Back in the 90s, I had a LAG guitar with blue burst snakeskin finish. I regret it so much, that I sold it years ago, oh man ! It was a fantastic sounding and great playable instrument.
I found a Lag on a used rack at my local music store. Never heard of them before. It was only $99. With a $200 set of Seymour Duncan pick ups in it. It bought it right away for the Duncans, but when I got home and played it a bit, I decided to keep it on the rack. I still play it from time to time.. It sounds great and feels good! I'm gonna have to play her today.. thanks bud!
You are completly right, it's a shame Lag stopped electric production!! As a french, proud owner of a Rockline from 97 I'm so disappointed they just kept building acoustic... All their models like Rockline, Roxane, Arkane and so on where pure little gems!! You can find them at bargain price here in France on the used market, I remember paying 1300$ for my guitar in 1997 and today you can afford it for less than 500 bucks!! If you love good 90's shredding guitars, those Lag are for you😊
I’m the proud owner of a Lag Roxanne standard black (with two n) of 2002. Handmade in France. It was my first electric. Bought it aftermarket 600€. Best guitar I still own.
I bought a Lag Jet (lower spec than yours) on a whim on holiday about 15 (?) years ago. I think I paid £220 for it. Fabulous guitar, it plays really well and is not too heavy. Some years later I saw another one in a pawn shop for £40 and snapped it up as a spare. Both are really good instruments. The body shape is vaguely reminiscent of Brian May's Red Special.
I still have my trusty LÂG The Beast (a super strat with Floyd, reversed headstock, DiMarzio’s, scalloped frets from 19-22 and a rounded heel). A resonate, fantastic player.
My friend Jay Jaxson is a singer / acoustic guitarist from Australia and the owner of LAG saw her playing a gig in France, he really like her and offered her a sponsorship. She ended up getting a top quality LAG acoustic guitar custom made for free!
Nice. Your videos are very cool. In almost 40 years of playing guitar and doing tech work locally, I've never heard of LAG. Very cool guitar. I'm definitely going to have to check them out. You will for sure get my support in the reverb link if I see one that I like. Keep up the great work man. 🍻
I bought mine in 2010. I've got a cheaper version - Jet-100. With full maple neck and alder body. Black with cream-white pickguard. I'd like to point out things that drove the price down (around $250-300): no fancy tuners, no fancy pickups (with push-pull tho) and somewhat flimsy parts. But I love its tone (I'm more into heavy-psychedelic-bluesy music) and its look to this day. And I describe my guitar as follows: a blend of strat and danelectro bodies and a rickenbackeresque head. Marvellous and cheap. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it. And bought the next day.
I have an Alvarez Villain AEV-425 in red metallic with a Modulus Graphite Neck, Kahler bridge and locking nut. I also installed locking tuners for re-string convenience. The neck plays as smooth as butter and is super stable. It is never out of tune or intonation. It is too bad they quit making electrics. They were doing great things. But they lost out to the big brands.
Requiem of a Lag! That is terrible! I adore that guitar and I'm finding one. LOL seriously, like it was designed for me... Wow. C'Mon LAG!!! WTF?!!! Cheers Brother! Love your content.
These pretty much went the same path Godin did. I bought a Lag Arkane and it had killer specs. Duncan Designed pickups which were basically a Jazz/JB. It reminded me of Godin's Redline series. Unfortunately by the time they made their way through distributors, ie. Musicians Friend and Sam Ash here in the states, they were so badly battered through shipping/mishandling, nobody thought they were any good
Back in the eighties I ordered a RR style handmade to my specs guitar. I still have it and will never get rid of it. A beauty in all regards. Tone, playability, finish, just awesome. 30 years later i bought a used LAG superstrat, one of their import, lower end models. Also a very nice guitar, plays like a charm even though it's a cheapo. Too bad they went full acoustic although those are fantastic instruments as well.
The Auto-Trim tuners were conceived and designed by Ned Steinberger and first mass-produced by d'Addario under the brand name "Planet Waves" that was phased out recently.
I didn’t know they made electrics as well. I bought a LAG acoustic last year and the sound and build quiality is really good. After trying like 10 brands in the store, I liked the LAG the best. But I know nothing about acoustic, so who knows
I only play acoustic, and I love Lag guitars. I recommend them to everyone! I don't think you'll get any other guitar of their quality for anything less than double the price of a Lag.
I would have been drawn to this had I seen it. I have two LAG electric guitars. The no pickguard strat style. Got each one well under $100 brand new on a blowout sale. They're nice guitars. I use them live.
