Congress considers mandatory military draft for both men and women

- The United States Congress is considering legislation that would update the military draft process by automatically registering men for the draft on their 18th birthday. The legislation could also require women to enter the military draft.
The legislation is currently making its way through the House and Senate but has a very slim chance of becoming law.

Mines insomnia, depression, anxiety, social anxiety, low blood pressure, ocd tendencies (but no official diagnosis just mentioned as something they see from me by a couple different doctors/counselor one of them being completely unsolicited and not what i was there for but whatever) mild disassociation in stressful situations like meeting more that 3 ppl at a time, noise sensitivity, gerd, nausea due to motion sickness, stress, lack of sleep, lack of food, too much food but then if im feeling nauseated then i cant eat. I also dont fulfill the weight limit anyways. I cant even donate blood.

Think you are misunderstanding. An automatic draft would mean all 18-25 aged males will automatically be registered for the draft instead of having having to manually draft one self. Now, every male of age has a chance of being drafted. Wealth and race will not factor into being drafted.

@@Weakestlink437 if required to register with Selective Service, failure to register is a felony punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or 5 years imprisonment. Or a combination of the two. Its federal law. A person can't simply say no I dont want to without legal consequences.

Volunteer or mercenary forces operate off of money. With national deficits skyrocketing, the draft exists as a backup when the volunteer force is no longer viable.
If the citizenry can't be bothered to protect their homelands, then their nation and the principles it was founded upon ceases to exist.
Roman and Greek empires fell to the barbarians when they couldn't afford to pay for their services as their city-states collapsed.

Is no one actually going to comment on the reason why they are doing this? I see a lot of comments talking about stuff like "cant draft me" but fail to realize what this means. They wouldn't update the draft system if they weren't going to do something with it. This is clearly a sign.

This is ONLY automatic registration for the Selective Service System (SSS), this is not and never has been the / a draft. In the US you are (and have been for many, many, years) required (by law) to register for the SSS within 30 days of your 18th birthday. This is not a new requirement, but more and more people are failing to do so. The process being considered now would automate this SSS registration. And they are considering adding females to the already existing SSS requirement. This concept (females and the SSS) has come around many times in the past, and will, in my opinion, be a requirement eventually.

I watched articles of homeless vets those who served in the military. America keep having wars to protect their interests. Throughout the years under the notion u are serving your country. Why as of now would the government want to make drafting mandatory? Could the government even handle the backlashes if more n more vers suffer from ptsd? The way i see it there are many ways to serve the country rather than having troops being deployed to war torn countries .

I think it's good. Every able body should join regardless. All this walking around being proud to be an American, being privileged b.s., its my country b.s., but not welling to die for these same values or benefits. Most people just want to inherent the upside as long as someone else pays the price for it. At 18, it should be mandatory to join the service for at least 1 full term. NO EXCEPTIONS! Dont care about the wooden or the golden spoon in your mouth. If you claim here, you should fight for here. I just pray that what we all fight for is just and fair. I got drafted when I was 18. I didn't fill out the paperwork.
