Visceral fat, or fat around the organs tends to be "hard". Subcutaneous fat, or fat trapped in the outer area of the skin, tends to be soft. This guy probably had loads of both, but the subcutaneous fat trapped in the stretched skin would be super soft.

I thought I was the only one who thought this! My husband will have days off or take vacation days and people jump on his butt about it and it’s like ??? Who tf wants to slave away for the rest of their lives when he could be home enjoying his family. Thing is, I see both sides to this. I see how if a person wants something so bad that they just do it. However, I also see the psychological struggle. Uh how to say this-
So y'know the saying "You are your own worst enemy" yeah that y'know that one. Well, that phrase literally applies to life in general since your brain is what ultimately stops your willpower to do something, this need of sorts to succeed at something. So, when it comes down to it you can't say that its "all talk and no action" since it's the brain that prevents the action and the want from being enough. It prevents action and that doesn't necessarily mean your words aren't true. It just means that your psychologically incapable of doing something in that moment because the gears in your head don't want you to accomplish anything. People have psychological things preventing them from doing things in life, it's a generalized normal thing.
And you'd think "oh well exercising is easy at the snap of the finger" or working at something is just easy to start doing. But you don't really look at the benefactors such as psychological issues and potential traumas that a specialist might need to look into. I do see that yeah it _can_ be easy, but not everyone functions that way. Not everybody has the luxury of just doing anything remotely active or productive in the blink of an eye. Everyone has different life stories and those stories are benefactors towards prevented goals in life. I'm glad that he's skinnier now, however I guarantee that it wasn't easy and he probably had to go through therapy for food addiction. Which it is a real addiction, it's not genetic but it's still an addiction that leads to severe eating disorders. So I dunno I just see people who say life is easy, you just gotta be consistent, but not everyone has the luxury of being consistent. Your mind is a complicated thing and it's your own worst enemy ultimately speaking.
The mind is so bad that in some cases with people who have PTSD it's hard for them to be properly mobile. Some people constantly have night terrors and flashbacks. And yes I'm aware of people making jokes about it but PTSD is real and people really do struggle with it to the point it prevents them from living normalized lives or getting to do the things they love. Similar issues with disabled people and people who don't get help from their governments. It's apart of life and life is in gray, not black and white. Life isn't easy for everyone and some people have it harder than most. You can't try to generalize or normalize things like exercising when not everyone has those luxuries to begin with. This guy is wonderful for not allowing his mind to control him, but it's unfortunate because not everyone has that willpower, and it's all circumstantial.
Some people have severe trauma around things like exercising. Which I'll be honest, I can definitely relate to it. My own traumatic experiences revolve around public humiliation and obesity. I know what it feels like when someone says -"go kill yourself"- or something as horrific as that when all I tried to do was lose some weight. Anyway just saying I do see both sides to it, but ultimately it depends on the person, the circumstance, and you can't really judge people who are like how he used to be; overweight. You can't really judge people for being overweight because there's always a story behind why a person overeats. And when you stop looking at the weight and start really seeing that person, you might be like "hey, food isn't your real friend, i'll be a better friend than that.." and stuff like that.
Any who, I thought to just let you (and anybody who reads this) know that not everyone is the same, individuality exists for a reason.....

I started taking a medication to prevent my chronic migraines 3-ish years ago and a weird side effect of it is that it makes anything fizzy taste awful. It makes it taste really bitter.
I lost a lot of weight after starting that pill. I used to crave sodas. Sometimes I still do, but I take one sip of my kid’s Coke or Sprite and it tastes so awful that I’m done craving it for a few more months. But before this I used to drink at least 12 cans of soda a day. Often more.
Now I only drink water at home and usually iced tea if we go out. That’s it.
I already don’t drink alcohol (it triggers my migraines) so that wasn’t an issue for me, but I used to joke that sodas and ice cream were my only vices.
I’ve cut back on the ice cream too.
Now I just have to convince myself to go to the gym a couple times a week.

I was on a roll for several months and lost 30 pounds, but then I kind of fell off and now it’s difficult to get back into the mindset of working out and watching calories etc. like it was easy once I got into the roll, but after falling off everything seems so far out of reach-especially as I creep closer and closer to 30.

The opposite is also true, i hear a lot from Europeans spending time in the US that food is terrible because of this, like too much of everything.
I don't know if what i'm saying makes sense but i've heard that multiple times. I'm not making generalities btw, i'm sure it doesn't apply to everyone.
But i totally understand why there are so much overweight people there. Any other country would be if they had food like that. Really sad 😥

The thing I like most being outside of the US is that life is a lot slower. I can stop and smell the roses, so to speak. I can also literally cook a meal and sit down and eat, spend time with family, etc., and there's no expectation for me to give that time up slaving for a pathetic wage at a greedy company just to make ends meet.

