A few years ago, a friend (C-17 pilot) was retiring from the Air Force. As a farewell perk, pilots who live close enough to “home” can do a fly-by of their home on their way out the door. His home happened to be just a few hundred feet from where I work, a very civilian-y area where we don’t get to see these beauties up close very often. Imagine the chaos as he deftly piloted his C-17 just a few hundred feet over the Safeway parking lot, just over the high school with those MASSIVE, loud engines. Most people were unaware of what the heck was happening. Some of his friends and I stood out on the football field to wave “hi” as he passed by.
They are very capable, tough and can handle short runways. However, bank a little too hard and you're done. It has happened several times. I think the very nimble characteristics are what led those unfortunate pilots to think they were more capable than they really were.

They had an extremely dangerous mission to air rescue in Antarctica. White out conditions 10 miles from the research facility, could not fly all the way. So, get this, they SNOWPLOWED for 10 miles and saved her.
@cdmc012599 Ever do that at Yakima? Those dirt hills above the dirt strip come up FAST . There was a watertruck on standby to wash out the vomit coming from the troops inside.
Empty/Dry planes are surprisingly maneuverable. Even Civilian airliners you see are surprisingly agile when they arent carrying all that fuel and passengers. If youve seen the 707 barrel roll or even the 777X accelerated takeoff you know what i mean. These aircraft have incredible lift characterisitcs to be able to carry such heavy loads, so when they are empty they have a ton of extra thrust and lift to pull of some pretty impressive maneuvers.
The loadmaster would have had a crap fit if they did that fully loaded. They way they are whipping the CG around like that. With a full load there is no way that aircraft would be that maneuverable. Even though it's tied down, the load doesn't behave like a solid body, and throwing the CG around on all of that load is going to cause some serious detrimental flight characteristics.
@BitwiseMobile If the cargo is tied down properly? The only thing that could change the CG enough to matter would be about 50 people rushing from one end of the plane to the other ALL AT ONCE! Or having a liquid sloshing around in an un baffled long tank! The CG Only changes with weight not being correctly loaded and tied down so it can't shift. And those planes "C17" could maneuver like that with ½ to ¾ of a full cargo area and weight load limit!

I often see these, C-130s, Chinooks, and Blackhawks doing maneuvers and air refueling near my home. I'm 44 years old now but I still look to the sky in awe.
Maneuverability. One of the reasons the Globemaster was the choice for Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT) aircraft. This portable ICU is staffed by a physician/surgeon, critical care nurse and respiratory therapist all with specialized critical care training. They fly into and out of dangerous airspace to medevac critically ill patients out of war zones. Maneuverability is required.
I was thinking the same thing! I live in central WA and two C-17's buzzed my house hugging the terrain out towards the northeast. Had to have been the same two, they were humming- fastest i've ever seen them fly outside of an airshow.

17 pilots seriously like testing their wing strength
The moment the shadow stopped moving on the plane was the dead giveaway. The planes are vfx ontop of real footage
How
Is it cuz of the camera focus
What? The shadows are moving lol. Looks plenty real.
When the first plane goes by, the shadow just behind the cockpit stops moving. Plus, the plane is turning away from the camera with minimal movement of the additional shadows at the rear of the plane. Also, check around the other comments that the video poster replied to. He admits it is not real
@@Crankshaft-cq1nd why are you lying lol. he says it's real and it looks real.
That HUMVEE was like that when they loaded it....
😂
I often see these, C-130s, Chinooks, and Blackhawks doing maneuvers and air refueling near my home. I'm 44 years old now but I still look to the sky in awe.
That’s really cool!
“Bank Angle” “Bank Angle” “Bank Angle” “Pull Up” “Pull Up”
Maneuverability.
Do they wear magnetic boots so they can work while flying like this? That'd be awesome.
Beautiful.
Very!
I bet everybody in the back was like DAMN IT! He’s doing it again!
A lot of clean up for the loadmaster
F-15 Pilot: "Your plane can't do a canyon run!"
C-17 Pilot: "You Sure about that?"
100%
I'm a trucker and think I recognize these places. It is Washington state, close to Cle Elum I90
Keep your eyes on the road pal
Yes it is
You are correct. That is I-90 just east of Snoqualmie Pass. The lake is Keechelus Lake
Yep... Driven my whole life 1000s of times
Yessir, on the sat map it shows as
Keechelus Lake, just east of Snoqualmie Pass.
Can you see it?, that’s me throwing up in a bag in the back of that thing. Ain’t no one coming out of that with a full belly 😆
😂I've gotten this comment a lot!
Nothing like eating a big meal and the stomach explodes into oblivion.
This is how I feel riding my motorcycle with a friend.
Don't we all!
Is it just me or the sounds of the camera shutters makes it like the cameraman is shooting the plane? LOL
Ratatatata

