I have my double jaw and chin surgery in two days... As a mixed race BIPOC person I'm not seeing too many videos of non-white people so I'm grateful to have found your videos just in time before my surgery! I have an underbite like yours, all tilted, bottom jaw overgrown more on one side, missing top n bottom teeth, bottom baby teeth (still at 27 years old & they're hanging on by a THREAD) etc. I'm also going to need permanent implants to replace my baby teeth and fill in my missing teeth. I'm going to watch the rest of your videos but I found you through one of your shorts first talking about 1 year post op and you look AMAZING so I'm excited to watch your journey and hope it gives me comfort and help my mental preparation for this because I am NERVOUS af. Thank you

Such a relatable video. I was scheduled for my surgery early in the pandemic, literally days after the lockdown. I took it as a sign that "God made me like this and I shouldn't change it," but i find myself wrestling w. thoughts like the fear of the surgery itself & the fact that idk how i'll look post surgery vs. the possibility of FINALLY having a smile that I'm happy & proud of. I have a gap and it's literally one of my biggest insecurities. well, i'll be watching & praying for you & your experience !

Seeing someone else with an underbite is very warming; It's not often you see us Crimson Chins walking around, so it's definitely a refresher stumbling upon one. I am getting my surgery on March 17th and I am constantly thinking about how I would look post-op. I am happy you're bringing us on your journey and I wish you nothing but the best.

I am starting my jaw journey too. It is nice to watch someone who has a lot of the same things going on with their jaw like me. I have had a lot of tmj pain too and I have had surgery done to help with it. I am definitely nervous for the rest of my journey. I was watching a lot of other people’s experiences here on TH-cam, but they made me more nervous and I kind had to stop watching them for my own sake lol. (everyone’s experience is different, but I want to remain optimistic and kick negativity to the curb because this surgery is very necessary for me) But I am glad I saw your video! Hi Kyyah,
I also have an underbite/open bite & I was putting it off for years because I couldn’t afford braces & I had a little bit of anxiety. Now that I’m in a better place financially, I decided to go through with the process of getting surgical braces. I actually just had my consultation appointment with an ortho surgeon & I was told that sometime next year, I’d be getting the double jaw surgery.
Thank you for sharing your story! It’s definitely motivating to know that there are others who are in the same boat.

I've been waiting for my surgery since April 2019, and I have finally started my braces treatment to get ready for surgery. Corona pushed back my treatment by like 6 months, which makes me sad. I should be ready for surgery in 6-7 months which is exciting. I have to worry about the cost of the surgery, hopefully, I still have insurance by the time I can meet my surgeon again. I'm actually getting double jaw surgery aswell. I'm starting to get a little nervous now as my surgery is on the 7th of June this year and although my under bite isn't the worst it something I've always been highly conscious of it. I am hopefully planning on documenting my recovery for others as that's something that really helped me make the decision. I’ve been in braces for 2 years and that hasn’t completely fixed my underbite. My jaw clicks when I chew. My face is swollen, etc. I’m hoping to get this surgery soon but my orthodontist hasn’t referred me yet.

@@chika7086 are your braces part of your journey? My braces were fitted by the my team at the hospital. I have a team of people who support the jaw process. It's available on the NHS if your bite is grade 3 or above. Under that you have to pay out of pocket or private insurance. Mine is covered. My doctor is Dr Moody who works out of London, Sussex and Hampshire. If you feel you really need surgery and not just braces from the orthodontist you should get yourself referred for a consultation and they will tell you of the surgery is right for you and any costs to yourself. The consultant on the NHS is free then you choose to either pay private or go with the NHS doctor they assign to you.

Can I ask how you got insurance to cover the surgery? I've read that insurance won't cover orthognathic surgery unless it's deemed 'medically necessary'. I have pain, clicking, tension headaches, dry mouth and some minor speech issues etc. but not sure if this would be covered!
