    Most thorough review from a bloke who knows his stuff, not fluffy but entertainingly technical.

    I’m not the customer for this sailboat, but Theo, my man, that was a masterclass in presentation. I am so impressed with how much you were able to convey in an authoritative and entertaining way. I love the explanations, pros, cons, alternatives, etc. Really solid review! More! More! More!

    Good review! Just wanted to say that I appreciate having a cameraman as it makes it much easier to judge the dimensions of the boat with the reviewer in frame.

    The head was one of the most impressive I have seen, and Hanse has put a lot of effort into the sailing performance. The interior has not received the same attention, but as you said, it's balanced, and you have to make some trade-offs as a builder. As always, this is a very thorough and professional review of the boat. Cheers.

    The boat is a great setup, the interior needs a bit of a homely touch, a couple of beanbags would probably sort that. I'd probably get rid of the chart table, it's so small and just use the saloon or galley.
    Boats only need one heads! At this size anyway. I will die on this hill!

    The presenter is doing a great job but the camera should better show what is being presented especially the various lockers/storage spaces. For example I now have absolutely no idea about the three cockpit lockers.

    Nice review! Is the matrix bonding to the hull done only by adhesive or is the matrix connected with fiberglass to the hull?

    The aft cabin gave me instant claustrophobia, to have the coach roof that close the my face and how does one even get into that bed? I would strip out all the furniture and turn it into storage or a work room, maybe add a washing machine and expand the head. The chart table is redundant and saloon seats need to be wider. Great value compared to a holiday cottage though.

    • @atakd

      It's not a simple answer. Boats are generally good at sea, good in port or a compromise. . This Hanse is very much aimed at comfort in port with lots of space and not too much sailing clutter in the way. At the opposite end is something like. a Vancouver 34 which is cramped and slow but comfortable(ish) in big seas and very solidly built. In between there is the Hallberg Rassy 372 which is solid, slightly slower than the Hanse but fairly spacious. It also costs at least twice as much. If you plan to scuttle across oceans in the best available weather then spend months near land then the Hanse is OK, just. It's worth looking at Sailing Florence on TH-cam for an idea of a relatively cheap, solid boat for long distances. Remember they were both experienced sailors before they set off and that counts for a lot more than boat choice.

    A few things about the battery setup. I'm not sure how I feel about the starter using what looks like a cheap ratchet strap to hold it in place. I like the idea of ease of release without tools, but maybe they could have done a bit with a toggle or cam-over tightener instead. The big thing is why lead acid batteries in this day and age? We have so much better available, and if you wanted to change to lithium you'd need to swap out all their charging electronics. Lead acid is heavy, toxic, low capacity, and low output. Do better guys.
    That aside, I'm actually surprised by the price. I feel like these days I'm always seeing walkthroughs of million plus boats, so seeing one that's relatively affordable is nice. Was not expecting sub 200k base price.

    • @otm646

      I'm a marine diesel specialist with a focus in marine electronics, specifically solar. There are only a couple LiFePo4 batteries on the market rated for engine start current requirements. Yanmar does not have an approved lithium chemistry battery yet for this application. Mercury has published specs. With a few of my race boat customers that are extraordinarily weight sensitive I've used the Ionics but it's not a straight drop in. You really need a Wakespeed or similar alternator controller.
      For a cruising boat, especially a boat this size old school lead acid AGMs get you a long way. You're not scaring away customers with lithium, any customers that we're going to upgrade to lithium are going to do it anyway and you get to shave a few thousand dollars plus a huge amount of engineering validation off the price.

    • @Tb0n3
      @Tb0n3 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@otm646 you don't really need to have lithium starter as well as house batteries. You can have lead acid starter batteries if you want. Lots of lithium batteries with 200 plus amp ratings at 12.8 volts which should get you 2500 w to the starter with no problem from one battery. And there's no reason to run 12 volts. You can run a 48 volt system and then just have a converter for small 12 volt appliances that you can't get for 48 volt or 120 AC. A 48 volt battery at 200 amps would get you 10 kW starting power safely. Like I said, lithium should be the standard particularly for house batteries because you can draw them all the way down and they have a much longer lifespan as well as a much higher peak output.

    • @Tb0n3
      @Tb0n3 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The difference between cranking amps and continually rated output from a lithium battery is the lithium can do it till it's dead just fine but the lead battery can only give you so much. Lots of lithium also has a much higher 30 to 60 second output.

    • @otm646
      @otm646 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Tb0n3This is where reality hits. You try to crank that engine over with a Relion or Victron battery and the BMS is going to give up. That was the whole purpose of my statement, there were only one or two brands that have a BMS which can sustain the starting current requirements.
      I've had multiple customers learn this the hard way. That's how they got a hold of me and I had to re-engineer the system from the ground up.
      Outside of race boat applications, I really don't think you need or want a LiFePo4 start battery.

    • @otm646
      @otm646 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Tb0n3I'm speaking from experience here. This is what I do every single day. You can't even start a a smaller Yanmar 3YM on a 2500 W peak output. It is a 1000 W rated starter, you pull over 400 amps momentarily. I've logged all of this with my Fluke scopemeter.

    7.8t/8t for a 10.60m LOA hull is insane...the hull and deck is fully monolithic? with 16tws any cfd designed hull can sail in a straight line at hull speed...so giving merits on that account i dont think it counts.
