The pov of Winsweep when the Adult ate his friend was amazing! A quick panicking scream coming from the depths, unsure of what's happening down there, and then all of a sudden, the tips of enormous jaws snap from the abyss. And silence. Absolutely phenomenal.
41:32 that is just masterpiece of cinema! One of the group goes down out of curiosity, there's absolute darkness, then an ominous warning in a form of a growl. Out of the darkness teeth seemingly phase in decorating edges of an enormous, open maw. We hear panick and the last thing we see from perspective of the people that stayed on the walkway is massive jaws closing on their friend and just disappearing. YOU'D PUT A SCENE LIKE THAT IN A MOVIE.
I like to imagine that the poolfish are larval forms of the grandgousier, which implies that either they reproduce in the first stage of their life, or, more unsettlingly, *they can somehow climb between levels*
perhaps its more like as if poolfish from the first level fell into the layers below, then matured into an unseen nymph-like state after surviving long enough in the dark while cannibalizing other poolfish to grow larger and turned into the juveniles we see in the depths if they managed to live long enough.
The fact that, buried far beneath all of this so out of sight that you need to look at the code to see it, there's a pixelated PNG of a cucumber is very amusing.
The leviathan grandgouiser is actually terrifying. The juvenile ones are scary enough as is, but to just swim down not knowing whats there and suddenly being swallowed whole not able to escape as you're too slow, that's seriously horrifying
i like how from their perspective, specially the end where they talk about getting rid of rat permantly, they think rat is this evil mastermind but when you look at rats perspective its like "haha trap people with giant fish bc of petty"
The atmosphere of the first level being almost just a desteted island followed by level 2 dark rooms of unneverving and level 3 lowering down slowly seeing theres no walls between you and the void now
41:38 Hearing Noxintrus yell for help only to have his voice cut off by the jaws of a Leviathan Grandgousier was some actual horror movie stuff. This mod was SSS tier. Amazing work!
I absolutely LOVE the Leviathan Grandgousiers. They're just cool because of the fact that even if you do find the safe chunk, one wrong drop and you're back to square one. No escape.

Or maybe, if you feed the gousers enough poolfish, they will look for another gouser and reproduce, and you can take the 'angling' with you to the overworld
I actually love the contrast between the povs of people who know what to do and are essentially speedrunning vs the people who are trying to figure it out lol
This was the best thing you've coded. It's like a horror puzzle map. Noxintrus being eaten by the Leviathan Grandgousier and Winsweep's reaction to that was amazing

