Oh no!!! It's another disappointment for Wang!! She played yet another fantastic tournament though. All props to Barty. This was a brilliantly played final. 2019 is looking very interesting after this year-end season.
Barty really reminded me of Kim Clijsters in the term of attitude, great in singles and also doubles. She reached 3 GS doubles finals in 2013 and completed a career GS doubles finals in 2014 but lost all of them which caused her to stop playing tennis and returned to cricket. After her comeback to tennis, she had reached some finals but lost some of the first ones. Her mentality had grown stronger as time passed.

WTA - What is the point of having another tournament after the year end finals (WTA Finals Singapore). Not that there is anything wrong with making a few more bucks, but try to do that without embarrassing yourself. Of course players are going to dance to your cue when there is $2.3 million in prize money at stake. Hopefully you will stop this joke of a tournament after the 5 year contract ends in 2019. Maybe have this tournament before the Singapore Finals?
How about having an invitation-only tournament in which whoever wins the title becomes the year end #1 player. I'm sure they can design the system that gives enough points to the winner of the tournament. Such an event will be as respectable as a grand slam.
There are rules, the player who is next in line to qualify is asked to stay on site for one extra day, if a player pulls out they get in. If it's the finals, then they play an exhibition match. Keys pulled out before the semifinals and Wang got in...
