I worked in the oil field on a drilling rig right out of high school. The boss had us repaint the rig at least twice a year. I would use one of those paint chippers 8 hours a day. Not a good memory but it made me a living...
I had one of those HF needle scalers. I bet the main hammer is broken. When you take the needle retainer off and the needles out, part of it will come too. I got the Chief branded one at HF. Lots gooder, but quite a bit more money. I like Don's gun style scaler! I hadn't thought of flattening the needle ends.
Of course... Messy, hard on your skin, still needs neutralized and cost a heck of a lot more.... I'll be finished before you get the first layer of paint off :)
Hey I want Don to be my friend. We can get my federal planer restored and running,. She's got a 4ft x 14" table , X n Y clapper boxes like yours. Have the overhead drive but need to build super structure for motor, 1 hp 3 phase. Then build a converter with 5hp drive for the shop. Also we can repair ,, restore,, my Rockwell Delta 20" drill press with power feed Milwaukee type . My wife's a super cook n baker to boot. Home made cinnamon buns to die for with raisins n pecans . Hot n gooey love in the oven.

Works 10 times better when sharpened flat!

I like you guys, you work good together.
Thanks....
I had a Harbor freight mini needle scaler and the needles keep blowing out the end of the gun
Some things at Harbor Freight are ok! The needler is not one of them!
Mine has held up ok.... It has done the planer and another mill.... Just not as strong as Don's from day one...
How's your tinnitus? Mine gets worse looking at people using loud stuff without ear protection!
My hearing is good no tinnitus and I’m 68
@@dmadere1 Your lucky, I'm 68, I've had tinnitus for the last 25 years, industrial noise!!
@@MatthewTinker-au-pont-blanc that sucks have a friend says it drives him nuts sometimes
What do you use to clean the cast iron before putting the first coat of paint on it. Seems it would have a lot of oil in the pores.
Acetone is what I used on my Axelson I restored. Lots of Acetone! Worked good as parts of it had 50 years of oil soaking in. Also leaves no residue.
have you tried chemical paint strippers?

@@10swatkins good advice, thank you for needle scaler advice. is it ok needle scaler on cast Alum. parts?
@@akfarmboy49 Go watch this video... th-cam.com/video/9SCAQq92XD0/w-d-xo.html It shows the needler on cast aluminum , cast iron and steel....
@@akfarmboy49 yes the end cover on the left side of the Axelson which I needled in the video is cast aluminum!
What I meant was on thinner aluminum covers does it get distorted or make a impacted surface finish
I Steve I enjoy you videos. I you have a chance go to Machinery Consultants Inc. On you tube the have a 28" x132" AXELSON lathe that is perfect.
I will check it out
Send Don down under . There is lots of paint to remove here
Can't do it... Don would get dizzy standing on his head ........