That one backrooms animation made by like a 12 year old did entities in liminal space perfectly. Dude this was just such an amazing dimension in every sense. Liminal at first and horryfying at the last level. The shaders and darkness are the best and the creatures while not obnoxious do pose a real threat that is mostly hidden
I just love the use of the name Grandgousier for the anglerfish monster. It's very fitting that the "giant monster" is named after the father of a giant in french litterature. The entire dimension is also incredible regardless of the name of the deep sea monster and I'm honestly more and more impressed by rat's mod making skills each time I watch a new video.
Well, a Grandgousier is actually a kind of Eel with a ridiculously large mouth so I'm not sure if Rat knew about the character in the book Gargantua. But it's true the fish was named after him, cause it's got a mouth so big it could swallow its whole body.
Yeah, and possibly, there are multiple of the Leviathan size/adult versions of these overgrown anglerfish, and only certain spots have not been clamed by a gigantic one and possibly after an anglerfish reaches adulthood, they replace their mother as the layoff their final eggs
The Breaking Bad theme when he changes the color scheme to yellow is the cherry on top Bro knows demon slayer, JoJo and Breaking Bad and he is addicting and has excellent commentary skills and has a tendency for chaos Doctor Rat is no doubt my fav
41:38 the silent *muach* 41:40 the roar *muach* 41:47 seeing a glimpse of the monster jaw eating Nox with the audio cut off is a massive reminder on how terrifying this map is*Muach* Fking perfect
Love the idea of End Portals taking you different places. Like it's a combo lock, can take different items, be extended in some way to modify the portal, etc. Makes me wonder if the dungeons were ever going to have different domains, because the dragon itself didn't have outer islands at first, and it was still in it's ambitious dark oldschool rpg phase.
what if you could put in different circular items (heart of sea, eye of ender, idk what else), and with different combinations it would automatically generate a morphed version of the two. Like 6 eyes of ender and 6 hearts would make an end-pool dimension with cursed creatures
Hmm. It seems they are becoming a villain to get what they want. Kidnapping a fish threatening to kill it if they don't get answers, kidnapping a person for answers. For me stealing a pet is crossing the line
Every little tiny aspect on the third level is immaculate, and almost cinematic in a way. The Leviathan Grandgousiers remind me of the Ghost leviathans in Subnautica. Made to keep players inbound, but still significant in a way. The juvenile Grandgousiers are also pretty terrifying. Sad that we can't see more of Winsweep and friend's point of view and how we barely got to see more of the Grandgousier bite the Poolfishes...
Honestly I think he should’ve added an achievement for the dimension (specifically two): One for when you fall into the dimension called “Trapped” and one for when you get out of the dimension called “Welcome Back”
@@DarkShard5728 unless rat made an extremely difficult to make/get weapon that could let you kill it pretty easily if you used pool fish to distract it or something.
@@DarkShard5728 I understand that it’s meant to be a horror themed cage, but still, an extremely rare weapon that maybe only rat has would be pretty cool to see. Maybe it can only be made after going through the dimension and looking for something that can be used in making it but there’s of course a couple-a few grandgousiers guarding it, then you have to get other extremely rare items in extremely rare places and then finally, finally the dimension can sort of be conquered.
I love how Winsweep is making a whole campaign to hunt down rat, but then rat is like "you fool! You activated my trap card" and traps him in backrooms dimension
And then Winsweep is like: "Nah, I'll still win" and escapes this dimension at cost of losing some sanity (not like he was sane before going there, for me everysingle one of this guys is just a psycho wanting to kill the other psycho)
Rat kills Noxintrus in Never End as soon as they jump in, claiming that it's for the "7 million blocks". Rat's new video starts off with him getting flung 7 million blocks past the world border(this was before he made Never End to trap them). I don't know if his banishment to the Minecraft Shadow Realm was already covered in the other member's Content SMP videos but it's a neat little thing if you ask me
My theory: Aqua Luxintrus's appearance disturbed the end making it a cursed Aqua Dimension (the place Aqua Lux lives) (its the backrooms i know i know)
His genuine panic attack from a horror in a game reminds me of when Phasmophobia was a good game and I watched a ghost murder all my friends around me every corner I ran.. I was last alive and coward in the corner next to a locker actually crying from fear/laughing as I heard the ghost stalk around trying to find me. ACTUALLY played out like a horror movie and scared me so much lol, this part of the video was perfect in the sense it played out so well, visually, audibly, and pacing wise. XD
The transition from liminal horror to thalassophobia is just genius. Jumping from level 2 to level 3, you expect to enter a really dark liminal pool space, but instead you are surprised with deep sea terror. You thought you knew sort of what to expect, *but* *you* *didn't.* EDIT: Mom, I'm famous
heya! one of the OG backrooms writers here. this is unironically some of the best liminal space content i've seen since this whole thing started. the choice to only add the one hostile mob at the end was truly excellent; you got right what so many people get so wrong. absolutely amazing stuff, i'm truly blown away!
Thank you!! Ive spent the last hour trying to remember where I have heard this from. Severely disappointed in myself for forgetting its from outer wilds hahaha
Noxintrus dying was actually straight out of Jaws. The way the grandgousier slowly opened his mouth and got closer swimming up. Then it quickly closed and Nox’s voice cut off. That was actually cinematic as hell.
