I need something like this, but those steps aren’t wide enough. Plus it needs a tall handle to grab onto.

What make is your truck? I have a 2018 F150, and the access panel is a lighter gauge aluminum than the rest of the tailgate. I'm concerned about the holding power of the lighter weight aluminum.

Did you have trouble with the tailgate cable being in the way of the front rocker arm?

I also have a 2019 Ram 3500 dually. Was wondering about drilling into the tail gate. Didn't want to hit the backup camera line or the electric tailgate lock cable. Looks like you did a great job. That ladder is what this 66 year old needs.
