
Isildur's squire, Ohtar managed to return to Rivendell with the shards of Narsil and give them to Valandil.

I like this lore video, because you know so much about Middleearth. I knowed most of the History of Arnor but not everything and it is nice to find someone who can translate all the sindarin words. I am really impressed that you know the bloodline of the dùnedain so well. I think you should use music in your Lore videos( if you did I couldn't hear it)
There are hundreds of players roleplaying dunadan at Bree in LOTRO and every single one of them should watch this.

this is great. I watch Arch Warhammer for warhammer fantasy and 40k lore stuff, and have been waiting an age for someone to start doing middle earth lore. I am a massive tolkien nerd and will provide any help possible if you need it. 10/10 would attend lecture again
Good job with these, but I do have a suggestion: subtitles. While it would undoubtedly make these more difficult to make, it would also solve your difficulty with names that sound the same and/or locations whose names don't sound the way they seem to be spelled. Keep up the good work!

I pointed this out in one of your other videos about the lore of wars, specifically pertaining to the battle at Fornost when Gondor comes late to help the northern kingdom. Earnur and the story after he challenges the Witch-King is told in the game The Lord of the Rings Online, where Earnur is taken by the Witch-King and corrupted, changing him into the Steward of Angmar, Mordirith. His tale continues as the player character develops a story about the ranger Golodir and his daughter Lorniel. The story eventually leads up to the battles of Minas Tirith and the Pelennor field where the player discovers that Mordirith yet lives under a new name; Gothmog, the lieutenant of the armies of Mordor.
Turbine did a great deal of research and lore, putting together a wonderful storyline to include into the game and it fleshes out some of the lore one might not find otherwise outside of the game itself. Something you might want to look in to, maybe?
Well that is heavy fan fiction but I do like the idea that Earnur survived on a servant of evil but it simply isn't canon. :P Unlike Warhammer, and pre-disney Star Wars, where numerous authors can all add to the official canon of the series; Middle-earth is heavily restricted to what Tolkien wrote and Christopher finished off. Some of the concepts are really cool but I wouldn't want people to think they actually happened. :)
I know the game is semi officially licensed, although I do not know to what degree. do know they have a team of lore scholars on board to make sure they do not muck it up too badly.

At the gladden fields only three numenoreans survive one of the is Isildur's squire who he sent away prior to the battle with the shades of narsil to rivendell. No word got back to Gondor I believe. Great video by the way.

Absolutely amazing, Arachir. I'm loving this video so far. The pictures are great, ONE thing that I would mention which could be taken as constructive criticism, would be to have the names of what you are saying pop up on the screen. You seem to be able to speak the names of Middle-earth with incredible ease, but it's sort of hard to picture in my mind how they would be spelled. Being able to see the names on the screen and hear them at the same time would make it waayyy easier to memorize them. Just a suggestion, I realise that might be quite hard to do! Keep up the good work.

The Name of Cardolan could be translated as the land of the red hills
'Car'= red and 'dolan' I think is plural from dol (= hill)

Great video, Arachir. I always love hearing about the lore of Middle Earth, and this was a very entertaining way to learn more. I definitely hope you continue this series to cover as many of the other factions as there is enough information to cover.
The one question I do have is about the prophecy regarding Arvedui's name. I interpreted the prophecy somewhat differently than you described. The prophecy says that "a choice will come to the Dunedain", not to Arvedui himself (the main subject of the prophecy). I interpreted that to mean the choice by Gondor of whether or not to accept Arvedui's claim to their throne. Accepting him as king would have been the "less hopeful" choice, since Arvedui would have been largely unknown to them, and most of Gondor had little opinion of Arnor or its rulers by that time. Earnil, in contrast, would have seemed "more hopeful" since he had just saved Gondor from destruction. Had Arvedui been accepted as king, then (as the prophecy says) he would have become king of a great realm (a thousand-years-early Reunited Kingdom, with both Arnor and Gondor stronger than they were in Aragorn's time), and would naturally have changed his name to reflect that. The fact that the prophecy is described in the appendices immediately after that succession crisis (and in the Gondor section rather than the Arnor section), and that the next paragraph essentially laments that Gondor and Arnor were not reunited through Arvedui, seem to support the idea that the prophecy was referring to that choice.

