what napoleon did wasnt really blitzkrieg in the sense of infantry tactics of driving wedges between enemy lines and preparing encirclements, it was similar tho in his innovative artilery usage, basically have your guns really close to the enemy and blast them at point blank range (at the time artilery was usually held far away from the battlefield so they dont get captured cos they were ridiculously expensive)
I very much know the feeling of being overwhelmed and simply impressed imagining how past battles went down. This exact feeling is why I started to study History in Aachen a couple of years ago.
What I was wondering from your commentary is how Germans remember ancestors that fought first with Napoleon then against him. My great grandfather I believe was discouraged from joining his brother in the Union Army or cavalry regiment because he had two young daughters and a wife who's mother had lost a teenage older brother in the Napoleonic wars in 1813. Since he died two months after the battle of Leipzig, it is unknown if it was from a weakened condition due to disease or a wound or a prolonged condition from an earlier year. The vague information that was handed down seems to indicate that another relative may have been involved we have no record of. When Tracing back ancestors, sometimes actions make more sense when all the family members are considered.
Oversimplified is truly a good channel but at the end of the day when it comes to Napoleon content. Epic TV beat’s all. They may be long but truly a worthy watch and objective.

If you guys are really interested in the warfare of the 18th and 19th century, especialy the Napoleonic wars or more precisely how the british under Wellington managed to defeat him slowly but surely I highly recommend you to read the novel serie ''Sharpe'' by Bernard Cornwell. It's about a british soldier called Richard Sharpe who starts as a private and climbs up the ranks. You learn a lot of the different nations warfare and about some historical battles (of course slightly modified to fit the main character). By the way Bernard Cornwell also wrote a lot of other great books and novel series, like the saxon/ Uthred saga, on which the Netflix series The Last Kingdom is based. So yeah read those books.

I hate how the treaty at the end of the napoleonic war was so fair but the treaty of versailles was so harsh and still people dont compare the two but still say its not harsh
It is a common misconception, the Versailles treaty was not harsh at all toward Germany. Germany got treated way more harsher after WW2.