I lived in France in the early 'noughties' and, understandably, the LAG brand was much more prominent there and I'd see them in most local music shops. You would often see French artistes playing them on TV shows. I'd read that some of the less expensive models were being manufactured in the far East (as with many guitar brands). I hadn't picked up that LAG stopped making electrics completely. That's a shame.
My mate had a french hand made lag electric, it was a kind of PRS style with a quilt top, set neck, coil splits, nice inlays, binding etc ... the thing was amazing to play and the sound from it was amazing too, he gave it to me for a few weeks and I loved playing it. Very very high quality instrument. edit - It some unique features, black humbucker covers and other things I can't remember there was just something different about it...
D’Addario auto trim locking tuners go on all but a few of my guitars. They’re fantastic. I put them on my 12 string acoustic. Best thing ever for a 12.
Which ones lol? There are some tiny micro stacks from the eighties that only take batteries... there were some that were maybe waist high that had two single eight inch speaker cabs with a little maybe 20w solid state "head" that was just a repacking of the combos that came with a lot of the awful starter packs that sold in sam goodies and the like in the y2k era and recently they have brought out 20w versions of tube heads that seem pretty interesting to me personally. But if it is just that look youre going for you have options. I am looking into all this because i am thinking about doing a cometely unneccessary ab/y setup for my bedroom rig. I dont play out anymore and have zero need for it but i ended up with two little practice amps and some random things that got me most the way there anyway. But yeah they are out there.
@@randa4382 Im talking about those MG15MSII stacks. 15 solid state head with dual 10'' cabs (aka two one by ten cabs) with either and MG or a lead 12 on them. There were many made, but they just stopped making them around I believe the 2005. The Lead 12 comes from the 80s and the MG's are from the early 2000s. There are like Zakk Wylde signature and even Dave Mustaine signature mini stacks made. They look so cool, an litteral mini marshall stack and you can also plug the head into a 4x12 if you wanted too.
Bought one off an old band mate of mine back in 2016 for $50 and a pedal, best trade I’ve ever done. It’s the arkane 200 I believe. Still my favorite guitar I own.
The first guitar I ever got for myself was a Lâg Arkane 66, a combo pack, wasn't the best thing ever but I played a lot out of it and have fond memories of it If you don't know, the cross you see on the back of the tuners or on the 12th fret on some models is the cross of Occitania (which is a region in France where I'm from) because it originally started in southern France, such a shame they stopped electrics, I went back to see their catalogs and they really went wild, even offering a roads model amongst other super weirds shapes (that do look cool tho) a real shame really they really felt like they meant business
one of my favorite guitarists Manni Schmidt who was the guitarist for rage (german) back in the late 80s early 90s and he used exclusively lag guitars specifically the rockline series and i think that lag guitars are some the best sounding guitars
So, I live in the state of Pennsylvania in The USA. My State is 40% bigger than Ireland and has more people, (probably the same amount of cattle) hearing you say the closest to a chain store being 2 in Ireland was funny and it made me have to look up just how small Ireland really is. Smaller than I thought 😅 Wish PA had a chain, but we do have Guitar Center, even if they kinda suck😅
Another LAG artist was Mr. Manni Schmidt of RAGE/Grave Digger fame...he had a trick-looking strat back in the early 90s with RAGE...always been curious about them but never found one that wasn't prohibitively expensive....
I'll stay with the high end Epiphones models Custom Modern figured prophecy and Crestwood Models..I also like the MIA and MIM Fenders..I want buy or play anything else..
I own one. It's reliced around the pick guard because of scratching as you mentioned the paint comes off easily, and it has a dent near the bottom because it fell once. Besides that, it's held up nicely. It's not a bad guitar, I really like that it has a simple non floyd rose tremolo system, and 24 frets which funnily is not an easily found combination of specs at a reasonable price. It's usually 24frets+floyd or 22frets+non-floyd. Nowadays Charvels have 24frets+non-floyd but they cost ~1k euros/USD. Jacksons also have an affordable 24frets+non-floyd but the headstock of Jackson pretty much make tuning stability a nightmare with the tremolo system. The main beef I have with this guitar for me is personal preference of ergonomics. I prefer 7.25" radius necks, I don't like having a volume knob so close to the strings like a strat, and generally this guitar feels very flat and I always have the feeling my pick will poke the pickups as I dig into the strings - though increasing the action might help mitigate this feeling I have. Nice guitar overall, I gotta say when I play it every now and then I have fun, but I prefer my modded Strat HSS with 7.25" radius neck, volume knob moved away, custom electronics and simple tremolo system. What about the 24 frets ? Well I've grown out of it, I realize I never play that high, mostly because the strings are very tight up there, the tone of the notes there is weak, and it's generally unpleasant to play past the 22nd fret.
