This hurt because he IS one of the best magicians in the world. His first act should have been his final act, and his final act should have been his first. Rest assured, this is NOT the last we shall hear of Eric. Hopefully AGT as a platform will give him the recognition he deserves. David Vargas I would not say so as I am sure Eric is capable of anything but just did not have enough time to prepare it. Time is tight on this show and it takes a lot of time to create new magic.
He should had saved his first act for his final act... .it was truly amazing and hard to beat.
The reason he made it to the final act was because his first two were so impressive... particularly the first one. Can't get to the final act if they don't vote you through on the first one.

Because AGT producers saw him do that act years ago in a Magic championship and forced him to do it first for his audition
He is doing a new imaginative set of magic routine n tricks never seen done by other magicians before . SImply bcos he is unique and not simply a copycat magicians.
Not a big stage so what . , this is more powerful and beautiful to watch than all the big stage ones . Give me his close up magic anytime than the other boring magic with big stage props
also just learnt from his Instagram, he just had 3 days to come up with this new act and practice bcos his original planned act was not allowed. Much credit to him that he still managed to come up with it and perform credibly.

I thought his trick was beautiful and unique. He used something different. I mean I completely agree with Howie. Magic doesn't have to be enormous all the time.

I understood Eric’s situation, you can’t really tell a close up magician to go big next time because they specialise in small but powerful magic. It’s indeed a huge risk that Eric made.

I love that Eric has gained so much confidence from his first audition to now despite his performances not being a step up. Hopes he secures a spot in the finals. Have a feeling he will step it up. 🤷♂️🙏🏽👏🏾👍🏾

He was the winners of several major and talent show, if any, he should have been a veteran by agt preliminary standards. And yet in his 1st audition intro, he potrayed himself as a novice. So... its obvious his intention was to bamboozle ppl that nvr watch anything outside US

I actually really like this performance a lot. He's plucking monuments off a globe, transferring them to cards, and places them onto a world map, then erects them. There's also a great little detail when he makes the Tower of Babel card fall over. Eric has exceptional story-telling talent when it comes to his tricks that's simply not recognized on this stage.
That said, I definitely think his first performance should've been his ace instead of his audition, because that eclipsed his performance here.
EDIT: I'm an idiot. That's not the Tower of Babel, it's the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It's still a great detail regardless.

The Omega Effect Nope... It was far beyond shin lim... It was literally next level act but yes... he went downhill after a few rounds... I still wanted him to go through next round so he would do his grand finale act he talked about which took him a year and a half
First Legend yep his first act was insane. My favourite act actusllly. His second act was still incredible tho. It was just free that, his 3rd act etc. They all were disappoint and anticlimactic. I don’t really think he deserves to be in the finals to be fair

I think shin lim and eric chien have their own way and different ways they do the magic ..but I like shin lim & eric chien .they are both the best I have ever seen

What is hard to understand?
Blank cards --> Cards with famous landmarks
Pulling a map out of the bag that is bigger than the bag.
Changed the heads on Mount Rushmore from Judges to the original heads on a card
Placed landmark cards onto the world map.
Make the Tower of Pisa card stands upright, then made it leaning by on its own accord.
Pulling a Statue of Liberty out of a card
All cards on the table turned into tiny 3D version of the landmarks.
They probably saw how the last trick was done

I was a little confused myself...but he never fails to impress the hell out of me!
The judges were clearly enjoying his act and then they all poorly criticized it. The blonde one couldn't even come up with something bad to tell him. Simon saying he was confused the whole act when he was smiling when the camera caught him twice or thrice. And how can anyone with normal IQ actually think this act was confusing? lol Everything is done so slowly and right on our faces. It's literally impossible to not follow what's happening, even if we don't know how he's doing things. And Howie or whatever criticized his acting as if he didn't know it's part of the act and Eric's persona. I'm also quite sure he said he loved Eric's fake confusion at some point. It's really hard to not think they were trying to influence people's votes. And Simon's advice of going big is just dumb. It's the same as asking an ukulele master to 'step it up' and play some cello.
I also don't think this was any close to his audition but I was glad to see a new act from him. Creative, good diversity of tricks, solid execution.
It wasn't confusing, but it wasn't good either. I could see some of the tricks again, like I think there was a string with the leaning tower of pisa. Then he grabbed the statue of liberty with his thumb, he was even shaking. Then the last trick was a camera work. We don't know what happened on the table which is not fair to the viewers. Camera trick is the worst form of magic. It was creative but felt slow. Preparation of the props felt longer than the tricks. Execution wasn't smooth.
It was lame and boring. I was a huge fan but this act was really poor. Should have stuck to the cards like Shin Lim
Also some of it was confusing. Where did all those building blocks come from? Did they just randomly appear? We should have been able to see them appear
I bet they rigged it so he wouldnt win because he already had won asias got talent and won FISM 2018 for close up magic.

