My understanding is that the appeal / parole board voted 2 - 1 to free the British-raised ringleader. I'd like to see the rationale underpinning the majority's decision.
The problem with requesting a British national be extradited to the USA for a crime committed against an American citizen in a country other than the USA is a jurisdictional cluster of problems. The only thing the state department can do is request an appeal within Pakistani judicial system. This man was murdered and the convicted should've been executed. Extradition is out of the question. My understanding is that the appeal / parole board voted 2 - 1 to free the British-raised ringleader. I'd like to see the rationale underpinning the majority's decision.
The problem with requesting a British national be extradited to the USA for a crime committed against an American citizen in a country other than the USA is a jurisdictional cluster of problems. The only thing the state department can do is request an appeal within Pakistani judicial system. This man was murdered and the convicted should've been executed. Extradition is out of the question. What a mess! My heart goes out to the family.
