30 years ago in my 20s I used to solo camp. Now, lack of fitness and concern over knee injury is stopping me getting back into one of life's most nourishing activities. Your channel is just what I need.
Aww thank you! I wish you well getting back out there!! 😀
A canoe trip might be an enjoyable option. ✌🏼
This video has a lot of excellent advice for anyone contemplating their first venture into the bush, either for a day walk or an overnight hike. One thing to add for the beginner when looking at options for their walk is to scan for circuit walks as they simplify the logistics.
Thank you :) oh yes there is always a mini celebration when walks are circuit walks!
It's hard not to hit the like button, since you are always such a charming, gentle, and fun person 😊
I appreciate your kind words! hehe 🙂
I don’t go anywhere now without my Garmin InReach mini 2, you just never know what could go wrong and having that button is reassuring.
Also you reminded me, I need to watch some previous vids about some of your food options. You and Kate Grarock should meet up on hiking food options!
Thanks for a great video, I love how you emphasise that you don't need all the newest bells and whistles to get out and hike. Cheers, Dan.
Thanks! I'll be heading off next month!!
Hi Hayley, thank you for another great video. You’re a fantastic ambassador for this sport. Take care!
Aww thank you! Have a lovely week! 😀
Love your content so much. I put your badge on my scout uniform and I get a lot of comments on how cool it is.
That is so awesome to know!! I hope that one day i'll be hiking and see some badges in person!
I've done plenty of day hikes and a couple of overnighters but I'm planning on taking a few mates up to Feathertop later in the year once we're all done with the uni semester for their first overnigher and my first overnighter in the High Country. Plenty of great information here and in your video of Feathertop which was the initial inspiration to take them up there. Thanks Hayley!!
Yay! Breaking Feathertop into an overnighter makes it much more relaxing. It sounds like you are going to wow them into their first overnight hike! Thank you for watching :)
Still an interesting, useful vid 👍
You are delightful and I am finding your videos so helpful. 😊 Thank you
Great information and video. 👍The hiking journey begins with a single step.
You are so very right! Thank you for watching :)
Another top video. 🎉
Thank you Ian! 😁

Thank you so much! 🙂
Planning my first now!

Hi Hayley, I noticed that you have got yourself a Hyperlite Mountain Gear pack which is much lighter than your previous Black Wolf one. I live in New Zealand and have been wondering about getting one of the hyperlite packs. How do you find it in terms of abrasion resistance in the bush? I quite like the Gossamer gear packs but they seem a bit delicate for NZ conditions.
Thanks for your great content. I have done the Routeburn multiple times but your vlog made me want to do it again.........
Cheers, Aileen
Hi Aileen, I certainly love my Hyperlite pack! It seems to be holding up perfect here in NZ. Although I will say i've really only done more of the maintained trails here (ie the great walks and some other popular overnighters) so I haven't really had to do much bush bashing. You'll also notice that my pack is the one that kind of has a 'real' front pocket not made from mesh so I think that helps too. But so far so good!
Thank you for watching haha you might just have to go for a hatrick for hiking the Routeburn! :)
What if you are attacked by bilbies?
😂 What if the bilbies decide to take over the world? :O
@@settohike I for one welcome out bilby overlords
You are so cute!!!!!