Ah yeah I love the Planet Waves tuners, I agree they should be a lot more common. They're cheaper than other locking tuners and have an extra function.
I actually love that body style, kinda reminds me of the Alex Hutching Waghorn AH6. I could also see someone playing metal on that type of guitar, it would look so sick in a satin black no pickguard version.
You introduced me to a brand I’d never heard of and now it’s too late. If they had been made in France then surely they would have been more familiar, I like everything about that guitar ssh, the upper & lower bout’s the headstock fretboard & finish.
I seem to recall LAG electrics getting a fair bit of advertising in the guitar magazines back in the mid to late 2000s (when I was actually buying such things) and I always thought the headstock design was pretty sweet. I don't think I ever saw them in a store here in Australia though. Shame they aren't making the electrics anymore though, this one sounded really nice.
about that ebony fretboard, it's an unstained fretboard, most "black" ebony is just stained ebony so it will look black, the best sought ebony boads are pure black, but since that's almost impossible, they just stain it. and honestly, pure black ebony looks like black plastic, it's so expensive or have a stained treatment, but the one you show is beautiful unstained.
I always liked the look of these when I was working in Dublin in 2007. Never tried one which I should have done. Always thought they looked better than Fender Strat.
Those Wilkinson Tremolos like on this guitar are supposed to be really good. Some people are putting them on their Beretta Specials with good results. I’m from the time when you just didn’t touch a vintage style tremolo if you wanted to stay in tune. Pete Thorn has a Wilkinson Vintage style tremolo on some of his Shurs that is a prototype and actually uses a machine screw to lock the string at the saddle so it’s kinda a single locking vintage style tremolo. I love learning about these obscure brands that used under the radar quality components. That bridge pickup sounds incredible by the way. If anyone is looking for a decent vintage style trem to upgrade a lower end and even some mid tier guitars and don’t want to spend a lot seriously check out Wilkinson you can get a pretty nice trem with a full sized block for around 20-30 dollars. My uncle who helped me get started playing was high on Wilkinson hardware in the 90s . They aren’t Gotoh but pretty close in fact they have a variation of the bridge on the guitar in this video that is actually co branded Wilkinson Gotoh but it’s a bit more pricey but it’s a good looking two post vintage style tremolo.
My favorite as the Lag Arcane,Stephen Forte from Adagio I think he is with Ibanez now. I thought they were neat but couldn't find them anywhere to try them.
I used to have a Lag acoustic that I picked up for only $180 new. It was surprisingly nice...but unfortunately, I got rid of it to make room and I've never been able to find another one like it since.
My local guitar store had loads of Lag guitars years ago. I had never heard of them so I just thought they’re one of those no name brands and ignored them.
Hey, totally off topic, but, whatever happened to Fernandez? Can you do an episode on the fate of Fernandez? I have a 2001 Japanese market only shredder Jagmaster Fernandez JG40 that I love in orange named Osaka and would love to know what happened to them. Were they owned by Ibanez or made in the same factories?
I own two LAG guitars; two Roxane. LAG was purchased and the Michel LAG is no longer involved with the company he created, unfortunately. The LAG workshop has closed down, all the workers were released, the machinery sold. When I was living in France, Lag and Vigier were the main French guitar makers. I own a Roxane th-cam.com/video/jmrKgPdSCBw/w-d-xo.html I also own one with P90. Those were from the original workshop. Fantastic guitars!
So lame that ALGAM (owners of the "Lâg" brand since 2002) relocated the last factory in China in 2016. Michel Lâg-Chavarria was indeed quite upset. Those recent "Arkane" and "Imperator" are made in China. As fas as I know, they no longer make guitars in France, they seem to have warehouses, designers etc. in Thouare-Sur-Loire (near Nantes, in the west of France). Before that, the former factory was in Bédarieux (Occitania), south of France. The chinese Lâgs are not all bad instruments, I could try a few acoustics, they are quite good value for the money. But the recent solid bodies cannot compare to the previous ones. They are entry level guitars, nothing wrong with that, but we miss the "Rockline", "Roxanne", "Beast" series. The last serie, "Roxanne Racing", were very nice double-cut blues/rock machines, the RR-1500 used to cost less than 1400€, worth every cent.
I'm very much a traditionalist when it comes to body shapes and this body shape doesn't bother me at all. Too bad the pickguard wasn't made of of aluminum, I assumed it was some type of metal until you specifically called it out. Fantastic buy for 200 €.
I would have that body shape the name: Strat Paul. It’s definitely a mix of the two. The headstock for this guitar is also really cool. Also, Can someone please tell me what the players circle is?
