I'm not sure; I know the F tuba is smaller, but I think he was playing a CC tuba.

Howard Johnson also played with Taj Mahal on the studio version of 'Cake Walk Into Town.' I almost feel like he isn't entirely in tune with the band, here; the lower register doesn't quite match. Never seen a tuba mouthpiece like that, either.
