Wow. Jeremy Salinas is back. Glad to see you. I missed your video series so much and thank God, you are still alive. Great video and I cannot wait to check my KS package out.
Just found this game on the BGG Gen Con Preview list. The description there didn't really grab me, but based on the comments I decided to check out your video. Seeing and hearing the description of the game really brings it to life -- this looks like a really great game and I'm looking forward to seeing it at Gen Con!
Man, now I really want this game. Playing as Cave sold it to me :) And I like how you edited video with less camera transitions and we can see you both in one frame. I find it more enjoyable like that. But it could be only me. Nice review. Keep it up. :)
got to try this after we got back to the hotel from gencon last night - this game was amazing! super balanced and awesomely fun to play. it was a bit daunting to learn the roles, but we had 5 and everyone learned and loved their role. the knight had a bit of trouble in the beginning not paying to have encounters, but once we caught that, everyone had a pretty equal chance of winning the game in the last few turns. i can definitely see coming back to this one with a dedicated group often, and then trying the new variants to change it up. i agree with most of what was said here. i was surprised and pleased with this. wishing i had went back to pick it up myself
Great review! I did Kickstart this game and as a result found out about your TH-cam channel from the updates sent out by the designer. Looking forward to watching more reviews from you guys. Great production and setting for your broadcast.
I remember seeing this on Kickstarter and being impressed with the idea and glad that I could pick it up later if the reviews were great and I wouldn't miss out on any necessary exclusives. Also :) Really great talk through of this game. I appreciate the format and presentation of your series.
Definitely. I do watch and listen to a fair bit of board game related content and really enjoy your approach to presenting what a game is about without getting bogged down in a crunchy rules explanation. Absolutely subscribed and I'll pass the word.
First time I hear about this game and your presentation sure made it sound interesting! Have to try this one out when opportunity arises. On a separate note the audio was a bit loud in this ep (something I haven't experienced in the other eps).
It's impressive that the creator managed to balance roles that are so different from one another. I love the artwork and feel the cave would be my ideal role to play (I get to mess with everyone!)
Amazing review as always. I saw this on Kickstarter a while back, but never really looked into it because it looks way too light for us. But from what I see, this may be much deeper than we thought. And heck, I'm a sucker for asymmetrical games.
Wow, I didn't know anything about this game nor was I interested in it - but this game looks so incredibly cool to me. This just shot to the top of my radar - but I really have to know how long it takes to play - or preferably try it to see if I could even get a chance to play it. Thanks for this video!
Love true asymmetric games like Stronghold and Netrunner (and many of the partially asymmetric ones such as Twilight Struggle, and SW Rebellion). Thanks for the quick overview, can't wait to play it!
I must have been asleep at the wheel when this one dropped. Thanks for putting it on my radar! And I still want an official Man Vs Meeple shirt. Let us know when that drops too!
oh, wow.. That's hard to even comprehend how much thought and work went into creating this game. Simply amazing, I'd absolutely love to try this game.Thank you for a video!
Asymmetrical game play, not only in powers, but in goals and mechanics? Count me in! With the myriad of one-guy-explains-rules-and-opinions-video-reviews this is an interesting format.
looks amazing. Such an interesting idea with loads of replayability. Would expect you have to plat each role at least twice to get a good feel for the game.
Whoa this sounds so cool. I've tried my hand at designing games and I can already imagine the monster of balancing and playtesting that must've went into this. The learning curve would definitely be high though if you have non-gamer friends.
Have you guys played any of the COIN games from GMT? Obviously they are not as whimsical as this, but they reach for a similar goal of having four players play four different games at the same time, all while crashing into each other. Of course, they don't let the terrain become a character and attack everyone else, so advantage VAST. I can't wait to check it out.
This looks amazing! i wonder if it would be "best practices" to have your gaming group simply continue to play the same roles so players can become most familiar with learning strategies and then after a while, start to switch up roles.
11:18 I'm also pretty sure that the dragon is trying to wake up and get out of the cave without being killed. I don't think it minds killing the knight or goblins or thief in the process, that's just gravy, but I don't think it's the primary goal.
The sound from that one mic is still tinny as heck. It's still noticeable even when you use only this one, and not the second one that usually has David sounding much better.
Thank you for the review, I almost backed this on Kickstarter, and now I kind of wish I did. This is probably right up my regular gaming group's alley, despite the vast rules set...