So, just to be clear, this is one of the Chinese made ones? Also, could you do a video about Cort? They famously closed their Korean factory to move to Indonesia, but no real word about how employees are treated there? Be interesting to find out.
Had a look around eBay, Arsebook etc. Seems there's a handful of the 3 single coil version, guessing that's a cheaper model? One os going as low as £45 and for that it doesn't' matter if the electronics are shite because you'd just replace them and still end up with something that sounds killer for fuck all money. Gonna look around every now and then for this version because I think I shall have to pick one up ;D

I swear I got a comment the other day saying I should make a video about Lâg guitars and I thought nah that's more of a KDH video

That LAG headstock, to me, is the coolest one made.
Was gonna say the same thing lol !! That Headstock is really cool looking .

Ritchie Kotzen signed with this brand a couple of years ago... Circa 2007-10 I think.

My 14 year old grandson wears a sweatshirt I bought at one of the Voodoo Lounge Tour shows in Edmonton Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦. 👍
My favorite as the Lag Arcane,Stephen Forte from Adagio I think he is with Ibanez now. I thought they were neat but couldn't find them anywhere to try them.
I remember that Chris George guy using Lag guitars in some of the Marshall demo videos.
YES
Finally, some love for my all time favorite "superstrat" (doublecut les paul? PReSque? I don't know)
One problem is that, thanks to this video there'll be even less of these guitars on used market
I used to have a Lag acoustic that I picked up for only $180 new. It was surprisingly nice...but unfortunately, I got rid of it to make room and I've never been able to find another one like it since.
To be blunt, I'm going to go buy one now off of Reverb, thank you KDH once again for introducing me to amazing guitars
❤️
(Please use the link in the description. It helps)
My local guitar store had loads of Lag guitars years ago. I had never heard of them so I just thought they’re one of those no name brands and ignored them.
Weird, I just picked up my Lag - for the first time in weeks - and this video popped up!
I used to have 2 LAG guitars. They were both relatively light weight. A double cut and a Arkane A200 I think. Didn't like the necks!
Excellent video.
the body shape reminds me of the Ibanez Roadstars from the 90s. I built a parts guitar with one of those bodies.
I installed auto cutter tuners on my Jackson and it makes everything easier.(except when I put it on wrong and cut the strings wrong wasting a string)
W.A.L.K.E.R. US tour when?
a bummer. living stateside, I desperately wish I could get my hands on an Arkane model, but they're so hard to acquire.
I like your workbench. Mine is a picnic table i stole from a high school.
It's the only guitar I sent straight straight back. It may not have been this exact model. It sounded so thin.
I love restring Sunday
Sperzel was the second company with TrimLoks, not Schaller :)
I own a Roxane th-cam.com/video/jmrKgPdSCBw/w-d-xo.html
I also own one with P90. Those were from the original workshop. Fantastic guitars!
+150 points for playing an Accept riff 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Those tuners are awesome! I want to put some on my strat
I would really like one of these with just a clear coat on an ash body serious peavey t-60 vibes.
I'm very much a traditionalist when it comes to body shapes and this body shape doesn't bother me at all. Too bad the pickguard wasn't made of of aluminum, I assumed it was some type of metal until you specifically called it out. Fantastic buy for 200 €.
ACCEPT.....Hell yeah🤘
I will not be suprised if the prices on these shoot up high now that they’ve been mentioned
I play Black Metal on a yellow Mustang, what are you on about?
Balls to the wall
YT channel "Ristridi" had a couple of really nice Lag electrics, only person I've ever seen use them.
Nice sweater dude
I forgot Lag made electric guitars lol. I barely see them in Japan though.
This guitar seems badass!
I would have that body shape the name: Strat Paul. It’s definitely a mix of the two. The headstock for this guitar is also really cool.
Also, Can someone please tell me what the players circle is?
I made my cabinets out of Canadian hard rock maple. It's super hard and super white
So, just to be clear, this is one of the Chinese made ones?
Also, could you do a video about Cort? They famously closed their Korean factory to move to Indonesia, but no real word about how employees are treated there? Be interesting to find out.
My pal bought an Arcane for £250. When he got it home and did his research he could hardly believe the price these sold for originally.
Solid brand
Had a look around eBay, Arsebook etc. Seems there's a handful of the 3 single coil version, guessing that's a cheaper model? One os going as low as £45 and for that it doesn't' matter if the electronics are shite because you'd just replace them and still end up with something that sounds killer for fuck all money. Gonna look around every now and then for this version because I think I shall have to pick one up ;D
