- We are going on year 3 of attempting to let our homestead pay for itself. This year I tried something totally different, it's been a great change of pace for us and the consumers!

As an OG homesteader and hustler I can chime in and sound like a fortune cookie and say this.. You DONT need 1 thing that makes $60k p/year.. You NEED 60 things that make $1000.. That said your time is limited so make money doing things that your already doing.. If you are canning green beans for your pantry then can some extra and sell them.. Grow animals but remember that they are worth more in a bag then they are on the hoof

I really like the idea of doing a small scale CSA box.
Something to consider is Add on items. It doesn't necessarily have to be food items.
1. Extra meat
2. Home made items:
- cheese
- dairy
- soap
- craft items
- wine

Love it. When I was a young stay at home mom I was constantly trying to think of things to raise money for our family while kids were in school. I did a bunch of stuff, all legal of course!😂. LOVE your channel, gave your info to my mom to watch.❤

Our church give food boxes away every month with a letter in their boxes. It has a Bible verse and a recipe for them with what food they have.
Love Love the Channel! I've got a few years on y'all, but I grew up here in the south also on a small homestead right beside my grandparent's. We all raised big gardens to feed our family's, bought a few cattle and pig's in the spring, dispatched them in the fall for meat. Daddy worked a full time job, and would work all morning or evening picking and bringing in the gardens, while us kids helped and shelled beans, or shucked corn for hours under a shade tree. Then momma and mawmaw
would cann all summer long as things came in. Watching you and your family, reminds me of my wonderful childhood and how hard my momma and daddy, and grandparent's worked to keep all of us fed. Your so right on how much people are spoiled now days,, and have no idea on how to do the things it takes to a self sustained life.. I hope you have great success on your farm and channel. God bless.

I raise feeder pigs, goat kids, and baby chicks. All produce is for home use as I am a one man show. I would love to do what you are doing, but I cannot commit to picking the produce when someone is due for it. My gardens are planned, planted and harvested batches. so I offset some of the farm cost with the livestock. If I could clone myself, I’d definitely do the produce boxes. Although another me walking this earth might not be such a good idea.😂😂😂
I understand that! Unfortunately my situation has changed a little since last year, the boxes were great for us and the community, but due to some unforeseen circumstances this year I decided not to do them because then I would also have to clone myself haha! Thanks for watching my friend!

Your boxes look great,,,, you could add pickles and an occasional jar of veggies. In the fall,, you could do bread and home made jelly!!!! Or cookies etc!!! Every once in a while,,add a small baked good,,, like a sample and this fall you can offer that to them. Home made pies!!!! I enjoy your videos!!!!!!

Do they take the product out of the box and leave it? Or do they exchange one box for another? How are you doing that part?
I'm trying to keep them coming, it comes and goes lol Yes we do a box exchange, they bring back their empty box for another. They also return egg cartons. Everyone agreed to a certain set of rules before we started, one being a box fee if they are not returned, so that way everyone brings them back and we can keep reusing!

Great idea Megan. I'm homesteading and researching ways to bring in extra income. I will definitely implement the veggie and egg boxes. I currently sell my eggs for $8 a dozen. How much are your boxes and what state are you in? ♥️
The veggie boxes worked out really well this past summer and I plan on doing it again this upcoming summer, it was great having a constant stream of income. The boxes were $32, I'm in NC. They will be a little more this year, but I haven't quite decided on a price for everything yet. That's awesome you can get $8/dozen for eggs, I sell mine for $5 here. Thanks for watching!

I live in a very affluent area with lots of disposable income so they happily pay the $8 for a Baker's dozen. I also lay them on a pillar of hay as my signature. I wish you continued success. Please subscribe to my channel. I haven't recorded any updates on my garden for over a month because we got hit hard by the Artic Blast followed by over a month of flooded so my gardens suffered. I'm starting over. That's just one of the pitfalls of homesteading.

I had all intentions of doing it again this year, because it really went GREAT last year, but unfortunately due to some life circumstances we weren't able to plant the excess produce we normally do or run meat birds this spring. I'm hoping to get this back up and going next year tho! Thanks for watching!

❤Meagan, I’m not a homesteader or farmer but I love watching and learning. If I were younger and not so physically worn down I would love to have a little place in the country. I’m about 90 miles from the Smokies so I, too, am in the Appalachians. I so love the mountains! ⛰️ I am not aware of what CSA Boxes are. The boxes you prepared for your priority customers were really nice and colorful. Since I found true Grit just a few months back I haven’t heard you mention the boxes, however it has been winter. Are you going to do them this year? Did it end up being financially lucrative for you? Are you still in the market for money making ideas that work for you? ❤🙏🏻
This worked so great honestly, yes financially it was well worth it. However due to life circumstances and things behind the scenes I was only able to do them for that one year. I’d love to start them back, maybe one day.
