    Butterfly emerges from chrysalis. I've added some facts to the video for those interested in the procedure. I am currently working on a butterfly life cycle video that will show the pupating process as well as emerging from the chrysalis for several butterflies, so stay tuned for that :) I am adding facts to that video as well, so it should be pretty cool!

    That "big pee" wasn't pee at all, it was meconium, leftover tissue from back when the butterfly was a caterpillar

    I wonder if pigmentation mutations could give a green morpho. I would love to see that.

      Hate to break it to you but there is no blue pigment on the wings, just a structure evolved to reflect blue light and cancel out the others.

    So the body gets smaller while the wings get bigger is because of the fluid inside them right?

    • @mason3461
      @mason3461 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The thing making the abdomen large is the fluid stored in it. They pump said fluid into the wings

    How often do you have to go and capture live specimen to keep the inbreeding down? Also, what do you end up doing with all of these butterflies?

    • @Zooohclock
      @Zooohclock  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Bit of a late response but all of these were released into a butterfly garden in Costa Rica with two different enclosed gardens for the Blue Morphos. I'm not sure how many new individuals need to be added to keep down interbreeding (it would probably depend on population size), but since capturing butterflies in the wild is illegal there, all of these pupas were bought from suppliers.

    Is nt it going extinct because of the sale? Why are you not freeing them? I don't really understand what is the purpose there

    • @ethanbrowncomposer
      @ethanbrowncomposer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are common blue morphos. They aren’t going extinct anytime soon. Releasing butterflies doesn’t really help the populations that much. It never works.
