We civilians all owe journalists a great debt of gratitude.
I’m particularly grateful when a journalist is interviewing someone about their deceased loved one, and they ask the interviewee to tell them about who their loved one was when they were alive. It’s a human kindness that feels almost like I, the viewer, am also a small part of this good deed just by witnessing it. So a little bit of this person’s loved one is shared with as many people who are willing to listen.

@Tom MorningDew That's not true. E.g. El-Masri filed suit against the CIA for his arrest, extraordinary rendition and torture. In 2006, his suit El Masri v. Tenet, in which he was represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), was dismissed by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, based on the U.S. government's claiming the state secrets privilege. The ACLU said the Bush administration attempted to shield its abuses by invoking this privilege.[9] The case was also dismissed by the Appeals Court for the Fourth Circuit, and in December 2007, the United States Supreme Court declined to hear the case. On 13 December 2012, El-Masri won an Article 34 case at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. The court determined he had been tortured while held by CIA agents and ruled that Macedonia was responsible for abusing him while in the country, and knowingly transferring him to the CIA when torture was a possibility. It awarded him compensation.[10][11] This marked the first time that CIA activities against detainees was legally declared as torture.[12] The European Court condemned nations for collaborating with the United States in these secret programs.

My understanding is that the appeal / parole board voted 2 - 1 to free the British-raised ringleader. I'd like to see the rationale underpinning the majority's decision.

The problem with requesting a British national be extradited to the USA for a crime committed against an American citizen in a country other than the USA is a jurisdictional cluster of problems. The only thing the state department can do is request an appeal within Pakistani judicial system. This man was murdered and the convicted should've been executed. Extradition is out of the question. What a mess! My heart goes out to the family.

That's what our tier 1 counterterrorism teams would say, although given the order i think that's a mission they'd prefer to personally execute.
And then it makes me wonder, what the hell is the purpose of the UN judicial tribunal if for not a case just like this? Couldn't they be tried on crimes against humanity at The Hague? That's where Milosovich was tried and convicted.

@@pushing2throttles Don't expect justice, for the son of an Israeli from the UN. They are far too anti-Semitic to be impartial.