This is genuinely one of the coolest Minecraft videos I have ever watched. I was so excited and surprised the whole time I was watching. I wish I could find content similar to this. Also having the beast come up from the depths of the water when you go down into the wrong chunk is incredible. I loved all of this.
Oh my god the shaders are such an amazing addition that i dont think i have ever seen in another dimension mod. You can see at 20:04 how less scary and mysterious the abyss is without them. The dimension is so scary because it doesnt feel like minecraft anymore
Something I Noticed is that Tuff Blocks and whatever he used to rep level 3 ( around 12:36, I think it's a Charcoal Block) have different hues and brightness, but similar, if not the same, textures, anyone else find this strange?
@@doctor4t I saw the giant fish and terrifying liminal spaces at the very first few seconds of the video and immediately went "yep rat is an outer wilds appreciator"
What if this liminal dimension is like an extra step to the end. Aka, somewhere in the 3rd level is some ancient artefact necesary for reaching the End.
I feel like it would have been a nice little touch that the suit DIDNT let you breathe underwater, but instead just made it take a WHILE to drown so for example youd be going around level 3 for like 40 minutes looking around, seeking for a way out etc. *And then you see one of your airbubbles pop* you just then realize your time is limited, and you can have the air bubbles pop at inconsistent rates, so the first would pop around 40 minutes in, the next would pop 20 the next would take another 30, the next an hour and so on
As soon as the anglerfish were revealed we had outer wilds vibes, and the fact that you played The Forbidden Archives as they sunk into the depths was just _perfect_
Glad I'm not the only one here, also idk if its just me but the swimming sound of the anglerfish too remind me of Outer Wilds, also the fact your comment got 408 likes(as of this comment) means there is at least like 400 other people who have played or seen outer wilds here
what I find amazing about this experience is how you threw them into that whole new dimension without warning. No wikis, no guides, no roadmap, just... jump into the portal and good luck.
Unpopular opinion: the grandgousier was scarier before sounds. Just it slowly drafting in the dark water, and if it makes a sound you know one's nearby, while if it didn't then you'd _always_ be looking over your shoulder. Maybe a nasty crunching sound for when it eats you, but prolly not idle ones
@@Keltix1991yeah, it should actually have a really pleasant sound until you're too close to get away. Maybe something players are conditioned to find comforting.
Yeah, the difference between an MTF team that knows what they are dealing with and came prepared with equipment, weapons and stuff (still scared but can come out on top) and a bunch of D-class that just were thrown to test the waters
Now that I look at it, I think it would be a great idea, if you could stuff a different thing inside of the cracked portal frame and get to other dimensions. This could take some time to make, but would be really cool!
41:25 has to be my favorite moment out of all of this. Winsweeo watches as his friend gets engorged by a being so monumnetally large you only see its jaw while youre stuck there unable to help is a crazy thing to picture. Amazing video as always
@@eldritchcupcakes3195 I believe he has them available for supporters early, and then when he eventually gets around to finishing mods he deems worth publishing, he makes them public.
This is by far the best depiction of horror in minecraft mods. it preys on the same fears cave noises generate. while modelling off of a genuinely terrifying real life thing
I was a bit worried when I saw a liminal space, but the final segment really adds the twist needed to differentiate this from the near-identical copies that have become so unfortunately prolific in the liminal genre.
I like the idea but that would tell the rest of the server that there is a place related to the abyss. This place is for the curious and the foolish. Not those lead by a leash.
Wait… Aren’t Lux and Nox… roommates? Housemates? Ain’t this gonna be a bit awkward -when- if nox gets back? “Hey dude welcome back uhhh sorry for trapping you in the watery backrooms”
I will say that this dimension is terrifying. What would make it scary is that if you re-entered, the portal would send you somewhere else, each a different location, with different levels. Can’t wait until Winsweep tries to make you go mad.
@@tomc.5704i think like, this is the first couple of levels, then after you beat it you can go to the next 3 levels, but this works for everyone, and its not randomized
The grandgousier reminds me of not only the leviathans of subnautica but also the anglerfish from Outer Wilds! Love the way it just moves in mouth wide open and in one bite just swallows you whole. Truly shows how dangerous the place is and the beast's deadliness.
@@BobbinRobbin777 Dannnng I knew heard this sound before ! I thought it may be subnautica but I knew I felt uneasy hearing this sound the first time so that couldn't be it, it had to come from that GOAT game.

"They could find out at any moment, so let's spend hours upon hours creating custom dimensions to trap them." This is essentiallly what the thought process of the beginning consisted of
the 3rd level feels like it's the movie "underwater" with the tight suits, the paths where you need to look where you walk, the giant monsters and the vast empty space of water where you can't really move fast.

Yeah, and possibly, there are multiple of the Leviathan size/adult versions of these overgrown anglerfish, and only certain spots have not been clamed by a gigantic one and possibly after an anglerfish reaches adulthood, they replace their mother as the layoff their final eggs

@@PlumbWings66768 magma cream, chorus fruit, egg, pufferfish, gapple. So modifier instead of a combo lock for dimensions or maybe both.

It's also a bit contradictory for a creature that lures its prey in with a light to be roaring and scaring people away.