Great video. Was just about to pull the trigger on another game and call it a year.. but I am glad I didn't. Definitely going to pick this up instead, so many things I love in board games in one box. It will be available in retail after GenCon?
I'll be crossing my fingers to be the lucky name drawn from your hat. Otherwise my trigger finger will be ready when the website updates. I got a veery strong feeling from the moment you started talking that Vast will likely be one of those cult classic out of print games that will be near impossible to find in 5 years. The art and player boards (..and wooden dragon figure) already had me immediately sold, but both your and Jeremy's enthusiasm sealed the deal. Thanks again for shedding some light on this one.
There are 4 solo games. The Knight and Goblins go into the Cave trying to smash the Crystals, the Dragon is trying to get out still, and the Thief is trying to get out with 6 Treasures as usual. The Knight's game is probably the richest with several difficulty levels. I will probably rework the Thief's game a little down the road.
I missed the Kickstarter for this, more fool me. This looks amazing. Is the dragon the only wooden meeple? How are the goblins and thief represented on the board? The production values on the game and this channel are excellent!
It seems like a good way to teach this to a group would be to have a separate "how to play" video for each role. Each person can watch the video on their phone or similar, and then reconvene to play. I'm pretty sure that would help get this to the table in my gaming group.
I don't know how my family would feel about this one. They don't like learning new games, but I think this game awesome and truly unique. I like the idea of everyone having a different objective.
I'm interested in how tough the rules are to get through. Bad rules is a great way to kill a game in my game group. I like the character advancement. The way the blocks work for the character is pretty interesting. The different roles are pretty cool and I like how different they are from each other. Nice video guys.
I'm super impressed by this. Kind of surprised that no one has mentioned Claustrophobia, a dungeon crawler which plays very differently for the humans pack (more dnd-ish playstyle) and the demon horde (more resource management oriented playstyle). With the 2nd expansion there's a third role that introduces a single character that's its own faction, but I'm not sure if Croc (the designer) actually managed to create a straight forward 3 player variant. I really love asymmetrical games, but most of the designs probably aren't as "risky", if I may, and the asymmetry comes in the shape of minor mechanism tweaks. Space Cadets, a more "risky" design, has major differences between the roles, but the game fell flat for us as it was almost too complex and long for what we thought would be a lighter experience. I believe a game of this nature has to be REALLY good to compensate for its complexity. Vast, though, sounds ambitious in a whole new level. Mr. Leder, I'll be watching you closely! :D
Yeah been hearing a ton of buzz about this game on Twitter. Too bad I didn't find out about it until after the campaign was over. I think I'm going to try & hit Jonathan Liu up for a demo since we are both in Portland and he apparently plays it even in his sleep! ;) Would be great to win a copy but definitely going on my wishlist! It will be a hard act to follow such an amazing game as this, but hope we can get our campaign out later this year! I can definitely appreciate the incredible amount of work it must have taken to get each of the 5 roles balanced! So many great new games this year, so little time! Arrggghhh! I want to play them all! ;)
I enjoyed the review. I liked the production for the most part. Are you guys going to get some Lav mics? The audio sounds really roomy. If you fix that you guys would have the best looking and sounding show online.
Hi, I'm David Somerville, creator of Vast! As mentioned in the video above, the rules were pretty difficult to write for this one. :) But I'm happy to say that my co-designer and publisher, Patrick Leder, and the amazing team at Leder Games are 100% committed to providing a robust FAQ and clarification hub on the game's BGG page. (We also have plans for explainer videos, but we're not producers, so the timeline on that is iffy.) Communication on the rules is a top priority for us! Thank you so much for your interest in the game. :D
I knew nothing of this game, reddit brought me here, but I have to say that this game looks amazing. I am a sucker for asymmetric games and Vast looks very, very cool! Definitely a game I would love to have.
After seeing this I thought about Andean Abyss. 4 factions that play very different, you always have to be aware of what others are doing, every choice you make affects you AND someone else at the table. Anyway, nice review, nice game ... added to my wishlist.
Shoot, I was on the fence about backing this when it was on kick starter, but seeing it now makes me kick myself for not backing it. Thanks for the video guys.
Nice video. Still watching but how does the game play with less than the max? I've played asymmetric games before, like Dune, where a missing player is really felt. Do you feel like this is true?
Wow. Jeremy Salinas is back. Glad to see you. I missed your video series so much and thank God, you are still alive. Great video and I cannot wait to check my KS package out.