Losing weight feels like quitting an addiction and I keep relapsing

    • @DeadlyTiger
      @DeadlyTiger ปีที่แล้ว +10

They say food addiction is much harder than any other addiction, because you can't abstain from your addiction. They tell alcoholics not to even have one sip because of how easily one sip can turn into 10 drinks. However, you can't not eat, so you have to use pure will power to stop yourself at the metaphorical "one sip"
If you have extra money available, I highly recommend a meal kit service. They are pretty expensive, though usually less expensive than eating out every meal. I found Hello Fresh taught me how to cook healthy meals that taste good. Or at least much healthier than I was eating before and showed me how much food a normal serving was. Before that, basically all I knew how to cook was pastas and curries with lots of rice. Lots of high carb meals with no or little veg and meat. We did Hello Fresh for 3 months and kept the receipt cards and now make the meals ourselves.

Sure it’s good tv but going out of their way to edit things to fit an outrage type narrative is super actually extra gross when you find it out.

I got contacted by a recruiter for My 600lb Life once. The crap they do to exploit people is disgusting. There was a list of "optional" things that had monetary compensation next to them. I wish I'd screenshotted some of those things. I remember one of the items was to allow them to film me bathing, if I agreed they'd give me an additional $5000. Another was to order multiple meals in one day of shooting(I think they recommended 5-6 meals), compensation was $2000. I turned them down because it just all felt so gross to me.

In a year I lost 20 lbs. That's when they heard me and found out I have serious internal plumbing issues. Now that those are fixed... I dropped half my weight in 6 months. Nothing changed... just the plumbing. So if you are legit trying, do not see results... talk to your doctor. I mean trying for more than 6 months with no cheats, no short cuts. DEDICATION is what you NEED, sticking to your goals no matter the cost, no matter the sacrifice. We all get tired and worn out, but being driven and dedicated will always trump ‘feeling motivated’ every day of the week.”
So no matter how exhausted I am from working crazy hours, no matter if my brain tells me to hit the snooze button at 5am, I’m DONE making excuses bc I’m gonna be getting my dream body no matter what!!

I agree with Ken, it is modern day slavery. For example, my workplace recently took a group of tenured employees and threw us into this "special" team that's supposed to handle task and take us off of the previous task we were doing to give us something new to do. After a year of doing this, they decided to put us in a meeting and tell us we would be doing the old task again and also doing the new task since we are so good at it. To prevent us from dropping from the new task, they turned around and added the task we are doing now to final advancement/promotion, that way we can't be like "hey, I don't want to do these tasks anymore if you're going to make us do the old task. It is modern day slavery, and some people may say it's idiotic, which is the reason I'm working on something to get a new job somewhere else. These companies will keep taking and taking, as much as they can, because they know people rely on the money to take care of their families. I know Ken went totally off topic with the video, but it's a big subject I hate about big companies.

A veggie ramen meal ? That's horrible. No protein and a ton of carbs. You dont need to be a fancy cook. Some sort of meat, frozen low carb vege (Asian mix), small potatoe. Use real fats like butter, not margarine. Fruits are berries: blue, black, rasp.

I’m relieved he’s not continuing in that former path. He must be happier now. Also, he deserves a medal for it, because it’s not easy breaking self-destructive habits. It takes some real determination and fortitude and endurance. Suffering for the short-term is necessary. But it’s worth it, and more. You pay with a little pain, but what you buy is true freedom from a hard task-master.

The reason why his fat was more gelatinous is because of all the salt he was putting in his food. He’s retaining water. That happened to me after my pregnancy. If I eat too much salt, my feet swell up.

To go with the "just do it" talk, something I've been coming to terms with is the "should have done" mentality.
I keep thinking I should have done something a year ago or ten years ago or when I was a kid -- learn a skill, start a sport, whatever takes time to master. And when I think about how much I regret not doing it, it feels harder to do it now; after all, I've passed my prime, haven't I? But it helps to think of the future: someday, you'll look back and think on what you should have started doing when you were however old you are right now. And you can wait for that to happen and let yourself regret what you should have done, or you can start doing it now so a year or ten years down the line you can look back and be glad you achieved what you wanted.
That's how I've been approaching every goal I think I should have begun when I was young. Someday I'll be proud that today's the day I started.

been a dedicated watcher of your channel for few months, specifically the TCAP and the 1000lb sisters are my favorite to re-watch even. 1000lb sisters and you guys have motivated me to take control of my weight. your right, its a choice you have to make for yourself in the end. I'm down 150lbs. Its all a choice. You can still eat 'junk' but make better choices about it. It won't start till you take the first step. And it won't keep going unless you do too. Wishing everyone luck on their health journeys.

