Exploring the Alba Iulia Citadel and its main places and attractions.
Alba Iulia, known as Karlsburg or Weißenburg (old medieval name) in German, or Gyulafehérvár in Hungarian is a city in Transylvania, Romania. It is the seat of the Alba County and has been throughout history one of the most important settlements in Transylvania for all of its populations - Romanians, Hungarians or Transylvanian Saxons.
During the Middle Ages, after the Ottoman conquest of Hungary, Alba Iulia served as the capital of the autonomous Principality of Transylvania.
In 1918, Alba Iulia became the Capital of the Great Union of Romania - it was where the union of Transylvania and the other western territories with Romania was proclaimed. Later, King Ferdinand I was crowned in the city in 1922.
This new walking tour is filmed on a late summer morning in 2024 and is meant to be a refresh of our very first video. The first video of Alba Carolina, with shakier footage, was filmed in July 2023. Enjoy this new more in-depth exploration of Alba Iulia Citadel one year later!
