  • Hello! In this video I go over all the details of how to photograph an air show while out at the Fort Lauderdale Air Show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida so you can get a good view of what gear I like to bring, what settings I like to use, and how I manage all the photos while out photographing the event!
Hope you enjoy! Leave a comment if you have any questions!
Note: none of the gear mentioned in this video is sponsored - I bought and paid for it all myself.
    No copyrighted music either!

Great information! I have a pass for the photo pit at the Atlanta Airshow in October so this is going to help a lot. Thanks!

We went on Friday for practice day, which was great because the USAF Thunderbirds practiced twice, plus everyone else also practiced once. We parked right on A1A at a metered space, but we did not have to walk, until I figured out show center was way north from the drop off zone. We figured out that the USAF Thunderbirds Deck Boss team were on a big Blue and White Ship that had a big white crane on the back with a US flag flying on it, that you show in your video @25.26. Maybe they moved show center (the blue boat) for the actual show closer to you? Anyways to fight that harsh light I put on a CPL filter and that works wonders when I shoot airshows using my Nikkor z 180-600mm and my Nikon Z8 body. I kept it light, a carry that combo, 3 batteries and 2 CF type B cards of 512GB a piece. Between videos and stills at the end of the day at home, I backed up a little over 8000 images and about 10 short videos into my computer using one CF card and a 1/3 of the other. Used up 2 batteries and had 90% left on the third battery. (If anyone is interested as to the memory CF usage and battery consumption using a Nikon Z8.)

Thank for your insights. I've photographed a variety of motor sports. Attending my first airshow at the Gold Coast, Qld Australia in 2 days so having to reset my mind set. 🐯

Really love your amazing TH-cam channel! I got the R5 with the Sigma 60-600. Can you please do a video about camera settings? Like AF method, case 1 or 2, etc ?

I used to shoot AS in the 80's and 90's with film out here in Cali and did not have to pay as long as I went to military shows. After all we pay for it with our taxes right? I stopped after I got my camera stolen and didn't bother to replace. After I retired I picked up photography as a hobby and went to my local JC and took classes in photog. I decided to check out the AS scene and found out that the military bases were charging for entrance to shows. Kinda bummed about it. But not all bases are charging. Good vids, and keep the info flowing.

  • @jamesgjurovich7893

how long does it take to offload the big card?

  • @jamesgjurovich7893

Did you have to pay to get in? Probably as it's not on a military installation.

  • @jamesgjurovich7893

  • @jamesgjurovich7893

Those glasses are very off putting. Perhaps consider some without the tinted mirror effect.