My tax dollars in action!
The planes are an eyesore, but they fly like angels
I think they look freaking cool!
I think they look beautiful 😍
It’s a muscular looking thing, with manoeuvrability so good it doesn’t fit xD like a 600 lb ballerina.
When you absolutely, positively have to have ten tons of deliveries on your driveway overnight.
Better than Amazon
I like it, and they can do it.
When you wanted F-15 fighters and got C-17 cargo transport.
Hold my beer!
All the paratroopers in the back would be like 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
For sure!
Man these video games are a step up from the ones I used to play as a kid
Yeah, you can even crash into the cars there and get arrested for terrorist activity!
Except this is real life... th-cam.com/video/zvH8h_WLS0M/w-d-xo.html
Seeing a bank angle like that on such a large aircraft is something else! Great visuals.
And how quickly it changes direction!
I've been in a C-17 doing combat maneuvers for 20 mins. It was a blast!!!!!
That’s awesome! I’m jealous
In cockpit: Warning! Warning! Pull up! Pull up!
that sure looks real ....
Because it is🤘
If you say so ...
It is I live close to there they do it all the time
I@@daveolson7639 I am sure they do but this video is fake as hell.
Tell them to turn on heat blur, it will make it look more real. This looks like Digital Combat Simulator or DCS.
Some viewers actually think this is real. Now that’s what’s amazing.
Maybe that's because... it is real😱
Long before all the cop watching snowflakes had video cameras, I've seen F-15's come screaming down a canyon over on I-90 in that area.
I mean it’s kinda weird u can’t tell what’s real 🤷♂️
It's getting real hard. Give it a couple more years and it's gonna be impossible to tell 🤯
@@trevorwert No it isnt stfu
"Your delivery is on its way."
Hahahahah the camera sounding like a mini flak gun sent me😂
I saw that a couple months ago in Washington
Could have been the same one!
I was thinking the same thing! I live in central WA and two C-17's buzzed my house hugging the terrain out towards the northeast. Had to have been the same two, they were humming- fastest i've ever seen them fly outside of an airshow.
Who needs stealth when you can fly a cargo plane below and through mountain rages. Very impressive aircraft.
C’mon! They could’ve flown much lower!
a tribesman with a good handle on RPG ballistics or a Dshk would knock it out the sky at that speed and altitude!
@@r2dterexcept for the auto deployed anti ground to air flares. You think we’d spend a few hundred billion and not give ‘er some sparks? 😂😂
@@marcuswardle3180 they can't legally fly much lower.
The sound of jets flying that fast and that low still makes my blood run cold.
It get's my blood pumping!
@@trevorwert it makes ME think of 9/11.
You just know those pilots were stoked to fly the C-17 like that instead of the flying semi-truck it usually is.
Hah! What a story!
I have seen Australian RAAF C17,s do that thru a wide canyon about 100miles west of Sydney they fly thru the canyon the noise and close up experience is awesome.
Isn't it so cool??
Ever seen the Mach Loop?
Not sure what that is but they bank pretty steeply at such low altitude with cliffs either side of them.
It’s crazy to realize I have jumped from these beasts. Definitely one of my favorite aircraft.
So you jumped out of a plane that was in a video game?
That's awesome! Thanks for your service. It's one of mine as well!
When did you realise you had jumped out of the plane?
@@ejo13 No, Sicily DZ on Fort Bragg NC, AATW!!!
@@justinnewcomb2279listen I wasn't trying to be a wiseass. I served in the Marine Corps. I was just trying to bring it to your attention that the video is from a game. Thank you for your service and for the misunderstanding.
that's so dope, nice shots on the passbys!
Appreciate it!
That's a Bingo 🎉
I vote for CGI here. No shadows except for one small spot plus, too perfect tracking on second aircraft during closeup.
This is Snoqualmie pass up here in Washington and those two Globe Masters are hangered at McCord Air Force Base. I see these airplanes taking off every single time I'm on that base. They fly directly over my house all the time as well. These military aircraft are capable of far greater than this little display.
Shadow contrast over water looks different than over land.
If you're suggesting that the C-17 isn't this maneuverable or that crews don't train for this (remember, they can be called on to air drop troops and equipment or do medical evacuations), look up "C17 star wars canyon" and you'll see footage of C17s out of Edwards Air Force base practicing aggressive maneuver in Rainbow Canyon of Death Valley national park. Unfortunately, flights through the canyon were stopped after a an F/A 18 crash killed the pilot.
Regardless of the closure, you can still find plenty of videos from when such flights were taking place.

@@Texas240That's what convinced me. The traffic on I90. I got thrown off by the camera dancing with the shutter, and at first thought it was fake because of that :). I have a Rebel and it doesn't shake when I take shots, so maybe his camera is VERY old :D.
This is real. Here is one of the photos: instagram.com/p/C0kR9-2Omzy/
