The love of his work endures through the generations. Somewhere I have a ragged, late nineteenth century copy of "Paradise Lost." Most book collectors wouldn't have given it a nanosecond of consideration due to the condition, but, I couldn't pass it by.
That’s a really cool way to decide what books to read, not just those worked on by an illustrator you really admire but also with the works he wished he could illustrate! And his work is legendary!
Thank you for this Emmelie! Dore was amazing. He was so talented and prolific. I often think that illustration is such an under appreciated art form and deserves far more recognition than it often gets. You are so blessed to have such a generous friend to get for you such a beautiful book! Happy reading!😊
The first time I got acquainted with the works of Gustave Doré was in the book "Paradise Lost" by Milton. Then I saw his works in the illustrated Bible and, of course, in the book "Don Quixote". These are real masterpieces that can be looked at for hours. Thanks for this great video!
Thank you for sharing Emmelie! Like you say Gustave Doré is a fantastic artist, underrated in my opinion. I can only agree and applaud everything you said.
OH! I remembered his name because it's so melodic, but especially because the Bible publisher, Humble Lamb, sells Bibles with his illustrations. I always wanted to see one because the quick glances I'd see onscreen were so beautiful. I have a particular love for black & white art. I did not know he worked in color as well. How I wish I could have seen his process! Thank you for giving this background on him. What a beautiful gift! In fact, I looked it up and it's reasonably priced. Maybe I will get it myself for my birthday this year.
I have always appreciated Gustave Doré's art, especially that which he illustrated for the Latin Bible. I am very glad you did a video showcasing his work! I always enjoy your thoughtful videos. God bless!
Hello Emmelie! I hope you are doing well. What a very interesting video. While I did not recall Dore name, when you showed examples of his works taken from Don Quixote and the Divine Comedy, I remembered seeing them in those books. They were great depictions. I look forward to your next video! Have a great day! 😀
Thanks for this video showcasing Gustave Doré's work. I love his illustrations. My parents own a Bible iwith his illustrations and I have heard about him a lot as a child.
Hi Emmelie! Doré was such a skilled and masterful artist at his craft! When I came across a book of illustrations about the Divine Comedy, I had to buy it. It has been sitting in my bookshelf for the past month or so, waiting for when I will go through the Divine Comedy again, to immerse myself once more in that masterpiece with the help of those wonderful illustrations by Doré. Take care, and see you next week!
@@ProseAndPetticoats I'm Scottish (from the northeast of Scotland) but was living in a northern England village before I came here. I came to walk the Camino de Santiago and hardly went back! Are you in Belgium - or have I got that wrong?

Dore captured some deep archetypal moments with his illustrations. Especially his depictions of Dante’s Divine Comedy and Milton’s Paradise Lost.

You may be interested to know that the artist/poet William Blake created wonderful illustrations for the Divine Comedy.❤

Borrowed this book inter-library loan. Really agree with your great review!
