  • There are many different sockets to choose from. Deep, Shallow, Semi-Deep, Swivel, ETC..., But is there a Socket that you can buy only one time that you'll never have to buy again? I think I answer just this very same question during this video. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

    I got the semi deep impact sockets from Grey Pneumatic for $37

      Are those Grey Pneumatic any good? And who makes them?

    • @anthonyjoe9139
      @anthonyjoe9139 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ozzyfranf Pretty good stuff. I have a set of their Duo Sockets. Impact rated sockets that are as slim as regular sockets. Work great, like my Harbor Freight. They're almost all made in Taiwan and excellent. I really don't know the benefit of paying Crap-On nigh unto $200 for a breaker bar when I can get one for $12 at Harbor Freight. Taiwan is key, Taiwanese tools are excellent very often these days. Also, don't delude yourself, a crapload of the stuff from Crap-On is made in China and have fun getting it warrantied. I have a bunch of Crap-ons but I'll never buy any more. $200 gets a boatload of HF. I put a six foot pipe bender on my 1/2 " $12 HF breaker bar which I got on sale for $9 and jumped up and down on it like a monkey. It bowed but didn't break and sprang back when the bolt broke loose. I did break a Wal-mart socket this way before I switched to a HF impact socket which took the punishment without a hitch. I don't really recommend this and hope you don't have the gall to get it refunded if you have a bad result . Also, I really went flying when that thing came loose. If you can break their Pittsburg breaker bar I'd like to see it.

    Must admit I did wonder why until I found a 1/4 drive 7mm on a truck. Started using it on a ratchet for hose clips, it became a go to. So I bought a 3/8 drive set. They’re kind of a happy medium. Often means you don’t need to grab an extension as well. If you add a 1” extension to a shallow socket it will probably be almost the height of your deeps. This is why these fit in lots of places, they’re that crucial bit shorter than a shallow & shortest extension.

    First off... nice set of tools. Although...
    I viewed this video as you explaining why you bought this tool set and didn’t it shop around for a better deal or buy a Tool set of a different brand. The fact that you didn’t shop eBay or online means you wanted the immediate gratification of having the tools. I do the same by the way with some tools.
    If you don’t make new financial habits then you are doomed to keep running in the same circle you are in.
    Best of luck. Keep the videos coming.

      The problem with EBay is you get a lot of trash tools on it.
      If you're really strapped for cash then it worth the nickle and dime job but if you need better made stuff that doesn't fuck up or fits properly then you have to go this way.
      The other problem with EBay is warranty, as people buy stuff from a truck but do a dodgy deal with it or sell stuff on the sly and you have no warranty on that stuff.
      That can cause big problems

      The gearwrench are nice. Used them everyday at work. Especially the 13,14,15,18. They are a little beefy. Thicker. But never had a problem where they wouldn't fit. I also really like gearwrench sockets cause they wear nice. They take forever to mushroom or deform. I actually think snap on are a little softer. Mine have always shown signs of wear a lot faster than some. Best chrome sockets for not wearing out I think are gearwrench and s-k.

    I bought a 13mm med. deep well from snap on. $21 for one socket.
    I guess if you need the whole set. That would be the way to go. Snap On is right down the road from me, and I feel guilty for not buying their tools, but they are so pricey. Sears was a mile away from me. Now that they are gone. I may need to invest in Snap On.

    How did Duralast sockets hold up

  • @richb2229
    @richb2229 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    GearWrench mid lengths have the same sizes and is about $40 for the sockets on a rail no ratchet. They are good sockets, not Snap On or Mac quality but close enough for sockets even professionals won’t use everyday.

      Gear Wrench also sells a bit socket set that's a steal. $40 for torx, mm,
      and sae hex. That'd be at least $60 if I bought the sets individually.

    Nice ratchet haven't gotten it in comfort grip yet but the kids might have One snapon definitely one of the best but I got the kid's 3 and it was just a guess little under 400 but 1/2" and 3/8" pricey but definitely good. I got them some Capri and tecton and proto and hf not a complaint after a year on anything but they did say Capri was not too bad. Not really a hf fan but one thing the impact deep well been beaten on from the shop to the farm and have not broken one yet lost one in the field but they are tuff so far and we use a Milwaukee 1/2" fuel impact with like 1400foot lbs on everything from tractor to lug nuts so far so good.

    244.00 for that? You would be crazy to buy that set in my humble option. Many quality sets out their fora fraction of the price. I could never justify that purchase

    Why doesn't anyone make ratcheting box ends with a nut retaining lip ?
    It would seem to me that the nut passing right through is the biggest reason why one wouldn't always use ratcheting box ends over a ratchet with sockets.
    For the most part would these not replace deep and semi deep sockets in many cases ?

    I'd like to know when do semi deep come in handy?

    • @JustinDowDIYcentralhighway
      @JustinDowDIYcentralhighway  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All the time. Just depends on where the fastener is located. When I was installing and removing cylinder heads and engines I always found myself reaching for them. When Deep was too deep and shallow was to shallow. The Mids were pretty much a go to for me. Though I only purchased them for 3/8 drive and 1/4 drive. Never found a need for half inch mids.

    This is more like the last socket set that I'd ever conside buyong. For $20/socket I'd expect them to be made of adamantium with embedded tracking chips. The only tool that never needs to be replaced is locked up, never used..

    If you keep it in the snapon family its all good, i like japanese and german tools. Some sets from them climb up to 24mm in 9.5mm drive aka 3/8. I dont care what ISO thinks i am getting $#!# done regardless what the ivory tower types think
