      developing a flat chip (that thing under the blob in the middle of the PCB) takes resources, so they just change the screen and resin between models (even that is challenging and their mold design is probably on another level).
      Or maybe the engineers just wanted to have fun, there are other casio watches with unlockable features (ae 1200 iirc has some unlockable features as well)

    The reasons for disable function like that because in the same range of production of Casio watches, they use the same module so they can just code one time for all the watch, not have to write different code to each different watch model. Then in the factory is soldering follow the design. The design purposely cut off to create different feature range for each watch and it based on the LCD of the watch, so that's why.

      Excellent - yes I have been advised by a viewer and friend “RedWyvern” that there is a way to ‘keep track’ of the repeating timers, and also the multiple alarms, even without the visual indicators! Very intuitive. Here’s a link to the forum post of the instructions he wrote, if you’re interested:

  • @deips74

    Difficult to find an explanation why these functions are disabled. It is clear that the motherboard and CPU are also used in other models (I don't know which ones) and with this "system" of limitations they justify the different price. The model that uses the same motherboard with the functions unlocked, however, probably mounts a display that allows you to view the infos that are missing on the W800: for example the active status of one of the 5 alarms. Great job, very clean.

    • @goatreviews
      @goatreviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re onto it, Davide! 👌 That’s the most logical conclusion. I’d love to know which models the board is used in. As it may provide insight as to what bridging point “4” for example does, which remains a mystery. Perhaps it does enable the active status of one of the 5 alarms!
      You know, I did actually purchase a syringe of liquid “silver” paste, which can be used to temporarily bridge connections, and then easily wipe it away afterwards to return to normal (so you don’t have to commit to soldering it which is risky). Perhaps now that I know what I am doing with cracking open modules, I can try other watches (like returning to the w-217h, which I plan on opening soon 😉)
      Thank you for your insights 🙏 You never cease to amaze me with your in depth analysis of the possibilities!

    • @WyvernDotRed
      @WyvernDotRed ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My guess is that this is the watch Casio used to test a new chip, one which they seem to use in many new watches.
      E.G. the AE-1500WH behaves identically to a timer and 5 alarm modded W-800H.
      And a B640W behaves like the 1 alarm, timer and no duel time setting, with an added backlight alarm so that might be one of the unknown settings.
      For Casio it's cheaper and less error-prone to drop in the same known-good chip and to configure it with jumpers baked in the PCB, or exposed here so they can test the settings.

    I know Casio uses the same modules for multiple watches, and enable/disable certain features based on the watch. I wonder if activating all 5 alarms affects the Snooze alarm function in any way. In it's original form, it may only have 1 alarm, but that alarm can be toggled to be a Snooze alarm(an alarm that repeats every 5 minutes for about 7 times). I'm curious if all 5 alarms can be made to be a Snooze alarm, or just the first. There might be some kind of 'glitching'(unusual operation) that goes with this mod, but I wouldn't know.
    On another note, I do have a question. Does anyone know if this watch could fit into one of those SKXMod cases used for the 'Casio Royale'? They are compatible with other similarly sized watches, but nobody has confirmed nor denied if it fits the case. This watch is good enough for a case upgrade.

      To answer your question, the W800H module is not the same size as the 'Casio Royale' module. As an example of a very similar size module which is compatible, is the new WS-1700H. But even this needs some slight trimming of the face plate to fit! 😁

      Hahaha, not gonna lie, I went through a bit of a "Steak Phase"! 🥩

      @@goatreviews I can relate, i've also had a GD-350 as a cooking watch lol. That dedicated timer button is killer. I'm going through a thick cut pork chop grilling phase myself. haha
      btw, you should checkout the Rangeman GW-9400, it has a dedicated stop watch button that's really useful if you need to quickly time something. I've used it for cooking also but since its not a timer i just use it to keep track of the minutes and reset it as needed.

    If you prefer less work, you can just buy a Casio F201wa9a, which has the same price