The video could also be called "German reacts to twitch chat"
True
Tommy should watch Epic History TV, they did a whole series on the Napoleonic wars that goes into a lot more depth, and is a lot more dramatic and epic, its also long but you just do one video at the start of the stream and its all g. The series is a 10/10 some of the best content on YT he needs to see it.
Also Oversimplified pretty blatantly coped Epic History TV's videos. Some lines and phrasing are nearly identical.
I really love Tommy, but he talks way too much while the video is playing. He often miss jokes and important informations. That's kinda annoying and sad. He should always stop the video if he wants to talk about something
Exactly, I don't get it, he's really frustrating
Yeah
True
When you’re French and know more about Frederick The Great than the average German. Seriously wtf ?!
That's just because you're a simp for Germany.
@@Thematic2177 Not really, I simp for France a lot more, I just think that the word kaiser sounded cool. Other than that I don’t really give a shit about Germany.
We don't make paintings for War because the opinion of War has changed from "War is glorious and should be celebrated" to "War is hell and nobody should have to go through that"
Imagine when we die we can watch anything that ever happened would be so cool
Is like saying you wanna die cuz you can see what happened in history
They actually annexed a lot from France (the early conquests of the Republic), some earlier peace treaty proposed to Napoleon would have actually let him keep more territories. But he chose to keep fighting, and got the worst deal.
I don't think the allies could really take more from France. France also had to give a lot of money.
i hate how tommy did not react at all to Napoleon losing 500 - 600 thousand men because of attrition, he didnt notice it at all.
french when there was an napoleon:*STRONG*
when french has no napoleon:
*sob*
Napoleons tactics are the early version of blitzkrieg
16:07 I don't know if anyone already told you who that is or if you will even see this, but that is Robert Walpole, the first British Prime Minister serving from 1721 until he resigned in 1742.
it was the spanish fighting napoleon who invented the guerilla warfare
what napoleon did wasnt really blitzkrieg in the sense of infantry tactics of driving wedges between enemy lines and preparing encirclements, it was similar tho in his innovative artilery usage, basically have your guns really close to the enemy and blast them at point blank range (at the time artilery was usually held far away from the battlefield so they dont get captured cos they were ridiculously expensive)
Epic History TV did an absolutely fantastic series on Napoleon if you wanna react to that as well.
I very much know the feeling of being overwhelmed and simply impressed imagining how past battles went down. This exact feeling is why I started to study History in Aachen a couple of years ago.
Last time i was this early Napoleon just put down the uprising in touloun.
"What are the stats of Napoleon..." The best general in history.
Oversimplified is truly a good channel but at the end of the day when it comes to Napoleon content. Epic TV beat’s all. They may be long but truly a worthy watch and objective.
I like how you conveniently cut out the part where Tommy went insane on chat when they couldn’t explain the raid on Copenhagen.
ye not good to see
At this point i love watching tommy watching oversimplified more than just watching it alone😁
would recommend learning about Lord Thomas Cochrane, such an interesting life and managed to achieve a lot
>Watches a video about the Napoleonic Wars
"Duke of Wellington? I don't know who that is"
They don’t make movies on people like admiral Nelson because the movie would lack diversity.
Have Nelson be played by a Vietnamese dude
"Lack diversity" So what if it's an all-white cast? The only people who give a crap are SJW's, and for all intents and purposes they matter to nothing.
They would make some of them randomly gay.
It's awesome that everyone is interested in history now because of oversimplified
I’ve been looking forward to this!
You should watch the Epic History series of the Napoleonic Wars. His videos mainly focuses on the battles Napoleon fought. From Toulon to Waterloo.
From Toulon to Waterloo, except the two campaigns of Italy and the campaign of Egypt unfortunately.
@@lahire4943 if only.
14:55 idk why I'm commenting on a 2yr old video but Hitler famously studied Napoleon and was inspired by his tactics, influencing the blitzkrieg greatly
I hate how the treaty at the end of the napoleonic war was so fair but the treaty of versailles was so harsh and still people dont compare the two but still say its not harsh
It is a common misconception, the Versailles treaty was not harsh at all toward Germany. In fact, it gave Germany time to pay back the debt of war, kept its unity, its industry, was neither invaded nor occupied, and was spared the symbolic submission with a capture of Berlin. Germany got treated way more harsher after WW2.
An hour of tommykay I gotta bring my popcorn and coke
visited the hms victory in portsmouth (including the admiral's uniform of nelson, bloody in which he died) and it was remarkable, though you could only visit certain parts and the roof of the decks was like 1,60m above the floor, but maybe the sailors back then were a lot smaller
The more I read chat the more braincells I lose.
at 14:11 the russians were under the command of probably the only general who was napoleon's equal at the time; suvorov
thankfully for napoleon and unfortunately for the russians he died shortly thereafter
but i'm pretty sure he never lost a battle, something not even napoleon could say
Imagine you're in school and some guy with a way more detailed face and a military uniform is there
Scipio Africanus vs Hannibal Barca docu. On YT, very good. Also, basically anything on Julius Caesar (the man who Napoleon tried to immitate)
I love how we Brits take such pride in defeating Napoleon and we only fought 1 battle against Napoleon in 7 wars.
1. This isn't true.
2. You are severely discounting the effect of the blockade of nearly two decades.
3. Without UK finance Napoleon wins.
@@sld1776 I was talking about the military side of it and by military I mean land armies.
@@lordbonney9779 And I'm telling you, what you thought isn't true. Even if you only count the battles, why don't you count the battles at sea? Or the whole war in Spain and Portugal that bled France?
@@sld1776 in the Liberian region we never fought Napoleon, we fought his Generals.
May I reiterate my point. We, Brits, only fought NAPOLEON, as in the man, once at Waterloo.
The brits arent proud of beating napoleon . They cant be.
Prussia was the buffer state that stopped the Russian bear, Prussian capitulating probably gave Russia it's only real chance to get close enough to nepoleon without the risk of his classic supply cutting attacks
Facts: Waterloo was a German victory, with the British assisting.
British victory*
There's napoleon film called Waterloo it is one of the greatest historical war film of all time about napoleon wars
im sorry but how did Tommy manage to miss the majority of the jokes
Narrator: Starts talking about an intricate and compelling battle plan of Napoleon's
Dommy: SO ANYWAYS IN A WEIRD WAY IT'S A LOT LIKE (x-event in history) IF U RLY THINK ABOOT IT
I salute the editor Tommy wasn't interested in making this at all watchable.
51:56 we have auch re-enactments in a small town near Berlin and as a kid I was furious that no one played dead and only one man was acting wounded.
The bombing of Copenhagen, properly the first terrorist attack by the British along with the eradication of Danish people in England.
I have had the honour to walk upon the HMS Victory. It was a lovely experience.
Epic history tv's napoleonic wars series is also worth a look
Fun fact: The coronation of Napoleon's brother as King of Spain began the Independence movements in America from Spain. Mexico wanted to become Independent to wait for the return of Fernando VII, then the leaders were killed and the focus changed.
Tommy: Watches a video that culminates in the Duke of Wellington trouncing Napoleon
also Tommy: Duke of Wellington? I don't know who that is.
Actually, Summer in Russia can be scorching sometimes, because is way inside the continent, but for the same reason, it's winters are a freezing hell, greetings from Chile.