I'm having a hard time understanding when to put the Dragon on the "board"? & can the Dragon move without being fully awake? I'm confused
Great review! I did Kickstart this game and as a result found out about your TH-cam channel from the updates sent out by the designer. Looking forward to watching more reviews from you guys. Great production and setting for your broadcast.

Your videos are very professional, good to have Drakkenstrike back on the scene!
Amazing review as always. I saw this on Kickstarter a while back, but never really looked into it because it looks way too light for us. But from what I see, this may be much deeper than we thought. And heck, I'm a sucker for asymmetrical games.
how does the game change as each player added does it begin to drag between turns ?
Wow, I didn't know anything about this game nor was I interested in it - but this game looks so incredibly cool to me. This just shot to the top of my radar - but I really have to know how long it takes to play - or preferably try it to see if I could even get a chance to play it. Thanks for this video!

The Knight is a girl
Jeremy keeps saying "he". I'm not sure why.
DID YOU JUST ASSUME THIER GENDER!?
I must have been asleep at the wheel when this one dropped. Thanks for putting it on my radar! And I still want an official Man Vs Meeple shirt. Let us know when that drops too!
How does this compare to Space Cadets? This seems to me to be like competitive Space Cadets. Would that be accurate?
oh, wow.. That's hard to even comprehend how much thought and work went into creating this game. Simply amazing, I'd absolutely love to try this game.Thank you for a video!
Ask my wife. It took some work to balance.
Big props to the significant others of board game designers. I'm sure they get drafted to play through some really rough versions of games.
All I can say is Wow! Great explanation of a completely original innovative and phenomenal design. Straight to the top of my wishlist.
I'm feeling pretty good about backing the kickstarter despite the delays. Looking forward to having it in my hands in a month or so!
Man, I love the art on this. And can you imagine getting this game to balance? Wow!
Excellent introduction. I'd like to see a more focused gameplay video once you have a better grasp.
How much time does each additional player add to the game? I imagine a 2 player game takes shorter than a 5 one.
Yeah. I should have backed this - and really came SO close to doing so. I would like to play it!
Jeremy, its been a long time since I've seen a review by you. Great to see you getting back into it. Just...David, very nice as well.
The asymmetry in this looks great. I'd definitely be curious to try it. Wish I was going to Gen Con.
Whoa this sounds so cool. I've tried my hand at designing games and I can already imagine the monster of balancing and playtesting that must've went into this. The learning curve would definitely be high though if you have non-gamer friends.
This video came out a while, are you guys still playing this game?
Great overview guys! Yet another one to add to my ever growing list of games to demo. Thanks for the video!
I am so looking forward to getting this game. Nice overview. Great production on the video!
Amazingly in depth and well produced review of an amazing game! Glad I found your channel. Instantly subscribed!
I love the format of your shows! Keep up the fantastic content.

This looks fantastic ! By the way. Your format is great! Keep up the great work!
Wow! This looks amazing. I'm especially curious about the solo rules. Thanks for the review!
Don't think there's another dungeon crawler game where you can play as a cave ! Any idea on a price point ?
Played a pre-production copy. This is one of the most asymmetrical games I've played. Very interesting. I'm certainly hoping to get a copy for myself.
Very interesting! First time tuning into your channel. Great work!
How similar is it to Roots
Not at all in terms of gameplay. The only similarity is that they're both very asymmetric designs in and of themselves.
11:18 I'm also pretty sure that the dragon is trying to wake up and get out of the cave without being killed. I don't think it minds killing the knight or goblins or thief in the process, that's just gravy, but I don't think it's the primary goal.
Which you totally call yourself on at 19:55. SO that's on me for commenting while watching.
Anyone know whats going to happen RE International/UK release & costs?
Top notch video production. Can't wait to play it. Asymmetry dialled up to 11!
The sound from that one mic is still tinny as heck. It's still noticeable even when you use only this one, and not the second one that usually has David sounding much better.
I totally want to try this! it was a very interesting look on kickstarter and I've kept my eyes on it. love different ideas!
Thank you for the review, I almost backed this on Kickstarter, and now I kind of wish I did. This is probably right up my regular gaming group's alley, despite the vast rules set...
Gosh, how did I miss this on Kickstarter! Too late to the party. Love me some asymmetry!
New to your channel but I just wanted to say that this was a great video with nice editing and explanation of the game. Keep it up guys!
Great video. Was just about to pull the trigger on another game and call it a year.. but I am glad I didn't. Definitely going to pick this up instead, so many things I love in board games in one box. It will be available in retail after GenCon?

