- With all the remasters that have come out, it's hard to ignore Final Fantasy IV and it's influence on JRPGs. Although it's most notable gift to the RPG genre was the ATB system, FFIV also paved the way for more complex storytelling and themes in games.
And so, the story of FFIV brought one of gaming's most iconic love triangles. Although both men loved her, Rosa chose to be with Cecil, while Kain ended up with no one. Poor Kain. I feel that he deserves to have someone to love. Unrequited love is painful. I can't help but think of Kain whenever I hear "Theme of Love".
The version I chose to make an English adaption out of was "Tsuki no Akari". This version was recorded for the Final Fantasy IV remake on the Nintendo DS. With my adaption, I tried to stay close to the original meaning as best as I could. I did have to use my brain and come up with some additional wording. It was necessary in order for the lyrics to flow better and match the beat of the song. However, I still think I managed to retain the original intent throughout.

This makes me want to play FFIV again. Sad it’s not one of the really popular FF. Nobody really talks about it. It’s one of my favorites by far because there is so much memorable characters and angst. So much romance, redemption, unrequited love, parental love and loss. Amazing epic high fantasy with magical locations. I mean you fly to the freaking moon!
I agree, I wish IV was discussed more in the fandom, along with FF Tactics (not to knock on the popular entries, of course)! I will say that FFIV was a very influential title when it first launched - it really helped JRPGs hone in on more emotional story beats & it paved the way for complex characters to be written in games. It was one of the big popular Final Fantasy entries back in the day, but it got milked to death. The with a lackluster Remake and hit or miss sequel did not help it either. It doesn’t help the best version of FFIV is on the PSP. Not many people will be able to enjoy the definitive complete version. Looking back it’s current state is saddening.
@@EriLyrics YES! It really was one of the most influential games of the jrpg genre. I’d say it helped shape the genre into what it currently is. Also it’s the FF whose formula lasted the longest in the series.