Northern dunedain campaign is my favourite. all details in it are wonderful. who knows maybe in the future you ll add arnor reforged in dac but even now i think it s the best faction. really enjoyable! very good work :)

And something somewhat related to the video: I'd love if I would be able to reform Arnor, even if it were only an aesthetic change. Conditions would be something like: Conquer all the lands of the Arnor of old (including the Bree-Lands, which would give it a bit of an edge), rebuild the Palace of Kings (or whatever you want to call it) in Annúminas, and have an alliance with Gondor, which would make keeping Gondor alive another challenge for the Northeren Dunedain player. Please let me know what you think of this idea.
I love that idea too but no!! The developers of DAC have decided like from version 0.4 that there will be no "reforge Anor" the northern dunedain have most of Anor troops and the beacon of hope recruitment system to make up for that. If you so want to reforge Anor try the MOS

+Gleomyr Talion As dùnedain you can train the lower and basic units of every human fraction( the evil humans too)when you conquered a province of this fraction or more. You can then train this units there. But it only works with human factions and you just get the Basic units. At the beginning of the dùnedain campain you already start with some brees units in your standart roster( Bree will although get some of your's in their roster) The Beacon of hope recruitment system however belongs not to your standart roster and you can train enedwaith or dale units just in their lands and nowhere else.But when you have conquered dunland,the Rhudaur regions,enedwaith and maybe some rohan provinces that you conquered back from isengard you have a huge roster with Dùnedain elite units and Rangers from your heartlands some bree militia and cheap enedwaith skirmishing units and chavelin throwers some dunlending brute force units some Rhudaur hillmen units which are very nice to have in your roster as heavy infantry and pikemen to fill gaps in your army because it takes a long time til Dùnedain units are available again then you maybe get with rohans lands rohan units like their light and medium cavalry to compensate that you have just three types of cavalry in your standart roster.

One question about this, from someone who doesn't know much (or anything) from LotR before the War of the RIng:
- When Sauron sent the Witch-King to Angmar, was this already the Nazgul Witch KIng? Or was this still the original human who later became the Nazgul? I expect it's the Nazgul, considering he was fighting for about 500 years, but I have no idea when they were formed.
Anywya, if you're looking for inspiration, I'd be curious to hear more about the background of the Nazgul: who were they, where did they come from and when were they turned?
+Oneru According to the appendices of Return of the King, the Nazgul first appeared (as Nazgul) around 2251 of the second age. So the Witch-King had been a Nazgul for about 2500 years prior to founding Angmar around 1300 of the third age. As far as the Nazgul history, they must have been found and turned by Sauron sometime between SA 1500 (when the Rings of Power were forged) and SA 2251 (when they first appear as Nazgul). Other than that, I don't think very much is known about them or their previous lives. Aside from the Witch-King and Khamul the Easterling, none of them are even named within the official lore.

There are just two things I would recommend to you: Put a border and background around the photos to get rid of the black margins and write down a checklist of items to talk about in the order you want to talk about them in so you don't drift off track so often. Great video otherwise though :D

Excellent, really enjoyed this video. Just two little annotations: 1. Earnur's fate is not clear. The Gondorrim just assume he is dead since they never hear of his name again. But Mithrandir and Glorfindel discuss in the annotations to the books, that Earnur may have been enslaved by the Witchking and used as his steward Mordirith in Angmar while the War of the Ring lasted (This also is part of the storyline of LordOfTheRingsOnline which is approved by Tolkien's son). 2. The Witchking of Angmar conquers at least one Palantir and takes it back to Carn Dum, where it is later found by Imladris forces after the fall of Sauron. This Palantir must have been from Annuminas or Amon Sul since the third stone in Eriador still resides in Elostirion.

