Thank you. These equipment videos are very informative. Our equipment is all many years old. We need to start updating.

This was interesting. Might have to consider this on my first hike. Solid budget gear is what we need.

I’d love to know what cords you used to attach your tent to the bottom of the pack like that? Great way to boost the volume a bit!

I couldn't find the exact version of the straps I use as I've had mine for as long as I can remember, but here is a link to a comparable product amzn.to/315C2JE

I found the shoulder straps a bit too far apart on the point where they are attached, needed to pull the straps together with the sternum strap, which put a bit of uneven pressure on the straps. Otherwise a great bag! Carries weight close to the body, which makes it carry the weight with ease.

It very much does have a frame. It connects pretty much directly to the hip belt at the sides of the hips. It's just not a trampoline style suspension. But, for me, it has a very good frame/suspension!

I like how the design gives the option to remove the frame and some other parts of the bag if you don’t need the space to optimize pack weight further. It rides at least as comfortably as my Exos 58.

This backpack is not water proof. The stitching is not taped.

I suppose waterproof wasn’t the correct term to use, but it certainly is more water resistant than most bags! 😁 An internal liner &/or the use of dry bags will add more complete protection for sure

@@TrailTime Yes I absolutely agree, it is water resistant. I have experience using this bag in the rain. A pack liner is essential to keeping gear completely dry. Overall I am very impressed with the quality of this backpack. Your review summed up the rugged design. I feel the same about this pack.

I note you didn't talk about how it might handle higher weights when more water carries are required, nor did you address how it was moving from the Osprey with air circulation behind your back to a back with no circulation. After carrying an Exos 58, trying out a Gossamer Gear pack with similarly no circulation was miserable by comparison, my back getting wet all the time. But it looks like you haven't used it when it isn't cold outside.

    • @TrailTime
      @TrailTime  3 ปีที่แล้ว

That’s a fair point! I haven’t carried it in very warm temps yet, but even with the Exos my back would be drenched, so I just accept it as part of backpacking for me 😂
It has a 40lb weight limit, so big water carries may limit this backpack for certain. I think one could get crafty with the straps on the back of the bag to expand water capacity.

@@TrailTime In trying out several ultralight packs, I've found it's common for manufacturers to way overestimate the weight limit. It may technically "carry" the weight, but it's likely not going to be comfortable at all. When you have to carry heavier loads, frameless or ultralight frames are not up to the job. To be fair, it's not designed for that, it's designed to be an "ultralight" or "lightweight" pack.
If your back got drenched in an Exos, just wait until you carry this pack in warmer weather. I tried to accept a hot back as a "part of backpacking," but I found the difference between a pack with some air circulation and one without was, for me, not worth the weight difference. Your results may vary.

I found similar weight carrying issues with my Exos when I had to water up. Several odd pressure points developed where the frame would shift to make room for my reservoir. I think both are great packs! I’m excited to keep learning and experiencing what this pack can do for me. 👍🏼

Too bad Drop "dropped" it from their site (along with X-Mid tent), and it is only available exclusively through Amazon (& for +$10 more) as of now.
Also, I would suggest a Nylofume Pack Liner inside the pack to waterproof your gear.

    • @TrailTime

Nice suggestion! I’ll look into those liners. It’s a shame they’re pricier now but that’s how drop works 🤷🏼‍♂️ cheaper prices for a limited time.