Thanks again for shedding some light on this one.
like a sucker I missed it on kickstarter ... retail release date in Europe ? Edit : March 2017 !!! I ordered from the publisher's website !
Well this is different...looks interesting. Welcome back btw you definitely add to the hobby.
this is great, it looks like its right in my wheel house. having played COIN games, I'm curious if they're the same level of asymmetry.
I have all my fingers and toes crossed that this makes it to Europe! Doesn't seem to be confirmed yet.
Looks fascinating. I'd love to hear about how the solo game works.
There are 4 solo games. The Knight and Goblins go into the Cave trying to smash the Crystals, the Dragon is trying to get out still, and the Thief is trying to get out with 6 Treasures as usual. I'm super interested, especially with the asymmetrical play.
Such an interesting premise for a game. Looking forward to seeing if my local board game cafe will have this to try.
Genre defining game! Definitely interested in checking this game out. Glad to see the return of Jeremy (Drakenstrike)!
How did I miss this on Kickstarter! :-( This looks amazing!
Can't find the contest rules, but the video was nice and enjoyable. Regretting not KSing this one!...
This is getting a lot of love right now. It looks great!

I like the character advancement. The way the blocks work for the character is pretty interesting. The different roles are pretty cool and I like how different they are from each other.
Nice video guys.
I will record more instructional videos and solo plays. That should help the learning curve.
+Patrick Leder that would be great!

I enjoyed the review. I liked the production for the most part. Are you guys going to get some Lav mics? The audio sounds really roomy. If you fix that you guys would have the best looking and sounding show online.
If you need an audio guy, I know one.
Looks promising.
And I hope for good designer communication for rules ambiguity on BGG.

I have started a FAQ thread on BGG. The entire game is still available PNP and we will keep moving the rules forward as time goes on.
Sounds brilliant, if a little daunting. When will it hit retail?
Thanks for the review! This looks very interesting and I'm sorry I missed the kickstarter for it.
Great concept. The aesthetic turned me off initially but sounds like the gameplay is enough to overlook that.
I remember seeing this a while back and thinking it was a fun, novel idea; I'll have to keep an eye out for this!
Great review. Definitely interested in trying it out. I'll be at Gen Con this week and hopefully will get a chance
How did I miss this. Looks awesome.

Anyway, nice review, nice game ... added to my wishlist.
I just barely passed on the KS for this. Didn't realize they changed the name! The cave side of things sounds particularly interesting.
A certain MMO put pressure on us to change the name. Post gencon the game will be up for sale on my website.
This looks like an incredible game. I don't see it up for sale anywhere yet, but I really want to try getting a group together to play this.
It'll be for sale at GenCon, and will be available for purchase at ledergames.com shortly thereafter! :)
Wow, thanks for the video. This wasnt on my radar at all. Looking forward to checking it out at Gencon
Great rundown of the game. This game sounds bonkers and a ton of fun.
Very innovative design, looks interesting on paper, will have to play or watch a play through to get a better idea of the game.
This looks really interesting. So unique. Definitely going to have to take a closer look at it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Shoot, I was on the fence about backing this when it was on kick starter, but seeing it now makes me kick myself for not backing it. Thanks for the video guys.
Looks awesome; wish I had backed it back then.
Nice video. Still watching but how does the game play with less than the max? I've played asymmetric games before, like Dune, where a missing player is really felt. Do you feel like this is true?
Backed on KS, patiently waiting for my copy. Been excited since first finding the original Trove thread on BGG. Good video, thanks
The game looks like a lot of fun. Didn't know anything about it until this review. Thanks!
Genre Defining indeed, looks like we finally seeing some new. Great Video Review!
I've been watching this game on Kickstarter for a long time, good to see a good review of the game!
Great job with this video guys. I'm excited to get my copy in the mail sometime around the next 2 weeks!!
Unfortunately, I missed this one on Kickstarter. Looks like a lot of fun.
So sorry i didn't back this when i had the chance, it looks like it turned out to be an awesome game!
Looking forward to seeing this at Gencon... They have booth 2908... go see it for yourself.
Looks super fun! Will hopefully be able to try it sometime soon!
Great overview. Sorry I missed the KS now.