+raffl svs The Witch-king doesn't capture the Palantir of the north. They are both lost in the sea. Where did you read that he captures one? In the south Mordor gets the Ithil stone and Saruman gets the Orthanc stone, one is lost during the kin-strife and the other remains in the White Tower of Minas Tirith.
+tscchope So your argument is that 'it is extremely believable' yet you present it as fact. I have no qualms entertaining new ideas and theories but please present them as that. I would counter that it is unlikely the Witch-king took the Elostirion stone as he is never known to have marched that close to Lindon and the stone only looked west to Aman. It had no use on the developments of Middle-earth as it did not connect to the other palantir they way the Ithil and Anor stone do for example.

really good! I have been looking for good more in depht lore videos about lotr. Would like you do some beleriand lore as well.
Overall another great video which is very entertaining. Having stills of relevant images seems to be the best I believe and they aren't negatively distracting like gameplay may be, however scrolling around a map or highlighting areas of middle earth that are being discussed would be a possibility if you don't use stills.

Arachír Galudirithon When you mention that someone survived the Gladden field, two did survive. One was Isildur's squire. Isildur sends him away to Imladris with the shards of Narsil, the Ring of Barahir, and the scepter of Arnor.
I know this is from long time ago but you made a few mistakes so as a true Tolkien fan l wish to correct you :
1.Arveduis sons didnt flee with him in blue mountiens they were the ones that said to kirdan where he was so he would then send a ship to rescue him.
2.Malbeth fortold that a choice will be presented to dunedain and not to arvedui himself and that choice was the one when council of gondor was deciding Who is gonna be the new King.
I just wanted to clear those things btw these videos are Great and only ones l found that go this much in detail

Numenorean lifespan (while actually on Numenor) was 200-210 years, unless you were a descendant of Elros, in which case it was about 400 years. Elros himself was 501 years old when he popped his clogs.

Now, one thing that has always puzzled me is why Gondor was more populated than Arnor, considering that it is further from Númenor and closer to Sauron and other antagonistic peoples.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the main reason for that is that Arnorian men paid a much greater toll than Gondorians during the Last Alliance, so Gondor had more possibility to prosper than the Northern Realm. ..
(there is also the fact that being away in the North, Arnor had a less rich land than Gondor had, and this, with Gondor's warmer climate, convinced many a Dúnadan to settle in the Land of Stone instead)

+Leonardo Veras This. Gondor had a much larger 'indigenous' population and the men of Númenor mingled with them far more, thus their bloodline diminished and their lifespans fell fast than those of the north. As you have said though, this also meant Gondor had a larger population overall.
The climate is also very possibly the cause, Gondor is said to have an Italian climate and Arnor is said to have an English climate. Which would you pick. :P

Interesting so Elessar had a rightful claim on the throne of Gondor through Fíriel (passed by) not just through being a heir of Isildur, whose line gave up the claim to the throne. I do like how Tolkien thought of these little details.

Great video , and great idea , giving the History of every faction . I want to add some things about this video. It seems that Cardolan means " Red hill land " . And , apart from Fornost of Arthedain , wich city were the capitals of Cardolan and Rhudaur ? Tharbad was Cardolan's capital or Amôn Sul? Also , you forgot to add that after the disaster of the Gladen Fields , the squire of Isildur took the shards of Narsil to Rivendell. Also, I don't know if you are going to do a video about the History of Gondor , but during the War of Arnor against Angmar , there's the Kin strife in Gondor , something very important in the history of the Dunedain .And I wanted to ask , what provoqued the Great Plague ? I have red that the Witch king himself did it with all his evil and sorcery , but you said that it first came from the East. And loved that you remembered about the Ring of Barahir.
I would be very gratefull that you could make a video about the Realm of Angmar , and what exacly those black numenoreans were, and why there were some of them in the far North of Eriador , in Angmar and near Forodwaith. (sorry for my english)

Tharbad on the otehr hand is real city of course, but it was never called the capital of Cardolan.
Also, there never were any Black Númenóreans in Angmar or Rhudaur; if you read that, you can directly tell it is fan fiction, or from some game; that idea is never mentioned by Tolkien.
The closest you get to that idea is that the Dunedain/Numenorean realm of Rhudaur became a puppet of Angmar - however, at the same time all the Dunedain/Numenoreans in Rhudaur were killed or driven out, and Tolkien do not give any example of any of them joining the WK and/or Sauron.
+Ngugi TWC but it seems that a small group of black numenoreans joined the Witch King to conquer Arnor , and I doubt that they came all the way from Umbar or the south to join him. Maybe the game BFME 2 ROTWK inspired some units with that ... but maybe you are right .