To be fair he only had couple days to prepare this time, he's for sure not top 3 of tonight, but I hope he's in the dunkin save tomorrow to give him a chance of the final because I think he should be in the final. It's just my opinion.
It's a shame. He deserves better.
i dont understand why he couldn’t have been for next week, he just did the quarter finals last week so why didn’t they had him go for next week’s semifinals ???

@@erossubliminals3528 A few of the contestants from all 3 weeks of quarter finals have to participate in a week of of semi final. I think it's to give other contestants fairness. He was just unlucky.

He is the best
The fact that the judges called world monuments as city shows that they were literally confused.
I get the theme of his performance:
1. from a point on the globe, he transforms it into 2D images.
2. from 2D images, it was transformed into 3D constructions.
For those confused, that's the whole point of magic!
The point is, he cheated the viewers with his final reveal. This is no magic,
The reason it was confusing was bc of the camera angles. At the end when he did the big reveal and it cut to the 3D buildings appearing out of nowhere, it didn’t actually show the table in view so you couldn’t even see how it was done . I don’t know if he requested the camera to not get that in view or what.
@@morganh1071 I can't really argue the end part, it did feel like an anticlimax of what you'd typically see in a magic performance. Though I like his theme in the performance and there was a few neat tricks still.

Most the comments are saying "The first trick was better bla bla bla"
Being a person that dabbles in a tiny bit of sleight of hand it is extremely difficult to create a trick like that, he would've used multiple gimmicks in the first trick that become dull in the following tricks if repeated. Although I do agree that the last two were less dramatic than the first, the difficulty of these were at equal standards (if you go back and watch the first trick and know sleight of hand you can mostly tell how he does the tricks). In the end he still deserves the credit for what he did in the first trick so ye.

Probably judges expecting more and big, like conjuring a huge monument from the map. Regardless of that expectation, Eric is really good at it, producing the impossible. I am pretty sure the whole world wants to see what's next. Eric might be saving the best for the last.

Watch that Mount Rushmore change at .5 speed, you can clearly see him drop the picture into his palm and then take it into his opposite hand, could I do it? No, but wasn't a great close up for that trick.

I'm going to be honest. I think his first act was the best and that's what's making me stick to him. Somehow he's stepping down more than stepping up. I rank his acts from audition to this. I was really hoping he was going to do something like his first so BADLY!

I think his first performance would have gone over the time limit in the live rounds. Also he probably was under the pressure from AGT producers to perform his award winning act in the audition like Steve Brundage mentioned in his TH-cam channel.

If there's miscommunication in a show, then it's the responsibility of the presenter to make it clear. You can't blame the entire audience for "not getting it"
The camera work ruined the performance i didn't know what was going on, or maybe the performance itself is very confusing.

I agree! If you don't see something appear or disappear on camera, it just doesn't work. Anything is possible off camera.

You'd think the Judges would understand the type of magic Eric does after all of his performances! Part of his stage presence is acting like "What Just Happened?" No matter what the judges say, I know Eric's an excellent magician! Eric blew everyone away with his first act & maybe he should've come back doing a performance like the ones he did in the beginning.

Found out that he prepared this act in only 3 days because he had some issues with the original plan so he could not perform it. He also mentioned that actually he had prepared an act for the final which he'd been practicing for 6 months, unfortunately he lost his chance to perform that big act. Hope he could join BGT The Champions next time.
I hope he joins that too! But he needs to prepare a really good act for his audition since only 2 are going through from the preliminary rounds.

I have to agree with simon here coz i see what i see. he used simple tricks that even without magic knowledge people like me can see. This is what happened when someone get high hope on u but u can't impress them. Keep it going. Show ur best form and prove them wrong.