The seasoning is NoSalt a no sodium alternative for salt that is for people with high blood pressure or heart conditions. I have to use it everyday myself. It's quite possible everything he ate didn't already have salt on it. Either way I'm glad he was able to turn his life around.

I was about to say the same thing. My daughter was on a no sodium diet for a while due to kidney disease... And then the low sodium diet until she was in remission. Mrs. Dash and No Salt was a life saver during those times.

It’s not just for blood pressure or heart patients! It’s also used for people who have water weight problems, my mother gains water weight so bad if not on a low sodium diet and get hospitalized so they can drain her as the normal water pills sometimes don’t work well enough orally. Just yesterday she came home from the hospital because the water for the first time went into her lungs, she did lose 16lbs tho and feels a lot better! She had kidney cancer but that I think worsened it as even before she developed that she was hospitalized before. They don’t fully know why she has water problems (she gains more water then fat for a very obese woman) except it possibly has something to do with her past strokes. Also please use my mom as inspiration she’s always supportive of me and other’s working hard not to be like her and wants to be some form of inspiration. She is tho also working on her fat type weight too.

The topic about making people happy with food makes me think about my friendship with my coworker. We are years apart (me 26, him 58 but he looks like 35, like what kind of black magic is this?) and we bonded through some traumatic experiences we've both been through in our childhood, which was literally the same. Found out that we both love mediterranean food, share some similar interests and have a deep love for Italy. One day he gifted me a persimmon, so I gifted him a nectarine. Then he gifted me an avocado, so I gifted him plums. Now we have established this habit of casually gifting fruits and I absolutely love this. In just two years of knowing each other he's given me more life advice, attention and supported and teached me more things than my father ever had.
Anyway, I think people should start gifting fruits and berries or vegetables/nuts and generally just healthier food instead of junk food so anyone can enjoy eating without guilt :) sometimes it's the little things that make people happy.
Keep it up Ken and Dane, cheers from Germany!!

I love the discussion regarding how difficult these situations are. I eat too much, but my real issue right now is malt liquor. I made it two months sober, but then I got in a car wreck and went home an absolute nervous wreck, which was my segue back into the damned liquor. For the last month I've been off the wagon. Pray for me people. I want to fix this.

During this episode they'd made him look like he was eating more food than he was too for entertainment. He was already in the process of starting to lose weight so he could fit in the shower again, but good ol' TLC and making things more dramatic. And the fast food thing, they left the food the dad ordered in the car so it looked like what happened really did happen.

I eat chips one at a time, its for enjoyment :) I've always been that way since i was a kid, even going so far as to nibble my snacks to savour their flavours. I think it really helped me later on in my adult life to really be able to distinguish different flavours overall.

I enjoyed that Dane and Ken spoke about committing to something if you truly want something. It was inspiring and mind opening what they had to say. I had to move back from the city this year to my small hometown on the Oregon Coast, which made me sad and has been hard for me mentally. Instead of making the right choices and working to go back to the city: I started to drink uncontrollably and complain all the time which clearly doesn't accomplish anything. I'm in the process of getting sober (almost at 3 weeks of no drinking) and it has definitely helped me in many ways. Thank you for saying what you both had to say regarding to committing to what you really want and making better choices.

The hard part (for me) about working out is (re)creating the habit. I was a gym rat when I was a teen, but I have trauma from certain things that give me an extreme aversion to exercise.
That being said, I tried a super easy workout, was REALLY sore the next day, and couldn't work out for 3 days until it wore off. I can't create a habit if I have to stop and wait every time I do a little bit, but maybe I'm just at a much lower fitness level than I thought. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I’m also a huge believer of the idea that you don’t want something enough unless you’re doing something to get it. When it comes to cooking vs buying fast food, it takes about the same amount of time to go get fast food as it does to cook, but one is so much more convenient than the other that it’s the easier but worse choice.

I had idk 4 hours in a day to get to/from work and sleep then one day off every 3 weeks. 🤦‍♀️

My younger brother has been struggling with his weight for a while now. His highest was 285 pounds at 15 years. Now, a year later, he did lose a bit of weight (I think he's at 240 now) but our father has had enough of him not caring about the rules and school or himself and is sending him back to our mom where he got so heavily obese in the first place. And this video just hit differently after hearing the news of my baby brother moving back today. I am so scared he might become just as obese at some point without me being able to do anything about it.
I just hope that he will turn his life around someday and be just as successful.
