I had heard this lovely song only once before when I was 11 years old, in a school play but I never forgot it. It struck a chord within me and now 70 years later I thought of it again and mow I can thank you for giving me the chance to hear it again.
THIS WAS MY MOTHER'S FAVOURITE SONG SHE PASSED AWAY 1979 I PLAY THIS VERSION ALMOST EVERY DAY, ANN BREEN HAS A WONDERFUL VOICE AND DOES THE SONG JUSTICE.. I AM 85 YEARS OLD.AND LOVE THE OLDIES. THANK YOU.
I am so sorry to read the comments and know of your great loss my friend. You are correct that grief has no time limit. We lost our daughter and 8 & 6 year old granddaughters three and a half years ago and we grieve for them every day.
I really wish there was a digital copy of this concert. I don't have a cd player or the cd bit have previously owned it. Such a shame it hasn't been made digital :( I used to listen to the whole cd a lot
Is there a better version of this it sounds awful. This was my fave song I used to listen to at my Nan and grandads house when I was about 5. I'm now 33 and both grandparents have passed. This song brings back so many memories for me 🙌
Sooo sweet, so sweet John !! Sweet , tender and so romantic ! Thanks, dear friend, and thanks to you Phoneypharaoh .... " He stood there and gazed on that picture And slumbering forgetting all pain For there in that mansion of fancy She stood by his side again His lips then softly murmured The name of his once sweet bride With his eyes fixed on that picture He awoke from his sleep and he cried"
If those lips could only speak If those eyes could only see If those beautiful golden tresses We’re here in reality Could I only take your hand As I did when you told my name But it’s only a beautiful picture In a beautiful golden frame It stood in a beautiful mansion Surrounded by riches untold And he gazed at the beautiful picture That hung in a frame of gold Was the picture of a lady So beautiful young and fair To this beautiful life-like vision He murmured in self-despair He stood there and gazed on that picture Then stumbling forgetting all pain For there in that mansion in fancy She stood by his side again His lips softly murmured The name of his once sweet bride With his eyes fixed on that picture He walked from his dream and cried
After my beautiful wife of 44 years took a med that reversed itself in her brain she poured gas onto herself and took her life. I miss her so. I often just set and hold her picture.

If those lips could only speak
If those eyes could only see
If those beautiful golden tresses
We’re here in reality
Could I only take your hand
As I did when you told my name
But it’s only a beautiful picture
In a beautiful golden frame
It stood in a beautiful mansion
Surrounded by riches untold
And he gazed at the beautiful picture
That hung in a frame of gold
Was the picture of a lady
So beautiful young and fair
To this beautiful life-like vision
He murmured in self-despair
He stood there and gazed on that picture
Then stumbling forgetting all pain
For there in that mansion in fancy
She stood by his side again
His lips softly murmured
The name of his once sweet bride
With his eyes fixed on that picture
He walked from his dream and cried
